OOC [OOC] - ISC Phoenix II Chatter

SHAYLA SMASH!

After providing necessary emergency medical care, of course.

P.S. I like headbutts.

Rebeka is catching onto these things. Poor Seiren will be out of a job as her interpreter at this rate!

Note to 'self': Nakedness in a hotel room no matter how lofty or mundane leads to poor first impressions. The two just don't gel well.

I've updated the history for the ISC Phoenix Volume II for this month's Plot Audit to the most current events.

Please update your biographies accordingly with events that've happened to your characters on the plot, it'll really help things out and help keep a track on things. If I didn't the plot might get a mind of its own and escape from under me!

I've taken a look through the survey results and I've realised that I've dropped the ball and lost the interest and involvement of some of you. This was not my intended goal with the ISC Phoenix II and somewhere down the line I've gone off the rails.

Unfortunately I think the plot slipped out from under me a long time ago and all I've got are the threads, thinking that I had a grip the whole time.

I think the problem was that I tried too hard on writing Intrigue that was difficult to keep a track of since it relied on a lot of NPC interactions, hence why players got lost. When players got lost, I had to move things along with NPCs doing the busywork. When that started happening, there was less player involvement still but I was counting on how I was writing to get players back in again. This vicious cycle has kept going until now.

Obviously this is far from ideal, so I will pose the following question:

Should we abort the current Arc, and start fresh?
At the moment, we are in a good position to call the mission off with the justification that SAINT and the IPG (now united under DATASS) will 'take over the investigation' and let Luca get his body transfer in peace so we can move to a different mission.

It makes sense in-character, and Yamatai probably wouldn't want us sticking around after destroying a cafe (we're totes innocent!), eating cup coasters (Rebeka!), landing a shuttle in the Penthouse tennis court (Enzo!), handling tobacco grenades (Seiren!) or making Nekovalkyrja jam (goddamn it Luca!).

I'm thinking I go back to basics. Good old fashioned, straight up action with no strings attached. I'm open for suggestions or ideas.

Vote YES or NO.

Thank you for being involved enough to tell me where I've gone wrong,
-Luca!

Edit:
Don't forget that we have an IRC Channel too: #ISCPhoenixII on irc://irc.sorcery.net. You are likely to find me there.

I didn't want to be the first one complaining, since I'm the newest, but I also didn't want to leave you all day without any response. I am not really sure what the current arc/mission is, so I do not know if it needs to be completely abandoned or just altered. I'm not sure what you're investigating here.

I think taking another post or so and wrapping up this mission and completely changing gears is a great idea, though. There is a lot of baggage being hauled around right now. Something simpler and easier to understand, more straight-forward, would really help. Less NPCs involved that are not directly interacting with the PCs in ways that hold the attention of the PCs and the players. Intrigue can work as well, as long as it's intriguing for the players (and at least a bit for the characters).

Personally I would like to see something where the eight PCs are sent out on a task, and all of the NPCs (Luca, Allison, etc.) are left back on the ship/at the base as support. And probably send back (or just keep there in the first place) any of the PCs that aren't posting.

I'm tempted to vote YES. I do like the personality the NPCs have, but I feel they are doing all the heavy lifting in this arc. And I'm sure Makari would love to be out of Neko space ASAP too. All in all, I do find Mission 2 less entertaining than Mission 1 or the Interlude. But that may just be because Makari doesn't have all the guns he normally does. *shrug* Whatever you go with will be fine with me. As always, I'm here for the ride and the entertainment.

I've made the finer points of my thoughts clear personally to Luca, but just so everybody has my opinion for reference: I am fully for moving forward into another mission.

I have put up a new thread for socialising, and to segue into the next mission soon. You're free to do as you please in the pleasant Yamatai evening, which is currently 22 degrees Celsius out, a half moon out and a reasonably clear sky out. Since it's a Friday evening in Yamatai, the stores and bars are open until late if we feel like heading out.

Room service is on call.

Thankfully the music still lines up. The Who always works well with anything.

So!
I'm ready to do a Second Round of Side Jobs! Where? On the Crimson Kestrel in Space on the way back to Nepleslia Prime.

What are Side Jobs? Side Jobs are mini-posts that happen between only two or three players, or even solo, that happen at no particular time or interval during their stint on the ISC Phoenix II. This represents inconsequential or humorous (or even saucy, should you swing in any particular direction!) things that still happen, represented by short JPs of up to 50 to 150 lines on a TitanPad/PiratePad/EtherPad.

What is their purpose? Beats me, but it sure is fun to take a load off, play something together, trial some stuff and get to know each other - because the trip back home will take a while, and there's time to burn and some new faces coming in soon.

Be sure to post ideas to each other here, and we'll see if we can get some things going, flesh out our characters, give them some more place here on the Phoenix. And remember: To be in some, you gotta participate! Get talking!

I've noticed a lot of players tend to idle half-roleplay on the IRC, doing little fun skits but they never end up actually going anywhere or being saved.

Little one-shot interactions between characters -- either waiting for stuff to happen or just to squeeze in extra roleplay when the plot either moves too slowly, too quickly or the idle roleplay isn't set in the same moment as the plot (and thus would interrupt the narrative).

Leave it to Luca to find a place for those little moments to live, huh?

*Raises Hand*

I like this, and would enjoy partaking on a 'side job', whatever that may be. If anyone wants to poke the mysterious Gartagen, let me know.

Note: Seiren is available for any Side Job that requires his inventing talents to provide cool new shit for your characters. As evidenced by the whiskey Porta-still in possession of one Enzo.

Shayla could probably use a little help getting settled in on board. And figuring out exactly what you guys do. General fitting in and catching up stuff. She could also help with whatever is going on with Luca's new body, or any other medical needs the crew might have, if there's something ongoing she might need to know about.

Tani, echelon movie night... With popped corn, bon bons, and nail polish... and depending on which body she is in... Spray paint...

I just added a happenings box at luca's request. See thread for more information, but basically it's for all those lovely little ideas that don't quite warrant their own thread.

Having Enzo skank it up reminds me of how glad I am to be writing in a setting where a greasy guy who smells like booze and cheap cologne can come up to you and say, "Hey baby, how about a ride in my spaceship?"

And it be a serious offer.
