Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Nyton bore witness to the incredible speed that was used to catch the wayward piece of salmon. He managed to keep his composure but the shock at the action was noticeable in his eyebrows. Kotori really really likes her salmon, he thought. While the software in his targeting system had managed to track the motions and the speed, there had been no time to react. "Nice catch, Kotori-sama." he said, obviously impressed.

The intensity of the spicy food was suddenly catching Nyton's interest though. Just how spicy could it be? "Freeman-Juni, perhaps I will try out this dish as well." he proposed. Walking over to the 'pot of death' he looked inside to analyze the pot's contents. His eyes substance analyzers listed the food's ingredients for him along with the special peppers Sanjuro had proposed for use. With a slight bit of dread he then served up a little bisque into one of the bowls. In preparation for what was likely to happen he also poured himself a glass of water.

"Well, here goes." Nyton said to himself as he took a spoonful into his mouth. The pain was as intense as it was instant. With more than a bit of trained fortitude he forced himself to endure it without any flailing reactions, even while the sweat began to form across his forehead. Swallowing did little to help and it did indeed burn him all the way down as it travelled into his stomach.

"It is as you say, rather spicy. I doubt I can even taste this food, my tongue is rather numb now due to the heat." Nyton said with a slight grimace. Taking a drink of water and eating a bit of the scrambled eggs helped to quickly remove any lingering spice from his mouth. "I believe I shall have to pass until I have grown more accustomed to such. Trying to do such before a mission may have rather unfortunate consequences." he said while pushing away the bowl of bisque.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Sanjuro was not making this easy for Miyoko. After all... technically, if she used a crowbar to insert the datapad so far into his urethra that he'd be able to smell it, it would still be returned to him and she could retain her moral superiority and sate her irritation with him. She took it in hand and quickly pulled up the mailbox, the unopened messages prominently displayed, then held it up in his face and prayed that they were as important as she suspected they were.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Kotori answered to Nyton's praise with a discreet smile, heavy in self-satisfaction, and then her chopsticks went after the next bit of fish. Maybe we should put some of that bisque in our torpedoes for the extra spicy damage, she idly thought as Nyton succumbed to curiosity and then had a silent chuckle.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

As soon as the datapad was brought back towards his face, Sanjuro pushed it back down. Perhaps it was the mixture of the events last night and his current condition, but the doctor looked very annoyed by the events playing out before him. His tired eyes narrowed, Sanjuro sighed and spoke.

"Saito-Hei, I don't have time for this nonsense. Is there anything else you need me for? I have more important things I should be attending to after the briefing."

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Nyton took a napkin and wiped off the sweat from his brow. Taking another sip he then cleared his throat and shook his head before returning over to Kotori. "Perhaps we should begin the briefing soon, Kotori-sama." he suggested.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

At this point Sumaru returned dressed, once again, in proper uniform for a samurai. His hands were folded into the wide ended sleeves of his yukata, and even though he was still wary of the Taisa, the youth had a peaceful posture. With no words on the situation, he took the seat beside Sora and remained silent in quiet puzzlement of the recent events.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

"Heisho," Miyoko corrected Sanjuro, turning her rank pin toward him. "Saito-heisho." It felt good to correct him for a change. She quickly clipped the datapad back to her belt. "And that will be all. Forgive my momentary lapse in judgement." My momentary lapse of trying to treat you with respect, that is... By refusing the datapad not once, but twice, Sanjuro had sort of almost kind of given Miyoko tacit permission to do whatever she wanted with the information on it... and more importantly, she wouldn't feel any guilt about doing so.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

"As soon as everyone has settled down next to the table," Kotori replied to Nyton, nodding in agreement.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Tom smiled at the compiment to his food.

"Thanks! Next time, we'll avoid the spice, though."

He gave Yukari one last check to make sure she was ok, patting her on the back.

"I'm going to grab a bite to eat, ok?"

He quickly filled his plate with food, grabbing a bit of everything, and took his seat.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Sanjuro nodded, stone-faced. "It's fine, Saito-Heisho," Sanjuro corrected himself. "I understand that you make mistakes. But do not worry...I'm sure you will learn better judgment with your new position. Congratulations," the doctor said plainly before making his way back to the wardrobe.

When Sanjuro returned, he silently went straight back to his seat. The medical officer eyed the food across the table pensively for a moment before fixing himself a bowl of the bisque and a small helping of egg...although as soon as he tried the murky soup, the other part of his meal was largely forgotten. Sanjuro apparently had no problem at all stomaching his own deviously powerful peppers.

"Freeman-Juni," Sanjuro said. "I see you used those peppers...but perhaps next time you could add a bit more. It's still a little bland. But a definite improvement."

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Yukari could have broken a soup bowl on her head, shoved the shards into Sanjuro's eyes and throat, and have felt perfectly at ease with her moral obligations to the crew and her Taisa.

She sipped her water and ate eggs instead.

At that moment, the elder Samurai and her two charges came to the table and sat as well. Other than a glance at Sumaru, in his robes, she simply waited for things to begin.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

"As you wish. And should you be in the mood for more salmon then just ask." Nyton said before looking over at Kosuka and her apprentices. He stepped over to Kosuka and nodded to the three. "Good morning, Kosuka-san. I trust everyone slept well." he asked.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

With Sanjuro at the breakfast table, Miyoko wasn't going to sit down just yet. She needed a few minutes to cool off. Besides, now that she'd resolved to view the files, they were practically screaming for her to open them up then and there. The sensor specialist quickly made her way back to her quarters, flopped down on her bed, and instructed the datapad to play all of its messages.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Nyton's words made Kotori smile, and this time it stayed. She looked around at the crew assembled before her and stood up.

"Here I go, then," she turned off the datapad showing the newsfeed on the Empire's new laws being drafted. "Bowhordia lies before us. However, we have yet more things to do before heading in."

"Firstly, power armors. Daisy power armors will need to be setup for atmospheric combat," she began, her tone somber. "Most of your tech, medical and infantry personnel will be assigned to piloting them once our operation starts. All the M6s are going to be attached to Hoshi for a ground assault. I will detail more later."

"I will require five Mindy Mark Twos to be set up with a variant of the Death Blossom configuration, only with the barrier shield replaced by a teleportation module. The people whom will be piloting them will only indirectly assist in the ground operation - I will need them for a more important task."

"I need to have both our shuttles readied for launch. The T5 Cougar will need to have its beam weapons modified to work in a planet's atmosphere."

"Furthermore, both our fightercrafts should be prepared to give cover for the ground assault. Therefore, they'll need to be outfitted for planetary combat as well. I don't want anti-matter bombs or aether torpedoes exploding in our faces down there."

"I will need the main hull's torpedo launcher to be outfitted with a mix of anti-matter, transphasic and subspace detonator warheads. About a third of each. The leftovers will be needed stored on the main hull and not the auxiliary ship. I intend to use the surplus as mines, so, adjusting them for that will be needed."

"Those without ST backups done already should have it done before we get started so that data can be uploaded both in Hoshi's and Miharu's computer systems. Claymere-Taii and Suzuka-Shosa, would will have to touch base with the medical staff since I believe we are lacking manpower to perform as I need us to. Sprites will need to be created to fill our blanks."

"My intention is for Hoshi to separate and be escorted by our shuttles and fightercraft downplanet while Miharu engages hostiles in space. Claymere-Taii, I will be putting the Hoshi under your command and have you supervise the ground operation. I am only leaving bridge crew on Miharu, and that means only myself, Suzuka-Shosa and Saito-Heisho. You will be in command of the rest."

Kotori gave a little frown as she considered Nyton and added, "You'll have to give Saito-Heisho a crash course on the tactical console. That's where she'll operate."

The Taisa turned her eyes from Nyton to look over to Yukari, the Samurai, part of her senior staff and then the officers and enlisted crewmembers whom she would soon ask to risk their lives for her. "We have roughly eight hours before our ideal window of opportunity to head in Bowhordia opens up. All the preparations I've asked will need to be done and completed before then."

"Questions, ideas or comments before I go on to the actual briefing of our operation?" Kotori asked.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Tom had taken out his communications device and recorded all the requests Kotori had made regarding modifications and preparations of the equipment for the mission. It was a long list; he and his staff would have to work diligently to make sure that everything was tailored to the Taisa's orders.

Yuzuki seemed to carry an knack for and was inspired to work on the power armors. Tom quickly decided to assign that task to the sprite and sent the message to her communicator, detailing the exact specifics of the Taisa.

Yuzuki,

Take all the time you need within our deadline to make sure that the armors are in maximum working order and prepared for the task ahead of them. I'm sending to you the locations on Miharu where all the parts are kept.

Unfortunately, you more than likely have to do this task alone, as I will require the services of the others in engineering. However, if you run into any problems or have any inquiries regarding modifications, please contact me and I will assist in any way possible.

This is an essential task, and I have absolute trust in your abilities to get it done.

Make sure you get an ST backup if you haven't already.

-Freeman-Juni

Ichigo... Tom had a lot of uses for his second, and there was much to do. It was like keeping sand clenched in one's fist, except that not a single grain was permitted to escape.

Ichigo,

I'm assigning you to handle the shuttles and fighter crafts. Make sure you follow the specifics the Taisa has made. I'm sending you the list now. I'm not sure how long this will take you; if you free up before the allotted deadline, please assist Yuzuki in her outfitting of our power armors.

Please make sure you double check Yuzuki's work. It's her first big assignment and a valuable learning experience.

Remember: "Grace under pressure." Let's show our crew what we can do!

Make sure you get an ST backup if you haven't already.

Thank you and good luck.

-Freeman-Juni

The engineer nodded, mentally checking off those two items on the list. What remained was the modifications and outfitting of the launchers and weapons. He assigned that duty to himself.

He raised his hand from his seated position.

"Taisa," he said. "How much manpower are we considering with the combination of newly-created sprites and current crew members engaging in our operation?"

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Nyton listened and pondered on the basic layout that Kotori had just gone over. "This may be covered later but I was wondering if we could conduct scans of the planet's surface to pinpoint the location of the enemy base. If possible, we could avoid dealing with the majority of the automated defenses I read about in the Mikomi report by dropping our ground forces right on top of them."

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

"My current estimate is that we'll need four to eight more sprites, bringing our crew up to from thirty to thirty-four," Kotori answered Tom. "I'm leaving the exact number and specialization of the sprites to the people in charge of the medbay and Suzuka-Shosa. As for the ground operation, I'm not being shy about it. I'm throwing practically all the personnel we have at the base."

She turned a look to Nyton. "Black Spiral provided us with information to pinpoint the location of the base, so, we're not going blind as far as its location goes, though other details have been very sketchy - in that regard, the ground operation will be more dependent on the Daisy Cs than I would have liked, but there's no helping that. I'll cover the approach to the base in my coming instructions."

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

"Well, it beats running around the desert and getting shot apart in a drop zone without any leads at all. Although I do share with your skepticism in regards to Black Spiral intel." Nyton replied as he folded his hands together. "Why the dependancy on C models though? If we're coming in hard and heavy then stealth will not be a real factor. Should we need the sensor suites then we would only require a few in our ground forces."

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

The points of Kotori's ears dipped slightly as she looked at Nyton toughtfully. For a fleeting moment, she seemed troubled.

"From what I've learned, the installation is both a supply base and an combat drone factory hidden under a mountain range," she answered him. "The reason I'm relying mainly on the Daisy power armor is because I expect there might be an aether canceler there. In the same vein, if Hoshi's systems are going to be compromised in such a fashion, it's doubtful it will be able to give you sensor support for charting the underground complex. Therefore, the Daisy C's sensor suite will likely be one of your best assets there."

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

As he listened Nyton would then nod after Kotori was done explaining the reason for the value of the C model. "Point taken. Plus if they have any sort of jamming system then we would need the ability to defeat such to coordinate our squads better. Getting ourselves trapped inside a combat drone facility deep underground does not sound like a good prospect."
