Osaka's doodling

Re: Osaka's nonsense

Modo confuses the fizz out of me.
I WILL PERSEVERE!

Until then: Following a tutorial from a magazine on scifi style lighting:

Why do we have a size-limit on 600 pixels wide, anyway?

Big images only go in art threads.

I've been asked a few times "how does a person fit into that?".

It's worth noting that the hips also bend at the base where they connect to the spine, to follow the legs of the wearer.

Re: Osaka's nonsense

Took a shot at Fly's Pod.

Re: Osaka's nonsense

A departure from the usual look - tried to start over, going for a look far closer to what I originally wanted with the 101.

MK II

The original.

Re: Osaka's nonsense

Not perfect obviously but I wanted to see how it would look with a lick of paint, even if it is a 5 minute job.

It pleases me but there's a lot of refinement still to be done with it, particularly detailing on the legs - but there's the problem of where the visual attention lies. :\

Re: Osaka's nonsense

Yeah. Blotting in some color does the world of good but my style is to sketch stuff in and make scribbles, studying from photographs and books.

A favorite as of late is George Brigman's Constructive Anatomy, which was a big big help on the arms and upper-body.

You said something about the pilot likely being crushed in an earlier sketch (one of the four links above, I think).

Could you elaborate a little so I can sort this out?

I'm planning on doing a perspective view with the cockpit opened and someone inside soon.

Re: Osaka's nonsense

My take on Miles.
And some loli - Possibly Lillius.

XD

Re: Osaka's nonsense

The new more casual Miles is accepted and welcomed by the Tomoe. He shall have much fanfare.

Re: Osaka's nonsense

Someone asked what the thing on the back of her head was.

Had to thin her hair a little to depict it properly - a sort of mind control/calming thing that stops her getting vicious.

I figure it works by telling Lillius' body it's time to reproduce so she becomes docile and controllable.

Re: Osaka's nonsense

Looks like I'm finally getting used to Modo. :3

Found some courseware over at bttrove.org that's teaching me how to use the program, project by project as I follow along.

It's almost as easy as Doga!

I did 40 minutes of Cinema 4D work in just 9 minutes with Modo 302 <3

Edit:
Texture for tray took about 10 minutes of farting about. Got a realtime render of what the output would look like as I did it.

...This is disturbingly intuitive. Like the kind of stuff I dreamt about using C4D.

Re: Osaka's nonsense: Mecha & Characters, 3D & 2D art

Anyone even vaguely interested:

PM me for details on getting Modo (the 3d app) and where to get video tutorials.

Re: Osaka's nonsense: Mecha & Characters, 3D & 2D art

Dear Doc,
Have a ground-combat type.

-Osaka

(To those curious: Yes.
I have just been watching Patlabor.
And Macross Plus.

The YF21 has sexy ankles.
The Type Zero is just awesome. <3)

*Decides to give Osa his own Gundam, of the not sucky variety.* Bravo, awesome job.

Re: Osaka's nonsense: Mecha & Characters, 3D & 2D art

Finished my project.

When I've done the particle stuff, I'll add a little flame. :3

Object also translates nicely into Cinema 4d but most of the shaders I used were lost and C4d's shaders don't follow XSI/Lightwave conventions like Modo do so they look "dumb" in comparison - lacking volume and depth.
