Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Kotori wiggled the datapad she was perusing as she turned her eyes to Nyton. "I've been following a proposal to change the laws of the Empire and I'm not sure I actually see the points of the laws they're trying to adjust and why they are arguing so keenly over them."

She set the datapad down and leaned back in her chair. "I've studied the laws of the Empire and never found anything which struck me as feeling wrong. Most of the problems Yamatai has seem more related to the way it and its military is being lead than the laws that were enforced."

The amber-eyed nekovalkyrja half-closed her eyes as she fingered a lock of hair in front of her furry cat-like ear and then had her fingers slowly trail down in a slow caress. "I look at the way the discussion over the laws are going and most of what I get of it is meaningless gibberish being argued back and forth, Kage-Shosa being thrown a bone for being allowed by the Empress to propose a lot of influencial changes all at once, and this Princess Taisho Shimizu coming back from the dead and trying very hard to look important."

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Nyton maintained a cool composure as he picked up the datapad and scanned over it. The laws were definately being tweaked a little but it was not so much what was being done as rather who was doing it. He filed it under a lesser concern but did not dismiss it seeing as Kotori was paying it attention. "Very odd. It would seem some figures are vying for significance." he said casually while laying the datapad back down. "Would you like me to retrieve something for you to eat, Kotori-sama?"

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Kotori looked up to Nyton, considering as she pushed back some of her black hair behind her right ear. "Has anything been done this morning for breakfast?" She asked curiously. With her early rising time and how busy the two people whom wanted to cook ended up being, she was wondering if anyone had actually gotten the job done.

"Oh." She recalled something. "I think the Pelican's crew added helped fill our larder a little with some pre-made meals. Mara made a joke about every neko going after the sushi - is there any in the fridge?" Maybe it was the mood of her Executive Officer whom was making Kotori more inclined to just eat on the go instead of settle for a real breakfast.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Sumaru soon arrived in his Midnight Blue uniform he had previously worn during his days before becoming a Samurai. The jacket was a little tight on his more bulked up Nekovalkyrja frame, but it was still a comfortable fit despite the change. "It feels like it has been ages since I've worn this..." He commented to Sora as he fidgeted with his appearance, making sure his face veiling bang was properly in place and went about affixing his Santô Juni rank pin to it's proper position.

Though the Samurai was without his robes, both of his swords were still at his side. He had made a decision about that, and was prepared for the results ahead. After all, even if he was a servant to the clan. It was Sora who he was assigned to, if he was to lay down his blades he'd accept the orders of no one else but her or the Empress.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

"As you wish." Nyton replied, trying not to chuckle at the sushi connotation. It was an old Nepleslian tradition that cats loved fish. He picked up his used dishes and headed back towards the kitchen area. Scouting around with the added benefit of his eyes he tried to locate some pre-packaged sushi.

In the fridge Nyton soon located some wrapped sushi packs that contained ten pieces of a single type inside. With a quick glance he pulled out one that had a tuna roll and another with salmon. They were fairly simple, a piece of sliced fish wrapped up in rice and seaweed. Grabbing some chopsticks and soy sauce packets, he laid them on top of the packs to transport.

Nyton soon returned to the wardroom and delivered the food to Kotori, placing it next to the datapads. "It is nothing fancy but breakfast is served." he said while laying the chop sticks and soy sauce down next to the packets before unstacking them.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Kotori looked up to give Nyton a grateful smile. Sumaru's arrival and his bearing swords - swords she had told him to leave in his quarters - killed her smile just as it was born. The Taisa hung her head a moment to hide the flare of anger in her eyes and fisted her hands.

Sumaru disobeyed me, she struggled not to bare her teeth in a snarl. Just when Kôsuka was appealing to me to relent in his case, he had the gall to disobey me. Her first impulse was punishing him for displaying the same sort of arrogance and defiance she had seen in Chisou, but there weren't many ways to punish a Ketsurui Samurai short of maiming or death.

Memories of the draconian punishments she had seen Rufus Sydney administer onboard the Sakura or how Yui had beheaded Chisou for her lack of courtesy came to mind and helped cool the flashfire of wrath in her chest. She did not actually want any of that to happen to Sumaru.

Still wondering what she should do about it, because she certainly couldn't just let it slide, she rose from her seat. "Hagesawa-Juni, please come along with me," she bade him as she walked toward the observation deck.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Tom crossed his arms, waiting for the briefing to begin. He tilted his head in the direction of Nyton and Kotori while they were having a small chat and winced at the captain's remark about the lack of a proper breakfast.

He made a motion to get up but Nyton was already getting something for Kotori to eat. Dejected for the moment, he slouched back in his chair.

The entrance of Sumaru caught his attention, mostly because of the fact that swords hung at the Neko's side. The engineer hadn't the opportunity to formally meet the samurai. Tom thought for a moment about the practicality of using a sword where they were going. His almost instantaneous conclusion was nil, considering the likely opponents they would face on Bowhordia's surface.

Oh well. Better for Nyton to deal with ground tactics.

Then Kotori bade the samurai to follow her. Obviously she had beaten Nyton to the punch.

Still, this gave the engineer a moment to save face and actually do his job as a cook. He rose from his seat.

"My apologies. Would anyone enjoy something specific for breakfast? I can whip most things up pretty fast."

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Miyoko cursed under her breath as it proved impossible to rouse Sanjuro. She'd deal with him soon enough--and now she was even less inclined to do this cordially. She hurried back to her room, abandoning the datapad and its tempting files on her desk and then rushing to change into her uniform. The Yamataian proudly affixed her new rank pin to it and then rushed out to the wardroom.

... but, Kotori was leaving and it looked like half the crew wasn't even here yet. It seemed she'd been a bit too worried about getting here on time. Oh well. In the worst turn of events, she was getting first stabs at the breakfast and could mock Sanjuro if his stolid refusal to wake up made him oversleep. She took a seat, stretching. "Mnh. Morning."

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Yoroko gazed at Yuzuki, "Well, I'm waiting on the results of a program meant to track hostiles inside of our ship, but Miharu mentioned that it could be hacked pretty easily. I'm wondering if maybe the sensors you mentioned might work better." Yoroko grimaced as she recalled her dreams the previous night.

They involved Sanjuro talking about how pointless her attempt to track the enemy was, and her spending a large amount of time arguing with him while he pointed out the flaws in each idea. Finally she gave up, and just as she turned to leave, there the Heisho was in front of her again, with her gift to him, instructing her to take it back and use it. The rest of the dream was spent running down the endless halls of the Miharu with Sanjuro's voice yelling 'Mizuno-Hei, you must take it back.'.

"Maybe something good did come of that..." Yoroko muttered. Honestly Yoroko felt guilty for having argued with Sanjuro so much, it was unlike her to be so confrontational, but she absolutely could not take the gift back.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Yukari was not considering the events around her. She was absorbed in what her future duties would be, once the fighting started.

Nyton would handle weapons and tactics; she would execute them. Kotori would be shouting orders to her; she would relay them. Masako and the other infantry would do the ground work; she was not involved.

She wished she had more to think about. Her mind briefly tacked onto maneuvers she could perform while flying the vessel ... but many relied on her being in control, without Nyton asking for firing solutions and such. They would not be helpful; she had to work with Nyton, for working against him resulted in the mission's failure.

I am a vital piece of the war machine, she thought, her head low. I must do my duties, whatever they may be. If I fail, I doom us all. No one can fail before our most deadly enemy.

She did not have much hunger in her. There was still a little time to eat nutrition bars, later.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Nyton looked over and saw the delicate issue of the swords being worn and almost smacked his face with his palm. Instead he rather let out a slight sigh and watched as Kotori left. He crossed his arms and looked at Sumaru with no visible sign or emotion. Mentally though he only wondered at what could be done. There was a battle ahead of them and time was not with them to have to deal with issues such as these.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

"It's fairly low-tech, but if you set it up seperately and used the radar as a control, it might work," started Yuzuki, who had politely as possible taken another drink of her coffee, even though most of it was already gone, and what was left was a little cold. She had, in fact, managed to scrounge food and coffee up on her own and had mostly finished what she had turned up. There hadn't been regular meals while most of the crew had been away. Why wait to eat?

She would have continued talking through telepathy, if she hadn't caught Yoroko's last phrase.

"Pardon?" she asked, "Of course good comes of it. You should stick to your ideas. They are not so bad."

Yuzuki suddenly tapped her boot on the floor.

"Hemosynth material is also carried throughtout the ship, like blood. Could you not track them by their weight, if the machines in the air can be hacked?"

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Sumaru's single exposed sharp frost blue eye locked with Kotori on his entrance, he was expecting this and had spent his morning preparing for what was at hand. He only nodded once as she gestured for him to follow and placed a hand on Sora's shoulder before leaving. "I must deal with this now, if you'd excuse me." Then with that, he turned and started up towards the observation deck his hands in front of him were folded into another as he took one deep breath to clear his mind of all thoughts but the matter at hand.

"You wish to speak with me, Hime-Sama?" The young samurai asked as he paused his steps once he anticipated her stop in lead. He used her title instead of her rank, this was on purpose, so that she'd know what posture he had on this conversation. If it was a Taisa whom was ordering him to remove his swords, he'd be forced to decline such a request... but the matter ahead was with a Princess of the Clan of which he served, and thus he'd address it as such.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

By the time Kotori had climbed the few steps leading into the observation deck, she was a little better prepared to face Sumaru.

Kotori had been thinking about a dozen confrontational arguments to try to explain her worries, the reasons why she disapproved of Sumaru and what she hoped he could eventually achieve... but most of her ideas seemed fruitless, as she felt he had made his mind on the stance he would take and his bearing swords was pretty clear on that. Secondly, she was growing somewhat unsure that her arguments would really hold up to scrutinery. It wasn't her intent to be hypocritical, but she was close enough to the issue to be ambivalent and biased about it.

It was funny how comparing herself to Rufus Sydney was helping her keep a better perspective on things; she was stooping to micromanaging and being difficult on little details when she actually had bigger fishes to catch. With a hissing breath, she came to the conclusion that she did not actually need to deal with this. I've put Hagesawa-Juni under charge of Kôsuka. Kôsuka is my mother and a samurai instructor - if there is something truly wrong with him, she'll notice and deal with him eventually.

Now came to what she actually had to tell Sumaru. A moment's reflection later, she decided that she did not actually owe him any explanation and that she ought to just have him (and herself) move on.

She turned her amber eyes on him. "The uniform you wear no longer suits you. You have my leave to return to your quarters and change into something more appropriate for a person of your station," she simply told him.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Masako, looking a little bleary-eyed but otherwise alert, took her seat at the table near Nyton and Yukari. She seemed absorbed in her own thoughts.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Realizing that Yoroko had cut him out of the conversation, Kai suddenly remembered that he was hungry. When Tom rose and asked about food, Kai jumped at the opportunity. "Ah, Yes, I would enjoy some french toast and a glass of orange juice, if that could be done, Freeman-Juni" The Yamataian asked in a polite tone of voice, hiding the hint of annoyance from being cut off by the girls.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Yoroko shrugged to Yuzuki, completely unaware of her social gaffe toward Kai, she remembered suggesting that in her dream. She also remembered Sanjuro's seemingly impeccable knowledge of power armor and stealth operation when she presented it in her dream last night, and how effortlessly he defeated it. "It could work, but if they enemy is using their gravity control they could just float." Yoroko wasn't really sure how else to do this. The enemy could move undetected with the right kinds of armor, and they didn't need to touch the floor.

We need a mist of something that will show on dopplar radar. But it take huge quantities of it to work. Yoroko sat idly for a second before suggesting something to Yuzuki. "Back in Fort Ready we used training rounds in power armor training, what if we fired a paint round that had peculiar qualities to it? Like a specific radioactive isotope or something with an odd magnetic field." Yoroko suggested off handedly.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Sora stretched as Sumaru left her to speak with Kotori. She was a little concerned but she hoped that the two of them would work things out without too much difficulty. She settled into a chair at the table and smoothed down the front of her new teal paneled uniform, uncertain of how she felt about the color change and how she felt about the suddenly reduced length of her hair, surely both changes would be good for her?

She looked towards the door that Sumaru had followed Kotori out of for a few moments before she looked back around the wardroom... people were still trickling in. She noticed Sanjuro's absence and wondered if the man had stayed in the medical bay all night.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Nyton had been absently tracking crew member's arrival, mostly by his other eyes. With all that was going on between Kotori and Sumaru he had failed to note sooner that his software had issued a low priority notice. Bringing it up to analyze Nyton finally took note that Sora had cut her hair off. Earlier comparisons from the night before verified that she had shortened her hair by a drastic amount.

Now why would she go and do that? Nyton thought to himself as the possibilities lined up and rationalized. It was not very urgent but he was not one to let minor details like that one go by without any regard. For now though he kept glancing out towards the observation deck to see what may have occurred.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Quietly and unannounced, Sanjuro made his way into the room while the others went about working at their breakfast. He was fully dressed in his uniform, still the very image of pristine conditioning...but his face, especially his eyes, showed signs of weariness. Despite this, Sanjuro went about sitting at his seat and, naturally, went straight to his datapad.
