Sune looked at the list and thought for a moment to collect his thoughts.

"Ketsurui-Taisa with your permission I will go first." Sune offered. After waiting a moment to see if the Taisa objected.

"Ma’am my decision to join the Star Army, was simply out of a need to serve, and be useful. Like most Nekovalkyrja I was created to be a soldier. But when I woke aboard the Bouken, I had no knowledge of my origin, and the only thing that felt right to me was to be useful. It was not until I saw my first Star Army vessel that I had an idea of where I belonged. I left the Bouken and asked the scout ship commander to take me to the nearest Imperial world so that I could enlist."

Sune paused for a moment to think if there was anything else he wanted to add, after deciding that he was content with that he moved to the second question.

"During my time both in training and before, I have always pushed myself, to be the best that I can be. And during my time in training one could hardly go a day without hearing about the exploits of the Eucharis, and her notable crew. And with time I came to the decision that if I am going to be the best member of the SAoY, then I need to be put myself into the most challenging situations, and the record of the Eucharis speaks for that. "

Okay, now for the subject that I have been asking myself. How to best serve the ship. Being just another medic would be redundant most of the time. Well here goes.

"Ma’am as for what role aboard the Eucharis I can best serve. I believe that my skills and talents would best serve the ship in a dual role. I trained in medical because when I was aboard the Bouken, there was a true need for one, but with a Nekovalkyrja and Yamataian crew under normal circumstances a single medical person would suffice. And according to the roster Konoka-Hei is already assigned as the Eucharis medic. I would therefore respectfully suggest to the Taisa that I might better serve as an Intel Specialist and assist medically when there is a situation that calls for more than one person."

"I feel that I could be a good leader, once I have proven myself worthy of such responsibility."

"Yes. I enjoy meeting people, interacting with friends and crew alike. Although I have not had as much experience as most Yamataians would. So many things are new to me."

Sune paused to see if there was anything else he wanted to add, and decided he has said what he felt was best.

"That is all I have to say at the moment Taisa"

It was a rather tense moment as the Taisa eyed her and the rest as they were indicated to take a seat on the either sides of the wardroom table. The room was pretty quiet except for the constant noise and smell of food coming from somewhere, making Nika's ears and nose twitch constantly, somewhat tempting her to get off her seat to look for the source. It was then Hanako started talking and asked the new crew members in answering the following questions being shown on the holographic list in front of them.

"Should I be answering in full? Or just point by point?" Nika wondered as she pondered through the questions. Its nice if she could write the answers down or send it via telepathy, but these options were not really suitable at this point of time. As one of the interviewee had finished presenting his answers to Hanako, she started,

"Ano... Taisa, I was originally with the Archiving Department in your family's household. However..." The neko blushed, "I wasn't being attentive enough in my work, thus my supervisors re-assigned me to military service." She sighed, ears drooping slightly before perking up again, "I've heard and read about the ship's many exciting adventures, especially the recent discovery of the Azoreans. Are we able to go there again?" She asked, her emerald blue eyes filled with eagerness, "I'm actually trained in Starship Operations, Taisa. However, if the post is already taken up by others, I'm good to help out in culinary, or doing archiving within the ship. Infantry work... well, that be the last resort." Her tongue sticked out a little, but she quickly pulled it back, hoping others had not seen it.

On the next question, Nika had to pause to think abit, "Being a leader requires much experience and dedication, as well as the huge responsibility involved. For me, I would like to work my way up first, gaining sufficient experience and knowledge before making this decision." She felt satisfied with this answer as she looked at Hanako's golden eyes, wondering what the Taisa be thinking.

"Being sociable isn't a big trait of mine..." Nika replied on the last question with slight reluctance, "I prefer being alone, enjoying the sights and sounds while relaxing, sorting out problems of the heart and mind." She paused, wondering whether she should be answering this, "Of course, when there are things I can't settle, advices and opinions from others help a lot as well.... That's all Taisa." She finished, a sigh of relief escape from her lips, while waiting for others to finish answering Taisa's questions.

Waiting for the first applicant to finish, Imakiri swallowed before taking a step forward, offering a bow after he did so. Imakiri made a mental note to "sell" himself as an ideal crewmember. Standing upright and with his hands behind his back, Imakiri began.

"In response to the first question, I joined the Star Army as I believe that it needs all the trained Scientific personell it can recieve, mostly due to the fact that it is us that make first contact with new peoples, places and technology, things that we can learn much from." started Imakiri, licking his lips nervously.

He continued with "The reason I chose to apply for a position on the YSS Eucharis was that, quite frankly, it had an excellent reputation as a vessel; you have a good ship here, Taisa, and quite simply I would like to be a part of it. Another reason is that I have been told that the vessel does not possess a science officer, something I personally feel most vessels of such size should have." Shifting his weight slightly, Imakiri paused before he started speaking again.

"As I mentioned before, I believe that every ship such as the Eucharis should have someone on board that is a specialist in the fields of science. The reason I believe this is due to the fact that there is much that such ships come across during their missions, things that require methodical study and analysis so that the Empire can ascertain levels of threat or usefulness. Forgive me for saying this, Taisa, but quite frankly there are some things that soldiers are too heavy handed for; it requires someone with knowledge of scientific theories and procedures to ensure that we learn as much as possible from our missions Knowledge is power, Taisa, and the more we learn the more powerful we become." Imakiri almost smiled to himself after the last part.

"As for a position of a leader, I have honestly not given the possibility much thought. My true aspirations are to further the field of scientific knowledge, not to win fame or glory." said Imakiri bluntly, still standing almost to attention.

"And how sociable I am? That depends entirely on the company I find myself in." said Imakiri, choosing to leave it at that. Bowing his head Imakiri took a step back, glad the ordeal was over.

Ramiro waited for the other three to finish answering as not to confuse the Taisa and then started answering. "I chose the join the Star Army of Yamatai because it was most convenient at the time and was the quickest for me to become enlisted in as I lived on the capitol world of Yamatai. Also, after my choice to be changed into a Yamataian I assumed the the Star Army would be the best choice."

"I chose the Eucharis firstly because before I enlisted I spent much of my time studying different famous current starships and one of them I heard much about was the spectacular YSS Eucharis. Also the Eucharis was where I was assigned so I suppose it truly was only half my choice for the recommendation of which ship I wanted to work upon and half your choice for assigning me to the ship." Ramiro realized that he was slouching and tried to discretely stand up straight. After all, every good soldier knew you always stand up straight in the presence of a another of significantly higher rank.

Ramiro took a short breath before continuing. "On board the Eucharis I feel I would be most useful as a ship operator because, as I said before, I spent much time before I enlisted studying ships, and part of that studying was on the basic operations and skills required to help operate a starship. But I suppose the best job for me would be whichever you see best for me as you have more much more experience then I may ever have on a starship and therefor have a better insight as to where certain skills are useful."

Ramiro realized he was slouching slightly again and getting annoyed with his discourtesy and again tried to discretely stand himself up straight. "I would say that am interested in becoming a leader partly because I work best where I have a little more freedom and leeway room. Also, if I am to become a starship operator, part of the job is too an effective leader and be able to earn the respect of anyone who would need to listen to me due to job requirements."

Ramiro took another short breath before he answered the last question. "I would consider myself a slightly sociable person, I would not go out of my way to make conversation with a person I don't know as some would, I do however enjoy overly conversing with people I am acquainted to or have befriended. Also silence annoys be, if you are with a group of people there shouldn't be awkward silences because they are, well, awkward."

Ramiro, having finished, made sure he was still standing straight and then respectfully folded his hands behind his back and kept his face stern and serious. I wonder whether or not she is planning to accept all of us. I hope my answers were satisfactory. What if they weren't? What if I don't make it? Shoot, I'm doing it again, just calm down, deep breaths, just like you were taught.

Hanako listened to each of the responses intently.

"Jalen, Valencia," she said. "You two should fit in nicely. Go claim some bunks in the crew quarters and get ready for the new years. There is a party on the planet down below which we do not want to miss."

Turning to Imakiri and Nika, the Taisa said, "I am not so sure about you two. This is a social ship--we are family to each other here. We do not want loners. I also do not get the most...professional impression from you."

Hanako waited for the two to make their cases.

Sune stood and bowed to the Taisa then went out of the wardroom and picked up his gear. Charisma, please provide directions to an empty set of quarters. He sent telepathically to the MEGAMI. Charisma provided him with the necessary directions. He waited until Ramiro exited the room. "Valencia-Hei, what say we share a room?"

"Thank you Taisa, you will not regret this choice." Ramiro saluted and left the room. Once out of the room he made sure the door closed behind him and then jumped in the air. "YES!" He quickly regained his composure when he realized Sune was watching. "Sure, we could share a room, lead the way." Ramiro then grabbed his bags and followed Sune towards the crew quarters. Once inside he found an empty bed which he tossed his bags down next to and sat down on.

Nika was surprised by Hanako's words. Did she said something wrong? Was it that whatever she had answered were of sufficient impact?

As the other two approved crew members left the wardroom, the neko pondered abit more, going through what she had replied earlier...

"Hanako Taisa," She made sure she had worded her answer carefully, while at the same time, her heart was thumping at a very fast pace, "At times, everyone need some privacy whenever they feel the need to relax and think things through." Nika paused, "Of course, sharing of problems with one another helps to build a better understanding of each other, which what socialising is all about."

Catching her breath, trying to calm herself down from the self-inflicted tension, "Meeting and making new friends and colleagues are parts and parcel of life. Not like I got much of the choice while at the Archiving Department... always being pushed around as I can do better than them..." Nika sighed, no matter how positive she might be, signs of breakdown can be seen from the corner of her eyes as she looked down, "Taisa, I just don't want to be alone again..."

Sune took a few moments to stow his gear in the available storage compartments. While he did so he pondered Valencia's behavior just prior to the interview.

He then walked over to Ramiro "Well congratulations Valencia-san, we made it through the interview. The Taisa has found us acceptable to the needs of the ship. I have a question for you though. Why did you give Kumiko a piece of paper so she could contact you? Do you think she has a problem with memory? I mean all she needs to find you is to ask Charisma where you are, or send a message via the station. I did not see anything in her behavior that indicated any kind of medical condition that would affect her memory."

Junko stepped out of the way, and sight, of Valencia and Jalen as they walked past, apparently having been successful in their interview. While she had gathered up her duffel and set out from the observation bay as soon as the message had come through, she had not arrived in time to join the others in the wardroom. Indeed, by the time she had reached the compartments hatch and was considering opening it, she could hear the interview beginning. She had conducted a momentary internal debate about which appeared better, reporting promptly but interrupting or waiting until the initial activities were complete. Having decided to wait, she listened as intently as she could through the bulkhead, confident that the ship’s computer could report her presence if really needed.

Imakiri frowned slightly, before looking at Nika as she spoke. Should he remain entirely truthful, or twist his words to sound more appealing to the Taisa? Deciding to remain true to his own methods, Imakiri opted for a more honest, straightforward stance.
"Taisa, I am here under the impression that this is a fine vessel with a professional crew. Yes, you may all be like a family and I respect that, and if I feel I have the cooperation of the crew that is fitting of anyone else of my rank and position then I see no reason why I would not become a full member of the crew."

Shifting his weight slowly, Imakiri moved the hair out of his eyes with a quick flick of his head. "I am not stupid, Taisa, I know that being a... a "loner" as you put it will achieve nothing, particularly in The Star Army. The scientific process is one that involves many people, Taisa, not just scientists such as myself; working as part of a scientific team has taught me that much. Of course, I can't change the way you see me and the way I act may rub others the wrong way, but if you want a professional, cooperative member of this ship's crew then I do not see any problem. I am here to do my job, Taisa, the same as everyone else."

Ramiro chuckled and shook his head a little at what Sune said. "Yes I understand that she is fully capable of being able to contact me on her own, however giving her my comm number not only lets her know of my interest in her, but also gives the implication that I would like to do something with her later, whether it be getting a couple drinks, just talking, or any other form of social arrangement." He looked up at Sune as he said the last part. "And congratulations to you too."

"Very well. I will let you both join the crew. Please do your best," the Taisa told Itakori and Himeya. "Go get yourselves bunks. You can get lunch here and then take part in the shore leave. For safety reasons, we should be using the buddy system - do wander off alone."

Sune nodded to Valencia, "Thank you." He paused to listen to Charisma advise him that he had a message waiting. "I still think it would be simpler and more direct to just say so to the person. Back on the Bouken, if I wanted to have lunch with Raia, I would just ask her. If she did not want to she would say so then, and I would make other plans." Sune pulled out his communicator and linked into the ship systems. He pulled up the message that Charisma had told him about. "Perhaps we should prepare to head down to the planet for the party the Taisa told us about?"

Ramiro rolled his eyes a little. "You must have a way with women," he said sarcastically. He thought a moment about the party. "Sure, lets get ready, I assume we don't have to be in uniform." He opened his bags and pulled out some of his casual wear. "Oh, is this party a formal party?"

Sune thought for a moment, "From the Taisa's comments, I do not think this is a formal party. Please excuse me, but I need to go to the MedBay, I'll be back in time for our departure."

Sune then exited the room. He asked Charisma for directions to the Eucharis's Medbay. Pineapple, that was one of the crew members who died on the last mission. Well we will soon fix that. he thought.

Once he entered the Medbay he made his way, it took him a moment to get his orientation in the room, he went to the office with the desk and pulled up Pineapple's bio-data. He then transferred the data to one of the Hemosynthetic Reconstruction Tubes. While the tube was growing the body, he took a moment to scan the records for the other crew members.

Once the system reported that the body was complete, he initiated the transfer of Pineapple's backup into the body. This is what apparently was not completed when I was constructed. he thought. He monitored the download, ensuring that the process was proceeding normally.

When the download was complete, he checked her vitals before waking her. He grabbed a medical smock from the supplies then he had the tank drain. He opened the tank and helped her out. "Welcome back to the Eucharis Pineapple." He handed her the smock, and said "Nitô Hei Jalen newly assigned to the Eucharis at your service."

The creation of a new body took roughly an hour. Once Pineapple was out of the Hemosynth goo, she quietly thanked the unfamiliar medic.

"I'm pleased to meet you, Jalen. I am Pineapple, shuttle pilot and cargo manager. If you would excuse me..."

The former sprite went to go get showered and dressed, and then went to the wardroom to get her first meal in her new body...a chicken fillet sandwich with sour cream and onion chips and a pickle and coleslaw on the side.

EUCHARIS LUNCH MENU:

Chicken Fillet Sandwich

Side Items (Choose up to 3): Green beans, red beans and rice, sour cream and onion chips, pickle, coleslaw

Drinks available: Water, Lemonade, Milk, Chocolate Milk, Lorath Wine, Yamataian Wine

Ramiro picked up his comm and looked up the party event. Seeing that the party was going to be far from formal he tossed one of his bags to the side and dug at the bottom of another bag. Finding what he needed he grabbed his clothes and headed towards one of the bathrooms to change. Roughly a minute later he walked back out of the bathroom in a tight white muscle shirt and some slightly torn and slightly faded blue jeans. He then walked over to one fo the storage compartments where he placed his bags, neatly folded his uniform which he placed next to the bags, and then pulled a black leather jacket out of the top bag which he slipped on. He then walked over to the bathroom where he inspected himself in the mirror and, finding himself satisfactory, walked back out and head towards the kitchens for lunch.

After a little while more loitering in the passageway, Junko thought that the low frequency hum of voices had died off past the bulkhead, but she couldn’t be sure, what with the plethora of background noises inherent aboard ship. A quick question to the ship’s computer, however, assured her that the Taisa was finished with the first set of interviews. Junko glanced down at her uniform, dispassionately checking for lint, wrinkles, or any other blemishes that might mar her appearance. Satisfied, she lifted her duffel bag, holding it in her left hand, and pressed the activation key for the hatch. Taking one step into the wardroom, without even looking about, she straightened to attention before dropping into a crisp forty-five degree bow. “Takeda Junko Santo-Hei reporting as ordered.”

Ramiro silently entered the wardroom and took a seat at an empty booth for lunch. He then looked at the menu as he decided what to order. After thinking for a while he ordered the sandwich with sliced pickles and lettuce, a side of chips and a pickle, and a glass of Yamataian wine. While he waited for the food he pulled out his comm and quickly taped a wireless order for pickup, which he decided he would retrieve when he was down for the party.
