Zeta kept her sisters close to her, while she had some trust for the Soldier who stayed with them in the Customs office. Now they were out here, and somewhere that Juni who hated them was to be found. "Just do as they say. Avoid talking to their leader and we should survive." she whispered to them.

Looking at the sight of the fallen Ripper, Zeta smiled, not an entirely pleasant smile. So the Masters minions can be beaten even by a handful of soldiers. She thought.

-------------------------------

Meanwhile Kim slaved the Yusou to her AIES, and climbed out. She sent it first at a tangent to give the appearance that is was trying to flee. The NMX tanks spotting it changed their course and began to close. She had the APC deploy a spread of its counter measures, smoke, chaff and laser reflecting dust exploded between the two. Kim had the Yusou train both of its turrets on the first tank the gatling weapons firing a stream of deadly projectiles followed up by four missiles.

--------------------------------

Meanwhile the HUDS of the Away Team were picking up three unidentified Mindy PA signatures. They were flagged as hostile, and were a couple of hundred meters from their position.

"We better move fast! We got three unidentified Mindys approaching, flagged as hostile on my HUD. They are only a couple of hundred meters away from us." Yoshiro said urgently. "I'll keep covering, you guys keep moving. I just hope that we have enough firepower that we can use against them. Do an ammo check as you move." He checked his weapons and ammo and saw that they had a few shots in the gauss rifle and two salvoes of missiles.

Kyoka took a position* with Yoshiro, making sure her beam rifle was still fully functional and her barrier module was prepped in case of emergency.

"Alright, we have defender's advantage. Let's take potshots at them as they come close, and draw them away from the civilians. That. . . that sounds good, right?" The Neko half-heartedly commanded, doubting her own judgement. Sure, it was a textbook manuver, but would it work?

*Layout?

"Are they heading towards us? If not, we should ignore them," Takamori interjected, stopping the civilians and prisoners at the entrance of the staircase Makoto had found.

His friend had descended downwards, keeping an eye out for NMX traps. It would be unwise to send anyone in before Makoto decided it was clear.

-----------

Makoto looked around and checked his NSDs' sensors. There didn't seem to be anything wrong but he needed to be sure. Lives depended on him making the right call.

The flagged NMX targets were currently not moving, but the system also identified a number of Peacekeeper armors in close proximity to the hostiles. A moment later two signals started moving towards the away team. They were probably part of the original group but interference in the maintenance tunnels probably kept them from appearing. They were closing rapidly on the half open entrance to the maintenance tunnel.

Saki felt like such an idiot right now. "Sorry Heisho, I am really stupid. I apologize for my outburst," she commed to APC driver and paid attention to Juni again. She must look like complete dumbass right now.

Those were not her only troubles of course. It did not took long for other troubles to show up. Three mindies and not all the far. She took defensive position behind one of the pillars. But something was not right. "Ma'am," she said, talking to Kyoka of course. "Those three are not moving towards us, but I am picking two other closing on our position. They are coming from that tunnel," she said and pointed and half-open doors.

She then boosted next to the door her beam saber ready. She stood good three meters away from the door so she would be out of friendly fire but so she could jump one of the mindies should her comrades not take them down rifles. "I am ready for ambush ma'am," she said and readies her rifle. Whether she would be shooting of chopping she was ready for a fight.

"Er, right. . ." Kyoka mumbled, blushing a bright red under her helmet. How could she have forgotten to check the radar? Stupid, stupid, stupid! The neko chastised herself internally, taking up a position next to the wall behind the door. If Saki wanted to be the first response, then so be it. It's not like anybody was really doing much under Kyoka's "leadership", anyways.

Makoto looked down the stairs and saw that it had collapsed. "Staircase is gone. We need to find somewhere else," he reported over the radio. He joined Takamori with the prisoners and the civilians.

"Anyone here know a route to get to the hangar, shuttle bay?" he asked them.

---------------------

Takamori kept watch with his eyes and ears. If the NMX were going to leave them alone, why stir them up? Sooner they were off this station, the better. But that was also assuming the Aeon was still around.

"Anyone got word from the taisa or the ship? Be a little stupid if we blast off only to run into an NMX blockade," he asked the squad.

Kim cycled into the concourse while the Yousou provided a diversion for the tanks. One of the tanks was damaged but still operational, Kim was not sure how long the APC would last, but she would see that it gave as good as it got.

-------------------

The two NMX soldiers burst out of the passage into the corridor. Looked for the most obvious targets and fired at the away team.

Yoshiro turned after hearing the shots that NMX fired at them and returned fire at the NMX soldiers that were trying to impede their progress. "Bakayaro! Try that again!" He shouted to NMX. He ran to cover and fired again and stayed in cover as he engaged the enemy.

The NMX targeted the obvious target as they moved forward looking for cover. Yoshiro had a stream of shots following inches in his wake.

"Get down!" Takamori yelled at the prisoners and civilians. He brought his aether saber rifle up, trying to figure out where the firing was coming from. Makoto joined him at the rear, plasma rifle held at the ready.

Moments earlier, they and the non-combatants had rounded the corner from the Central Concourse and were facing the damaged blast shutters. "Stay with them, I'll deal with this and we'll figure out where the shuttles are after," Makoto told Takamori.

Then his friend was off. Takamori deployed his drones once again to cover a perimeter around the prone civilians and prisoners.

-------------

Makoto rounded the corner and saw the two NMX. He lined them up in his Mindy's sights and fired two shots at each. It was kind of that guy Takamori nicknamed "Scarface-kun" to be the distraction. He'd have to thank the kid later.

Saki was breathing heavily. What she was just waiting to do was pretty stupid. How could she even thinkg of that? She hsould just sit behind a pillar and shoot from behidn a cover, but noooo. She had to try and play tough one.

She stood nexto to entrance and saw as enemy got out nad her allier fired few shots again her. "Going in!" Saki, said once her mater stopped firing. She did not want get hit by friendly fire. She then hit her boosters charging at nearest enemy with her saber in sword mode. She moved against her enemy ready to slash at her, aiming at upper part of her body. She would love to hit neck, but she would not maind hit her back or head either too.

Kyoka did the same as Saki, though she activated her Barrier module before going in for a slice. It was a serious tactical blunder to engage the enemy in close combat in most cases, but it seemed appropriate to back her comerade up in the fray.

Zeta and her sisters through themselves onto the civilians shielding them with their bodies.

The NMX soldiers were knocked backwards by the impacts of the shots, throwing their own volley wide. Their shots hit the interior walls and some of the overhead lights that came down with a crash.

The NMX were then impaled by the two saber charges propelled by the Mindy's flight. There was a brief screech as the sabers pierced the metal with its blazing blades. Followed a moment after by smoke as flesh was seared. The one Saki had run through had the blade stick out of the front of her armor which hung limply and started to be sliced further by the blade as the armor's weight dragged it downward.

Kyoka's was just as dead only in her case the blade protruded out its back.

Makoto looked around, not ready to relax. "Check that passageway. Might be more. Anyone got explosives?"

He scanned around again, plasma rifle still held up.

------------------------

"Clear?" Takamori asked, motioning for the prisoners and civilians to stay down.

"I've got explosives. Not much but some," he replied to Makoto's question, "Heisho, orders?"

Saki took out her blade. This was different. Shooting someone from afar was way easier then this. Here you felt the pressure, you felt it was your arm propelling theb alde into enemy and killing it. It was you stealing the life out of the body. Those were strange thoughts that came through Saki's mind. But then she shaked her head. THey were enemies of the empire and they should die. They deserve it! With that she raised her hand again and decapitated the body. "Better safe then sorry." She said and sighed.

She then moved to the maintenance entrance and aimed her rifle inside. She looked for anyone else, someone might have escaped their sensors after all.

Kim surveyed the scene before her. So far things appeared to be in hand.
'Arai-Hei, send a couple of NSD's down that passageway find out if there are anymore surprises coming our way. I want two people to start leading the survivors and the prisoners towards the area where the ship bays are. The rest of us will follow behind and along once we know there is nothing going to come along behind us." she said to the team.

"Roger that." Yoshiro said moving from cover. He walked to the civillians and started to lead them down toward the ship bays. "So how is everyong holding up?" He asked the civillians and Nekos that he was escorting. He was concerned about their welfare and wanted to be sure that noone was hurt.

Takamori watched Yoshiro begin talking to the civilians before turning his attention to other matters. "Heisho, either of you, should I prepare my explosives?" Takamori asked, remaining where he was.

He still had two packages left, each one more than enough to cause the tunnel to cave in.

------------------------

Makoto walked back towards the prisoners and civilians. His shots had been aimed properly yet once again, it eluded him. Inwardly, Makoto seethed angrily at himself. He had not signed up to be useless yet each time he tried to do something, that seemed to be the case.

Scarface-kun was starting to lead the civilians and prisoners away yet Saito was not following them. Makoto wondered why since Saito seemed to have been the one in charge of the non-combatants. He wondered if he ought to volunteer. It would depend if Saito stayed or went, Makoto decided. If his friend accompanied the non-combatants, he would stay. But if Saito stayed and no one else volunteered, Makoto would go.
