RP: YSS Aeon [Mission 10.1] Diving into the Fray

Shuttlecraft

Santo Hei Rein Sif sighed in annoyance as he squeezed into his padded seat, between one end of the row of seats and a short Neko girl. As he sat, the man wiggled his muscular arms forwards as to not be trapped by his sides when the shuttle's seat harness clamped down over him. Unnecessary if you asked him, like anyone would target a shuttlecraft over anything else on a major starbase - what would a metal bar do to save you anyway?

Tugging one end of his purple-paneled working uniform to iron out the creases, the Nepleslian-blooded man's heavily tattooed forearms were revealed as his sleeve cuffs hiked up with the movement, drawing a curious glance from the Neko beside him.

The shuttle eventually sidled alongside to the YSS Aeon, moving along at a fairly slow pace. Finally, the airlocks joined and with a deep "hiss" the doors bridging the two vessels slid open. "Excellent.." the Infantryman muttered, standing and pacing over to the threshold. This first step aboard this new station, this Plumeria, promised much. His boot thumped as he stepped through, ducking to get under the entranceway. Who knew what was in store?

On the main screen the Yome was moving ahead of the Aeon and the Genshō. The sensors showed that the Tunnel Drive of the Yome was at work creating the passage that the mission would soon pass through.

Katae entered the ship wide intercom. "Attention all hands. Shortly we will entering the wormhole passage that our allies are going to create. All hands secure all loose items. All Sections report readiness. Engineering, engage the gravity shield. Yoshiro lay in a course for the aperture; target the center. The Yome will signal when we can enter."

Engineering

Hisa ran one last diagnostic check on the strange shield system. After being satisfied that the units were working normally she picked up her handset. "Bridge, Usaga-Juni reporting, the gravity shield system is operating within specifications. CFS and Fold Systems are on Standby. Aether drives ready for maneuvering. Engineering standing by to respond to orders."

Medical Center

Sunflower looked around at the crew members. "If you folks have duty stations you need to be at. I suggest you get their quickly. If not you might want to go to the lounge and strap in." She then made a circuit of the room, closing and securing all the cabinets and putting up any items that were on the counters. "This should be an interesting trip." she said giving the crew members a wink. She then picked up the intercom. 'Bridge Sukura-Hei reporting, Medical Center is secure."

Cracking his knuckles and smiling he prepared to set course. "Aye, taisa. Setting course for the apeture and awaiting signal from the Yome." Yoshiro said. He checked to make sure that all systems were working and then stretched. It was going to be fun and hopefully uneventful but if it wasn't he was as ready as he could be.

Hitohoshi isn't aware of any particular station she should be at, so she heads for the lounge as suggested and secures herself to a seat, preparing for the jump. If there was somewhere else she was expected to be, she was sure someone would correct her before it was too late...

Arete blinked for a few moments as the CO's voice reverberated through the plumeria. She smiled at Misaki for a moment before sidestepping, elevating the coffee mug with her right hand awkwardly before translating it to her left a moment later. "Excuse me, Chusa."

Turning on the spot again, the smol sipped at her coffee cautiously as she stepped towards one of the various consoles in the room, typing slowly with one hand as she arrived. One of her mottled wings stretched out idly to her left, looking like a blanket on a clothesline for the time until it had idly returned to a neat, natural fold behind her back.

Satisfied with the interactions between the power plant and the strange technology the Aeon had installed, the little birb turned around again and rested her rump upon the edge of the console. She glanced towards the other technician in the room with a smile, speaking, "I don't think I caught your name earlier, Miss...? My name is Ar - Surinus Arete." Yamataian naming is weird.

Lounge

Effy had found herself idly follow in Hitohoshi's footsteps and then once secure in her own seat, spoke out, "I suppose there is a first time for everything. Are you nervous or excited?" She asked Hitohoshi these things with a slight nervousness to her own voice.

Lounge

"Well I think there is nothing that can go wrong." Effy said it with a determined grimace of a smile. A perturbing thing to look at, it was at first as if Effy had lost all blood in her face. She began to move her hands around her seatbelt uncomfortably and re-iterated, "Nothing can go wrong."

Engineering

"Greetings Surinus Arete-Hei, I am Usaga Hisa-Ittô Juni. Engineer for the Aeon. In Engineering I don't worry about naming convention. When things get busy we don't have time for that stuff here. You are the first Elysian in my department." She walk over the main console and entered a series of commands. "You got anything to protect those wings of your when working in the crawlspaces? Things are about to interesting shortly. I know our allies have used there wormhole technology for centuries, but I have to admit the idea of flying through two of them back to back gives me case of shudders. I guess the good news is if it fails we won't be around to realize it."

Aeon Engineering

"That's what the AMES is for, yes? They finally made an official variant of it to support Elysians, thankfully." Speaking of, the smol one really should get hers on. Of course I'd leave it in the cabin... She sighed, "Fat lot of good that'll do me if I don't put it on. I'll get to that before we need to do too much work, my apologies." With a simple, clean salute the undersized woman would be on her way, dumping her remaining coffee into a receptacle as she returned to her room, donning the environmentally-resistant suit and stowing the mug as quickly as possible.

Lounge

Effy looked over to Hitohoshi and with wide eyes said quickly and over-excitedly, "Nothing can go wrong, right?!"

She was clasping her own hands now and rocked slightly.

Lounge

Hitohoshi stares back at Effy. "...you're starting to make me worry, you know. The more you insist everything's fine, the less sure you must be about that. It's... UNLIKELY anything will go wrong, though..."

Crew Lounge

Rein Sif slipped into the surprisingly large lounge room, casting his cyan eyes across its various upholstery and the other crew dotted about. The thick scarlet carpet that covered every inch of the floor caught his interest, the Star Army logo emblazoned into it. Strangely enough, it brought back memories of the backroom of the bar his boys used for business, though that had been a logo of some tiger from god knows where.

The taller Nepleslian slung his kit bag under the nearest table and squeezed in, his tattoos poking out from under his cuffs as he did. Here he was. His first placement. The dark-skinned Infantryman sighed in a mix of contentment and anticipation, running a rough hand across his coal hair and down to his thick stubble. Who knew how this new walk of life would treat him.

The distortion created by the Yome grew to its full size. On the Aeon main screen the area appeared as a region of wrinkles. They resembled waves in a contained area.

The HSC vessel then broadcasted to the other two vessels. "Attention comrades. The space tunnel is complete, raise your gravity shield and proceed. The second tunnel is 1 light second beyond the exit of this one. It is in place and being maintained by our system ship. We will follow after the Gensho has passed through."

Bridge

The message broadcast by the WAP vessel was channeled to the bridge speakers.

Katae turned to her XO, "Misaki acknowledge the Yome's transmission."
She then picked up the intercom handset and dialed ship wide. "All Hands This is the Taisa; Prepare for Wormhole transition."

She placed the handset into its holder and turned to Yoshiro. "Engage plasma drivers. Take us to the aperture and disengage the drives before we pass through it.

Engineering
Hisa looked around at her domain, she was a bit surprised by Arete's abrupt departure. She made a mental note to have an AMES manufactured for her technician that would be stored in the Emergency Locker in Engineering.

Bridge-

Yoshiro nodded and followed his orders. "Engaging plasma drives. Entering wormhole in ten seconds." Yoshiro said and when the indicator said he was about to enter the wormhole he shut down the drivers. After a quick moment of silence he counted down the remaining seconds "Entering wormhole in 3, 2, 1." He said as the ship entered the wormhole. As the ship traveled through the wormhole he made sure to check that everything on his end was working.

Arete panted a link as she jogged through the door, looking slightly disheveled but altogether in one piece and completely covered by the protective environmental suit-even down to the wings. She saluted Hisa again, her undersized stature easily discernible with the doorway behind her. "Many apologies for that, Hisa-Juni! I have a hard time keeping track of time sometimes-I didn't know we were moving along so soon!"

Bridge
"We have confirmation." Misaki announced, once she checked on the IFF status a last time, she remembered to try and get time to speak to the worn out woman later, even if it meant she had to get medical to make her take a shift of sleep...that or jolt her with something more powerful. Sometimes there was no time for sleeping in a prolonged engagement.

This operation was something new to the XO, but she did not let it show, instead glancing to Katae's face before returning to the readout. The blue-haired veteran was actually eager to see what this new threat might be like, though if their mission resulted in making it easier to sue for peace later that just meant their involvement was all the more important.

Approaching the Wormhole

The Aeon entered the Wormhole at the proper trajectory. There was a brief surge of acceleration. Items not secured flew upwards and then back down as the inertial compensators tried to keep thing stable. Crew members found themselves pressed firmly into their seats during the transition. The main screen showed the swirling energies of the vortex and those in the lounge were able to view it through the windows.

The Experience of passing through the wormhole was brief a matter of seconds from the time they entered to when they emerged.

The Aeon emerged from the first wormhole and was headed straight for the second. Once more the Gunship plunged into the energy vortex and re-emerged in normal space. Now some 40 light years from their point of origin.

A few minutes later the Gensho emerged from the swirling energy. Then the Yome came out. After the Clan vessel had emerged the vortex vanished behind it.

The expedition was now in relatively uncharted space. A data transmission from a clan probe in the system pinged the starships.

Katae looked around the bridge and then to Misaki. "XO start scans of the system. Get a download from the clan probe. "

She picked up the handset. "Attention all hands this is the Captain. We have successfully traveled beyond our empires borders to our rally point. Engineering disengage the gravity shield and bring up the CFS. We are currently at Condition 3. Check your stations and report any problems to the XO."

Lounge

Effy's death grip on her chair subsided with some time after the wormhole entry and, soon, she was breathing normally. Her concern was for nothing and she realized that, now that it was over and it was apparent that there was no incredible threat.

"Santô Hei Tsuki Hitohoshi, I am going to go to the power armor bay," Effy then said before standing and pressing her skirt down. "You are more than welcome to join me." She gave a bow to each Santô Hei in the lounge and then proceeded to the door.

Lounge

Hitohoshi tried not to let it show on her face, but she had also felt a little uneasy about the wormhole. It's hard to remain perfectly calm while gravity is going wonky around you, no matter how short-lived the experience.

After things have settled back to normal, Hitohoshi stays seated a bit longer than necessary, to try and assess her feelings about her first trip through a wormhole. Then Effy says her name, drawing her attention, and suggests she tag along with her. "O-oh, yes, of course." Hitohoshi swiftly lifts herself from her seat and follows Effy out of the room. She gives a nod to the others in the room as she departs.
