RP: 21st Fighter Sq [Mission 3.0] - Out of the Mist

As Ira hit the ground, a deafening explosion erupted from the side of the trail, a shockwave and projectiles flew over his head shredding all the vegetation.

Silic was knocked backwards down the trail by the concussion wave of the blast, as he tumbled back down the path, he could hear the distinct ping, followed by an explosion and repeat. After the third explosion he came to a rest against the base of a large tree. The way before him was a mass of smoke, and vegetation settling down. It created a wall through which the hostiles could not see anything.

----------------------------------------

The hostiles attention turned from looking for the snipers to the sound of hell of the surface where Silic and Ira were

On the other side of the camp Atsui heard what sounded like a war starting over where Rabbit team was. "Snipers, fire at will." she sent telepathically.

With a groan Silic managed to look down what was once the path just in time to hear the end of Iras' plan. “Great plan, sir. Love your work.” he replied woozily before his head fell back down and he tipped sideways in concussion induced pain, and probably something else, helmet bumping against the ground. “Ow...”

I didn't realize I was supposed to wait for that order, Yaeko thought as she reloaded her weapon. She turned her attention to the side opposite the explosions, and started picking off people near that entrance. She figured that she would be able to take out most of the people over there, so Atsui would have little resistance, and any people left wouldn't have time to run and notify the others. They won't know what hit them. By the time they realize they were flanked, the Chui and the hostages will be long gone.

Ira paused in his advance as he noticed Silic was laying on the ground. Ira then doubled back and ran over to Silic and began inspecting him to see if he was okay. He then snarled, and grabbed the man by the collar of his uniform.

"Quit your bitchin and lets go before we get pinned down. Something tells me THEY saw that little fire works show."

Ira gruffly helped Silic to his feet, and then took off running in search of a better position. This time he clearly was not looking back.

Ira's position ended up being in a grove of trees that was overlooking the area where he had tripped the wire. If any of the smugglers came here, he planned on springing a trap of his own.

"Youkai." Lynn replied to Atsui.

She aimed for people, now; the scurrying soldiers and angry weapon-holders. Lynn found one, aimed carefully for the center of mass... Breathe in, hold it... breathe out, fire. Once she had pulled the trigger she found another target, and repeated the process.

She kept checking to see if the PA or the Craft appeared where she could hit them.

Four of the smugglers charged into the smoke with the intention of finding an killing whoever set off the charges. They ran past Ira and Silic as they were looking towards where Silic had hit the tree.

---------------------------------------------

From the cavern, the unmistakable silhouette of a Kylie came out of the cavern. The power armor appeared operational, but it was obvious that it had been salvaged and repaired from multiple units given the various color panels on it.

The wearer of the armor looked around for the source of gunfire, and took fire at the trees.

And there it was. The Kylie had appeared, right in Lynn's sights. Reloading quickly, she then set to work on it.

First, she aimed for the legs: the kneecaps, specifically. Repeating the breathing technique she had begun earlier, she fired once. Then twice.

Then she took aim at the head.

Silic staggered and ran in the direction Ira had pulled him, occasionally bumping into things clumsily. He ran past the other Nepleslian a few steps before falling forwards and face planting into the dirt, legs still trying to propel him forwards for a few steps like he hadn't realised the suddenly victory of gravity. He fell the rest of the way before rolling over.

His natural arm moved to take off his helmet, but the hand flopped unnaturally, and the fingers couldn't grip the clasp strongly. He swapped to his mechanical left hand, letting the helmet fall behind his head. Silic grunted in pain and looking for something to splint his injury, then he remember the entrenching tool. He pulled it out from the small of his back and quickly tied the handle to his arm, blade covering his elbow.

Finally tying the wounded arm around his neck to keep it out of the way he wheezed “Never know when good shovel will come in handy.” He clasped the handle of his shotgun with his remaining good hand, breathing heavily.

Ira hid in the brush with Silic, and aided him in fastening to splint to his arm. "Stay here." Ira whispered in a calm voice.

Ira took his rifle and aim it at one of the men, he then practiced for a second switching his aim in between each of them as he silently started to walk through the brush. The sounds of battle could be heard helped Ira stifle the noises he would inevitable make.

Adrenaline pumped through Ira's body as he emerged from the brush and descended on the men. He squeezed the trigger rapidly, switching his aim as he practiced, but pressing forward in the form of a steady speed walk.

Yaeko fired the last shot of her magazine, and was about to reload when she saw the power armor coming out of the cave. "OH SHIT!" She threw in her last magazine of AP ammo and took aim at the armor, aiming for the shoulders to try and disable the weapon. As she cleaned out the magazine, she reported in. "Solitaire, problem! Armor, cave entrance, firing upon now, proceed with caution!"

"Unci." Atsui swore as she moved up to Konpeki. Their position came under fire a round ricocheting off a stone above her. She saw Konpeki open the door and step into the structure where the SSS personnel were.

"Message received, Eika-Heisho is in the holding structure. Concentrate on that armor or we're all dead." She sent telepathically.

She opened fire at a small group of smugglers, dropping two of them.

--------------------------------------------

Ira was able to handily drop two of the smugglers who never even saw his approach. He heard the voices of two more approaching from his side.

The Kylie reeled from the barrage of shots coming from Yaeko and Lynn, and as it stumbled and fell over a crate, its W2707 Forearm weapons went off. One shot went off in the direction of Atsui's team. The other hit beneath Lynn's position on the tree, causing it to creak and sway ominously.

"W-Woah! AH!" Lynn cried as the tree swayed.

Then she tumbled from the tree, doing a flip in mid-air before slamming into the ground with a muffled "Umph!"

Groaning, Lynn lay prostrate, trying to collect her thoughts.

Ira had to admit, this was exciting, but he could not afford to pause and celebrate not dying. When he heard those voice Ira was once again on the movie. He ran into the nearest brush, and once again was sneaking about, taking care to keep low. When the next to came he would be ready to ambush them like he did the first two.

Of course Ira had considered the fact that Vas-Hei was wounded, and was probably going to make noise and give his position away. Silic and those two dead bodies had just become bait.

Yaeko had time to finish off her last magazine of AP ammo before the enemy armor fired. Once Lynn's tree was hit, Yaeko had sprung to action before Lynn even fell. She quickly slung her weapon over her back, pulled out her knife, and cut the rope attaching her to the tree. She dove for Lynn, but was too late, as Lynn was almost to the ground already. "This is why you tie yourself to the damned tree." Yaeko kicked in her anti-gravity and slowed to a stop. She pulled some bandages out of a pocket on her utility belt, and began some very basic first aid on any breaks or sprains that she could identify right away. "You'll be alright, but I need to get back up into the tree." Yaeko then fireman-carried Lynn into the brush, where she would be hidden, before grabbing whatever AP ammo Lynn had left and then floating back up to her tree. "Solitaire, Hoshi is down, I'm not sure the extend of the injuries. I've transported her into the brush where she'll be hidden, and am resuming my sniping post. Once Yaeko landed on her tree, she took the two cut ends of the rope and began splicing them back together.

Damn it, another one of her pilots injured, this was so not going well thought Atsui as she moved up to the building fired at a smuggler who had his back to her and watched him fall.

"What is the status of that Power Armor, is it down for good?" she sent to Yaeko.

She opened the door looked at Konpeki, "We are running out of time, here. we need to move these people now."

"Okay folks, I told you what to expect, we are going out this door, turn to your right stay low and move as quickly as you can out past the stone wall. Once we are all out there, we will head for the LUT. If you are injured have someone assist you. No one gets left behind."

-------------------------------------------------------

Meanwhile Ira spotted a red dot moving across the foliage, it moved in a sweeping pattern.

Yaeko loaded in the AP magazine that she had looted from Lynn and slammed it into her gun. She looked down the scope at the power armor before reporting in. Solitaire, it appears to be on its back, but that doesn't mean it can't get up, or that its weapons can't fire. I'll hold it off as long as I can, but with all due respect, you need to haul ass! Yaeko fired twice at the weapons on the Kylie, then fire twice more at one of the legs, and fired the last two shots right at the head where the driver would be sitting. "Out of Armor Piercing ammo Chui, I'll stay up here long enough to clear you a path, but then I plan on getting the hell out of here before I end up like Hoshi, if that's alright with you ma'am."

"Acknowledged, we have the prisoners moving out now. Once we have them clear I'll give the order to fall back. We'll regroup at the point we engaged the hostiles by the stream. Make sure Hoshi gets out with you. We aren't leaving any of our people behind." Atsui replied.

Behind Atsui the SSS personnel were making their way out of the building and moving as quickly as possible out of the encampment.

The power armor moved, attempting to get on its feet. Atsui switched to her AP clip and fired repeatedly at the helmet of the person in the armor. Either she would penetrate and kill the person, or knock them senseless from the concussive force.

---------------------------------------------

Yaeko saw a pair of people coming out of the cavern entrance. Each of them was carrying T-F1 "Dragonsbreath"

"Flamethrowers coming out of the cavern. Either they're headed for you, or they're planning on burning us out of the forest. Engaging." Yaeko aimed two shots at each of the people carrying before unloading the rest of her magazine at any hostiles that would be in the way of Atsui's escape. She then slammed her last magazine into her weapon. She fired one more shot at each of the enemies with flamethrowers, and if they were already dead then she fired at the weapons so nobody could pick them up. She then turned her weapon towards Atsui so she could cover them with her remaining ammo.

Ira held his position, and stayed low. He waited till he saw who was using the red dot.

Ira leveled his weapon, taking care not to hit Vas-Hei with friendly fire. Ira opened up sending four rounds into the first man. Then he swiftly switched targets, and fired into the second. Ira would then move behind a tree, in the event he missed his marks, and they returned fire.

Yaeko's volleys as one of the flamethrowers erupted into a pyrotechnic fireball. The exploding fuel touching off other fires around the smuggler encampment.

From her position she could see the SSS personnel moving hurriedly away from the encampment. Her timely shooting kept one of the smugglers from shooting Atsui in the back as she made her way along assisting one of the wounded scientists.

----------------------------------------------------------

Ira's first volley of shots took down the smuggler, with copious amount of blood and gore being expelled from the falling attacking.

The other one fared better the split second warning of Ira shooting his partner was all he needed to dive behind a large rock that shielded him from Ira. He then quickly popped up fired a few rounds and ducked again. The shots missed Ira barely. Then a dark red eruption of blood came from Ira's left shoulder as a bullet slammed into him. It would appear that the smugglers had a sniper of their own, and the laser dot that Ira had failed to notice had found purchase.
