Mitsuko blushed again, reminded of her daydream and subsequent outburst the day before. "I-it's good to have a plan for the future, Suzume-chan. I'd be happy to help you when I can." She paused for a moment, after they'd put away their dishes. "...but, I'm not sure that's what I want to do. I'll think about it...we've got plenty of time."

Murakami smiled at the thought, then nodded at her roommate's question. "Sure. I think we should go after we open the captain's presents, though." She blinked, remembering the odd conversation during dinner yesterday. "I believe Sune-Chusa planned to give us something as well..."

Conrad didn't get it. At one moment they were tasked to be sent to HX-24, then all of the sudden others were asking for HX-21...and now this individual who was going to assist him in creating his mental backup, who wasn't female as far as he knew, seemed to respond to questions who were clearly directed to a 'ma'am', most probably the Shosho. Quite the oddity.

Conrad shook his head. He didn't have time for second coffee. Luckily he wasn't as hungry yet, otherwise his stomach might even have growled for another plate of delicious food. But he needed to go to the Medical Center.

''Apologies Yamashiro-san, my attention is needed elsewhere. We will have to continue our talk at a later time. Have a pleasant day.''

Slowly, just to make sure he would bump into anything, Conrad got up. He walked over to put his used plate and cup where they were required to go after use, then proceeded to the Medical Center.

So it was determined everyone would have to check in for a mental backup at the bed bay. Egil stacked his cup and plate and was about to stand up and follow the Chusa out when the away team discussion broke loose, so he remained seated a while longer. The whole ordeal seemed a bit unstructured and lacked the chain of command, but he’d let it slip by without raising any questions since they were technically still off-duty. He’d be fine as long as he got a spot on an away team.

As most of the crew moved on to their presents and Egil figured there wouldn’t be any for the new guys, not that he minded at all. He didn’t know them well enough to properly receive a gift from them. He would need a bit longer in the med bay anyway, or perhaps he could relieve the night shift crew to allow them to open their presents with the rest of them. Egil lifted his dishes off the table and joined his roommate in putting them away.

“Hold up.” He caught up to the Nepleslian and stopped him from leaving the room just yet. “Ma’am, we could relieve the night shift so you all can take the time finish up. This way they’ll be able to join you in opening their presents, if they haven’t already.” He spoke to Hanako. Every system on the ship would probably be running on some sort of autopilot and he knew enough to get around. He’d be able to see the bridge and meet the last part of the crew in one go.

Wardroom/Lounge Stairway

Hanako looked up the stairs at Egil, impressed by his offer. "Thank you, but even still I must hurry, as I want to get to HX-24 as soon as possible to investigate the activity there. We have already waited a night. Besides, you two should open your presents with the rest of the crew. You are part of us now, after all."

The Shosho went down the stairs into the lounge and stood next to the fragrant and heavily decorated tree, admiring the shining lights as she waited a moment for the others.

Sune turned from his path to the Medical Center to follow Hanako to the Lounge. He took a seat on one of the sofa's to watch.

"Okay, see you later Hightower-san!" Natsumi said as her new friend departed. She quickly finished the last bite of her breakfast and cleared away her dishes. For a moment she considered asking to join the away team bound for HX-21, but thought it would be best if she stayed at her post on the bridge. There were enough of the crew going as it was that they might be a bit short once they began their investigation of HX-24.

Natsumi followed the others down into the lounge, the fragrance of the tree greeted her, soothing and delightful. She found an empty spot on one of the couches and plopped herself down. She felt a little bad that she hadn't really had a chance to do gift shopping, she had planned to do so after they visited the onsen, but their trip had been cut short, nixing the idea of taking a lot of time to find something nice for everyone. She had at least managed to stop and pick up a small box of chocolates and card for everyone, which she hoped they would enjoy. Then for Hanako, Ramiro and Bors, her Captain, her boss and her roomie, she had bought each challenge coin, which had the Star Army logo on one side and the Eucharis on the other. She the bronze and enamel coins were pretty and hoped they might like them.

Relaxing into the comfortable couch, Natsumi waited for things to begin, closing her eyes for a moment, enjoying the smell of the tree and the soft murmur of the crew.

Lounge

Misato followed Mitsuko down to the Lounge and found a nice comfy seat to watch things from. The sight of the tree was breath taking, it reminded her of her first few days aboard this ship. Had it really been only an year, so far? See saw her gifts to the crew tucked underneath the tree. The case of wines turned out to be pretty much the right number. She couldn't wait to see what all everyone got for each other.

Lounge

Hanako couldn't help but laugh as she got her box of chocolates. Next, Hanako accepted her coin from Natsumi and took a moment to read the card. "Open them up! We have planets to explore," she smiled. "I tried to get something tailored for each of you and also general presents for everyone."

Lounge

Conrad had followed the rest of the crew, but he didn't really like going to the lounge at this point. He would gladly wait until the mental backup, but what he disliked most was the fact that he was going to get presents in the sense that he could not return the favor yet. He could not repay the generosity given he had only been on this ship a short amount of time.

When he opened up his gifts though, he couldn't help but smile from ear to ear. He was grateful for all he would receive. Conrad was always fond of the more practical gifts. It was overwhelming, he wouldn't know who to thank.

Conrad was already planning and calculating where he could put the hammock in his cabin, and where he would put the Eucharis plushie, and the definitely comfortable Conrad-sized bath towels, bathrobe and kimono. Luxuries he hardly had at home, where he only had stitched together towels that quickly wore out at the seams.

''Thank you, all of you.'' said the man, feeling speechless. He would remember this and repay the favor double at the first opportunity. He could hardly wait.

Lounge

Sune thanked those who had given him presents. "There is one gift by the tree, that is for all of the crew. It is a VCE Console. It is for loading the Memory Orbs, but it can also be used by anyone during their off duty time for recreation. There are five extra HALO's for use with the console allowing up to six users.

Hightower, Mashiro-Hei, when you get to the Medical Center I will give you your Tsuibo's."

Lounge

Mitsuko happily settled in next to Misato, her lap and the area around her feet filled with boxes. Her eyes were even brighter than usual, as she started opening presents. This took a while, as she carefully removed the wrapping, sliced open tape, opened boxes, creating a tidy pile of folded paper and boxes as she organized all her gifts while admiring them.

Some of the chocolate had already made its way into her mouth. Neither set was going to last long. "Mmm~" She blushed as she looked at her roommate and the similar pile of items forming. "This is wonderful! This really happens every year? I didn't wrap mine up or anything..." Murakami was starting to stow the various items inside of the luggage as Sune spoke up.

"...what do these Memory Orbs do, anyway? Sir?" She'd have to save the proper thanks and bows for when she had removed enough items from her lap to stand. Then she'd hurry to retrieve her own gifts with Misato's help. She had to surprise her roommate while they had a quiet moment in the cargo bay, as well. "A kimono, too, hmm...we really need bigger closets in our cabins..." Mitsuko mumbled to herself, already planning where to store everything in her room.

"Think of them as a photo album for your memories. You can done load memories into it and it can then display it as a hologram. That way you friends can look at them, or you can just play it for your own needs." Sune replied. "For example, I have an orb with images of all the people who have been important to me in my life."

Lounge

Natsumi went about happily opening her pile of gifts. There were so many things, she had not expected everyone to buy so many gifts!

She started with the large packages from Hanako, the rolling case, an absolutely beautiful kimono in blues and silvers, chocolates and a music instruction program. "Oh wow! Thank you, Shosho!" Natsumi said, her voice full of excitement. She instantly wanted to put on the kimono and try out the music hologram. She still had yet to submit Bors to any torture with the karaoke machine she had picked up a while back.

She went about opening all her gifts from the others, loving all of them, the plushy from Takeyu and the very techie bracelet from him, which she put around her left wrist. She very much looked forward to using the day spa certificate Sune gave her and was really curius about the Tsuibo Orb and what that would be like to use. The hair kit from Mitsuko was going to be so much better with her mass of hair. She felt like a princess being showered with gifts and couldnt thank everyone enough.

"Thank you so much!" she squeaked, having nearly launched off of the couch in a flurry of wrapping paper and ribbons and throwing her arms around everyone in turn, hugging them all.

Wardroom/Lounge

“W-we get presents?” He muttered under his breath.

Egil looked as surprised as his voice sounded. This was the third time simply assuming something on this ship had made him end up with a wrong conclusion. He had been given time for a short visit to his family during the holidays and had celebrated with them and now felt a bit bad for not bringing something along for the crew. Well… there was no turning back now so he simply followed the rest down the stairs thinking he'd make up for it as soon as he could.

It was a bit late in the season for a Yule Tide tree, but the aura they always seemed to emanate was ever pleasant. Egil liked the Holiday season, like most people, and the tree would've actually made him feel at home if it weren't for the awkwardness of his situation. He accepted the gifts with gratitude and, after the captain insisted they should open them, unwrapped the pile in front of him along with the rest of the crew.

He was astounded by what he found inside all those gift wrappings. It started with a card that wished him a happy holidays, followed by chocolates that would last him for weeks, a dark blue kimono with a grey hakama and footwear, a personalized traveling case and a plush version of the YSS Eucharis that instantly reminded him of the miniatures his father used to build.

To top it all off he received a memory orb for storing and sharing special memories and a personal assistant bot that was at least a big as he was. He never thought he'd actually own one of these, but he would surely put it to good use. This wasn't even the entire list, but he'd have to take the time to inspect everything in his cabin once the day shift was done.

Egil wasn't a man of many words, but even he couldn't stay silent after such lavish gifts. He received the Itto-hei's hug with a large smile on his face and cleared his throat to gather the attention of everyone in the room after they all finished opening their presents.

"I'd like to say something if I may. I know it's usually the captain or an officer who gives a speech, but it doesn't feel right to keep quiet. Thank you all for your generosity and I think Hightower-san will agree with me when I say we'll give our utmost best to fit in and continue the fine legacy of this ship and its crew. Thank you again." It was all he could think of saying right now and he made a deep bow towards the group after.

Lounge

Bors came down to the crew lounge after finishing up his breakfast, and took a look at the gifts. He was a bit surprised when he saw a few with his name on them. Taking an open spot on the couch he picked up his gifts and gave them a good shake to try and guess what was in them.

After about fifteen seconds of attempting to guess he carefully opened each present, keeping the wrapping paper mess to a minimum. He was surprised as he opened them, he especially enjoyed the Butterfly Knife and the Boot flask from the Shosho. Thanking the appropriate people for the gifts he gathered them up started to carry them to his room

"I'm gonna go start prepping for the mission, Ill be in the PA Bay if anyone needs me."

Thanking everyone again he went to his cabin and placed his new gifts carefully on his bed before heading off to the PA bay to get his armor ready for the upcoming mission.

“Thank you Egil,” Hanako said, returning the bow with a curtsey. “I am glad you like your gifts. Since you are a computer technician, I thought it might be good for you to have something that allows you to work with an AI without the restrictions of the ship’s computer.”

Just then, the lounge intercom came on. It was Blackberry. “Excuse me Shosho, but we have some company. I request that the day shift bridge crew come up here.” In the background they could hear the sound of someone cursing angrily.

“If you will excuse me,” Hanako said. As she left the lounge, she turned around in the doorway and put her finger on her temple for a moment. “Think ‘away team’,” she grinned.

Bridge

“THIS IS A FREE SETTTLEMENT OF CIVILIANS!!” an enraged Mishhuvurthyar shouted on the main screen. “YOU ARE NOT WELCOME HERE, YAMATAI! Go away.”

“With whom am I speaking?” Hanako asked as she stood in front of her desk.

“You! Hanako Ketsurui of all people!”

“I am asking for your name,” Hanako reasserted herself.

“Grullyvushhgari,” the Mishhu huffed. “Former NMX Overseer, now a person of business.”

"We need to inspect this planet for NMX forces," Hanako said.

"This is not a military settlement. Furthermore," the Mishhuvurthyar simmered, "this is not part of the Empire and your laws are not applicable here."

"That may be, but this planet is not a nation. We will visit if we please," said Hanako. "It important that we secu..."

"Miss Ketsurui this planet has in recent times become a place of free multi-species interaction, where individuals from across the galaxy have gathered. I knew this day would come when Yamatai would encroach on us and I have viewed it with dread. You must promise not to disrupt things. I have worked hard to get this set up and it is delicate."

"As in unstable?" Hanako inquired. "And you speak for this planet?"

The Mishhuvurthyar grumbled. "Well...we have had our shortages of supplies and crime is a major nuisance. And I do. Mostly."

"Maybe we can help you," the Shosho offered. "Every society has its problems. In return for letting us visit, we will solve some of your problems. Alright?"

"Oh really?!" the Mishhu exclaimed, raising his dozens of tentacles up in the air mockingly. "Maybe. But I have some restrictions. No use of ship weapons, power armor, or teleportation units is allowed on this planet. And if you visit, watch your back. I cannot be held responsible for the people living here."

"Very well," Hanako said. "I will talk to you again later. End transmission."

As the screen returned to a view of the HX-24 star system, Hanako looked to the other bridge crew with raised eyebrows.

Conrad carefully placed all of his gifts (which was 100% more then he expected, and quite a lot) in his newly given luggage case and picked it up. Before he could silently leave however, he received a hug from his former breakfast buddy. The magic of the Yule Tide tree seemed to work well on most apparently. His roommate even spoke up, and said even more then he did during the whole stay.

Then again, it might be better if Egil talked and he remained quiet. Two talkers would be way too much. Conrad got up and made sure he disposed of his waste properly, before making his way to his cabin. Now, he had even more stuff to examine and give a place in Cabin 5.

After this, he would go to the Medical Center, not willing to delay anyone and preferring to have enough time to get there in his own tempo...even without second coffee.

Sune left the Lounge and made his way to his quarters. He placed the book on the shelf and ensured it was secure. He could not help but wonder where Hanako had managed to find such a book, but he looked forward to reading it.

He went to the second locker in his room and took out two packages Orbs, and left to go to Medical.

Medical Center

When he entered the Medical Center he placed the two boxes on the counter near the entrance. Since he was away from the bridge, he had his station streaming data to his Uno Sunglasses. It has to be a trick. A civilian Mishhu planet? More likely a breeding ground for terrorists and the like. he thought.

"Hello again , Mashiro-Hei. Right this way to the Mental Backup Station. While the machine does your backup, I am going to also get a baseline on you using the medical scanner." he said with a warm smile.

"Since this is your first backup, I need to warn you that the process is a bit uncomfortable. For that reason, we can offer sedation if you like. It will not affect the quality of the backup. Though most personnel rarely ask for the sedation."

Lounge

Misato Tore open her gifts like a young child. they were all awesome, The techno watch, the bags, the stuffed Star ship. Every thing was just grand, She was pleased with the NMX hat, after sniffing it and making sure there wasn't and blood on it she put it on, she did like hats. Though It wasn't a hat she would be able to wear often, she decided that she would get a stand or something for it and mount it some where near the desk in the cabin.

Once she opened the packages from Mimi-chan she smiled the book was interesting. It might help her with her business. Though the box of clothes were pretty cool also. When the Sho'Sho' and the bridge crew got called up to the bridge she gathered her stuff up, "Mimi, I'm going to go put this away, thank you for everything, though I think the fun has just ended I need to go suit up and prep. sounds like things are going to get interesting."

She quickly took everything to her cabin and headed to the PA bay.

Medical Center

'Don't suppose you can run two...'

Conrad Hightower walked in. He had taken a bit more time then he had wanted to find the medical center. He was well within time though, just in time for the explanation. He looked at Egil, pointing at him then at himself, silently asking if he wanted to go first.

'No sedation for me sir. I could use a slightly rougher wake up then being showered in gifts.'

Conrad looked around the Medical Center. Looked fancy, looked good. Even doubled as confinement area. He'd wait until his cabin buddy was done with the backup, were Egil to go first. He himself didn't really like the idea of his mind being mapped and stored on a computer, but it was a necessary procedure. He hoped he wouldn't need to have it used in his first mission though.
