Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Again, Nyton saw the text scroll up to leave the window blank, and then...

Kotori said:
I have been here for as long as Miharu's computer was activated. Do you ask her why she helps you? She is me. I am her. The sprites are the closest to children I will ever have. The crew is the closest to a family I will ever see, barring the Sylvesters.

This is no less my home than it is yours, Nyton. Eve is no less my enemy than she is yours.

I wish to see you succeed.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"What you're going to do about your hair?" That brought on a large grin. Yuzuki grabbed on to Kai's hair, speculatively, tugging a little bit. She wasn't gentle, but it wouldn't hurt too much.

"Yea, it's getting long," she said, offhandedly, still smiling. "I could cut it for you, if you wanted, Heisho."

She released him and turned back to Nao, "Nao-san, please find the rest of the engineers after the S-T backups are completed, and tell them we're mustering in ten minutes belowdecks, in main control. Freeman-Juni wants to address us. I want the first section in Daisy armor, and the second section dressed out in environmental suits. We've got an hour to be ready for battle. You're section two, right?"

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Meanwhile in the medical lab Azuki was struggling between helping to perform ST procedures and preparing medical supplies for accepting casualties. To Ayumu though it was just another day in the infirmary.

"Mou, this is upsetting. How are we supposed to get things ready when we're already busy updating everyone's Soul Transfers?" Azuki complained.

"Just keep it up, Azuki-san. Nice and steady now because we'll be very busy after the battle has been going on for a while." Ayumu assured.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Nyton read the text and nodded slightly. "That is reassuring however you are not 'programmed' like the Miharu is. Are you the real persona behind her? Behind Mara and the sprites? You should know by now that I don't like to just go by face value."

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Kai bent over in mild surprise as the sprite reached up and pulled on his hair. "Gah! hey, be gentle, it hurts more the longer it is!" he complained, grabbing at her fingers and pulling them off as she offered to cut his hair. He thought for a moment after standing up straight again, allowing Yuzuki to address the other sprite, before responding " I kinda liked the ponytail look, though."

He waved at the other sprite, politely, before returning his attention to Yuzuki. "The line doesn't look as bad from here, it's probably not going to take much longer..." he mentioned.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

In the subdeck, Tom witnessed Ichigo briefly confer with Nimura before the latter walked his way.

"Freeman-Juni, with your permission I will now go join Kurohoshi-Juni's infantry personnel for this mission," Nimura asked, her voice so much like Ichigo and yet so lacking in life. "I believe I will be more useful there."

The volumetric window gave Nyton another text reply:

The MEGAMI might have something you'd call a split-personality and Mara's is the dominant one. I do not micro-manage: this is your ship to run, not mine. I try to assist when I see a need for the kind of assistance only I could bring.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"Yes Heisho!" Nao crisply replied. Outside, Nao appeared fresh and professional, but inside, she was starting to feel a hint of rage. 'I'm working, and he's getting a haircut right before the apocalypse hits?' For Nao, there wasn't much she could do but simply take it, and work even harder in hope of being noticed by someone, or anyone for that matter, before the end. 'At this rate, will I even make it back?' she asked herself. "Besides that, is there anything else?" Nao asked. She watched at their tender exchange with resentment bubbling under the surface. Nao nodded to Kai when he waved at her.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Tom nodded to Nimura.

"I agree. Good luck. Take care of everyone and yourself. I still owe you a meal."

With a grin he gave her a single wave and then walked to his position at the forefront of the subdeck. He would get his ST done shortly before the mission began. Right now, his mind turned with what he would say to his subordinates before the fateful battle began.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Yuzuki paused a moment, hesitating a few seconds before taking her hand out of Kai's grip. She glanced aside at him, briefly, a little bit of something sparking in the back of her mind, and then she dismissed it and looked back to Nao.

Nao was standing upright, and being crisp, and trying to look good, but Yuzuki saw in her something which she disliked, also.

"Nao-san," she said, quietly, her spirit flagging momentarily as she returned from her Kai-induced reverie to the real, present situation, "We're family. I've got a name; I'm not an officer, please don't treat me like one, OK?"

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Nimura wordlessly turned and left the subdeck. Ichigo started reaching out for her twin, but halted the motion midway and gave a sad sigh before turning away to attend to her duties.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Nyton read Kotori's reply and began to tap his fingers on the container. Listening to the hollow sound he closed his eyes. "Do you have fingernails?"

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

The statement caught Nao unguarded. "I-I'm sorry Yuzuki." The sprite simply didn't know what to say at that point, her ears reflecting her honesty. Yuzuki was right of course. What was she thinking? 'We're family. I have to, we, have to work hard, or some, even none of us will come back.' she thought. "I'll get back to work then, leave you two alone." She smiled.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Kyou had done a quick circuit, letting everyone she knew of in the armor team know the location and time of their meeting. Pausing to think, she checked with Miharu to make sure she hadn't missed anyone. When the answer was in the affirmative, she sighed and ran her hand through her hair. This is it then... Won't be too much longer before the fighting starts, and odds are I won't have much time to think at that point. I guess that's a good thing... I do tend to think about things too much. She sighed again, but got moving again, headed for the bay.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Kai smiled at Yuzuki's slight hesitation, Feeling a bit of warmth from those fingertips the likes of which he hadn't experienced in years. After a few seconds though, he, too, returned to the real world, and looked a little surprised at Yuzuki's gently harsh words to the other sprite. Kai had seen this 'Nao' around before, but hadn't really payed much attention to her, they had seemed to mutually ignore one another until this very moment, when Kai could feel that he might have been in the Sprite's way.

Whatever that hostility came from, he couldn't tell, but hoped that after the mission he could fix that. In any case, Yuzuki's words seemed to fix the other sprite, and Kai relaxed, not realizing he had become unrelaxed during that short moment.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Every time Miyoko talked to Sanjuro, she felt like he pushed her just to the point where she wanted to do horrible, horrible things to him... and yet, without fail, the next time she talked to him, he'd manage to push her a bit closer to that line without going over it. She was walking busily now to keep pace with him, and it probably looked slightly ridiculous to any third parties that the pair passed on their way down the hall. "After breaking into military-grade encryption and then spending days reading the contents for anything that could even marginally help us, I think one would be hard-pressed to say I've been relaxed recently," she replied, a bit of a bite to her own voice.

In her mind, at least, Sanjuro was learning about creative and highly illegal uses of a cheese grater as a torture device.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

"Ichigo-Heisho," Tom said, not unaware of the reaction of Ichigo. "I won't need you until the engineering briefing, so you have some time to attend to personal matters. The next 30 minutes is your own."

He turned his attention to the machinery behind him.

Yuzuki's smile returned, however briefly.

"Thank you. Don't start any projects - just dress out, and wait; Freeman-Juni is going to brief all of engineering soon. Then, we'll set battlestations and bring the other two generators online."

She reached out and touched Nao, putting a hand on her head, much like the Taisa had done for her.

"Just relax. We'll survive, if we can just do everything right."

After a few moments, she released Nao, wondering if her words and the contact had done for Nao what the Taisa's touch and reassurance had done for her. Still heavy with the consideration, she turned back to Kai.

"I want to cut it, after we back-up. It won't take long, if you just want it cut a little, and tied back."

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Masako's ears twisted back slightly as a perturbed expression crossed her face. "Just go to the Armor Bay and behave while I go get my Soul Transfer done," the Warrant Officer said as she slid past the taller man.

"You can at least do that, can't you?" she asked her rhetorical question before jogging towards the Medical Bay.

Re: Mission 5: Amaya's Gate

Nyton chuckled a bit. "I don't suppose you may know the reason why Kotori... the Signaler version I mean, pointed out her lack of fingernails?" he asked.

Kotori said:
Even if I knew, I would not tell.

If she wants to be cryptic, it's probably because she wants you to realize something on your own, at an opportune time.

Ichigo turned, giving Tom a wide-eyed look, and then just sighed.

"Nimura is not like that, Juni." She said, sounding crestfallen. "I'm worried for her. She is not, for either of us. She wouldn't care if I followed to be with her, and would probably think I'm in the way and not being efficient."

The Heisho pressed her lips together grimly. "If you would permit, I would rather keep working here, with you. I don't want my last memory of Nimura to be one where I trailed her like a lost puppy and that she ended up finding me annoying."
