Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

"Are you trying to track power armors?" the sprite asked. Without waiting for a reaction, she pressed on; "You would still have to shoot them with the isotope, before they could be tracked."

Absently, she followed Kai's facial expression for a few moments, trying ineffectively to read it. She got the vague feeling he wasn't as interested as before. It, like many things associated with the touchy subject of crew interaction, made her vaguely uneasy.

"Do you have ideas?" she offered, experimentally.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Miyoko stared blankly at Sanjuro for a moment as he entered. And, of course, he went for his datapad. That settled it--he must have been waiting for these messages, there was no way he'd notice if they went missing. The violet-haired Yamataian rose from her seat and, biting back days of bile at him, spoke. "Ashitaka-heisho... could I have a word with you in private?"

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Sanjuro didn't tear his eyes away from his datapad as Miyoko spoke to him. Instead, the doctor raised his hand, as if asking her to be silent while he punched in few final taps into the datapad's screen. Sanjuro breathed a deep sigh and put the datapad on the table and slowly getting up.

"Yes, of course," Sanjuro said in a tired tone, waiting for Miyoko to lead the way.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Sora watched Sanjuro with a touch of concern before she finally spoke, "Ashitaka-Heisho, please take some time after the morning briefing to rest. I can cover the morning shift, it won't do to have you exhausted for the rest of the day. We can discuss further shift scheduling after you get at least 5 hours of sleep."

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

"Ah..." Sanjuro seemed at a loss for words for a moment. He seemed hesitant to answer Sora. "I'm...not sure if I should, I'm still in the process of rearranging the medical facility," he answered, heaving another tired sigh. "I'm sure you've heard about the recall on the Absecotech sedatives, Ketsurui-Shoi. I cannot risk faulty pharmaceuticals, however, in removing them from the medicinal stocks I've upset the storage system I have in place for the pharmaceuticals," Sanjuro droned on.

"Although...Ketsurui-Shoi, I'm sure you are fluent in the Powell and Yotsukaso methods for storing medicinal equipment, as they are both used in most operating rooms and medical facilities. If you wish, you may take over the work if you feel I do need the rest; I was up for most of the night working on it. However, I do things a bit differently; you will need to place pharmaceuticals based on their dosage amounts and purposes, scientific name before brand name, type of administration from largest to smallest to medium sizes. Start from the center cabinets and move outward; I've already finished one out of the ten, but with your advanced knowledge of the field, I'm certain you would make quick work of it."

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

"I'll do what I can, but you must get some rest, Ashitaka-Heisho. It is dangerous and almost negligent for a medical professional to go into their daily routine at the point of collapse. I know that efficiency is important but taking care of yourself is one of the most important things we must remember, no matter how much we may wish to finish a task when we first start it," Sora said firmly but not too harshly. She offered Sanjuro a soft, friendly smile. "Don't forget, we're working together as a team, so don't feel that you must do everything on your own."

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Sumaru's tranquil gaze was interrupted by a hint of concern, not for his fate but for what argument he'd have to face, as he waited Kotori's words. In the eyes of a seasoned warrior who had spent his time around many Captains, this was a woman who he felt was on a power trip. Her actions were unclear to him, and never once explained before the light haired youth, so he still didn't have a clear view of the Nekovalkyrja who stood in front of him even now. All he had was her stern and power hungry first impression.

So when she did finally say what she did, the Samurai was weary of her words. Nevertheless, he bowed his upper body before the Ketsurui Princess and took his leave with no words; she had already told him that he had her leave. There was no gratitude of after thoughts to share; Sumaru didn't treat this like a privilege. As a samurai he felt he had to bare great humility on this ship, he had done what was in his new life's law never to do. He was Ketsurui Samurai outside the palace, in a public setting without his robes.

With that he began the short walk back down the stairs, pausing a moment to bow his head to Sora and then with a simple and curt mental voice he told her. "She has given me leave to change, I will return in a moment."

Steady footfalls led the male Neko into the hall and towards the room; in his mind he was uneasy with the results of this situation. Sumaru expected more to it, and something deep inside felt that there was a grand catch to all of this. He mentally tried to ease his thoughts for the time being, instead he thought of all the events that brought him here and quietly returned to the room to change.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

"I am still very capable of my work at the moment, Ketsurui-Shoi," Sanjuro answered with a nod, his weary eyes sharply contrasting the statement. "There is no need to worry."

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

"That's good that you feel that way, but I would feel better once I know you have gotten in a power nap," Sora replied to Sanjuro. Her attention was pulled away from her fellow medic as her gaze followed after Sumaru. She had a perplexed look on her face but she did not press her samurai for further explanations, figuring he would talk to her own he calmed down.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Miyoko led Sanjuro onto the observation deck, far enough away from the rest of the group that they weren't likely to be overheard. She stared at him stonily for a few moments, gathering her resolve. Quickly, the ex-neko held out the datapad, practically thrusting it into Sanjuro's hands. "Here, I..." She thought back to the other night, trying to remember how Yoroko had phrased things. "I think you can use this more than I can. Especially considering that you're still getting mail on it." She turned her head and looked intently at the wardroom, as if she needed to get this exchange over this instant so that she could return to breakfast.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Kotori watched Sumaru go, giving him a few seconds lead before she herself returned to the wardroom. On the trip back to her seat, she noted Nyton's concerned look and gave him a discreet little nod as if in reassurance that everything was fine.

It was after she snapped the wooden chopsticks of her prepackaged meal that she noticed the sushi included salmon. A little smile snuck up on her face at the unexpected treat and she lost no time in seizing a morsel, dipping it in soya sauce and then bringing it to her mouth.

A little chewing, some reflexive swallowing and it was already gone, though... so she greedily began picking away at the rest of the salmon in her meal.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Aoiko was running late. Normally, this would be a grievous irritation that she would never allow to happen, but she felt both an urge to ensure her appearance was superbly tidy, and to flip through the debate surrounding the new laws. Dismissing the latter from her mind, she found out with some irritation that she had been promoted again and had to change out her patches. So it was that she arrived at the table midway through breakfast.

'Ohayo,' she said quietly to nobody in particular as she took her seat. 'My apologies for my lateness.'

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Tom nodded and left for the kitchen to begin cooking. He only got a request for French toast, but he figured that he could make some complementary dishes as well.

Soon enough, he came out of the kitchen with multiple slices of french toast, as well as some scrambled eggs and sausage. He probably made the sausage for himself, having submitted to his selfish Raltean fantasies for eating fatty meats.

He also came out with a small pot of soup. It was a bisque made with bacon and powdered sweet potatoes... and kicked with a bit of spice Sanjuro had given him the night before. He grinned at the doctor as he placed the pot with bowls on the table, the first sign he'd actually eased up a bit since waking up.

"A special Raltean breakfast is served. Of course... uh... if you all want a more traditional approach to things, there are some sushi bentos out back. I figured that it'd be nice to have something hearty before the mission, though."

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Yukari looked at the bowls of ... stuff, that were placed before them. She brought her nose closer to one and sniffed. The stuff seized her brain for a few precious seconds; it was far richer than she was used to, and its spice was as hot as an aether beam.

A spoonful was soon hovering before her mouth. Her body already felt parched from the sniff. She swallowed it down, hoping for refreshment.

"PLUUACK!"

Yukari began hacking hard and fanning her mouth. As she pushed herself away from the table her chair tipped backward and left her landing on her shoulders. She ended with her bottom over her head and her face red from the inferno destroying each and ever nanomachine comprising her digestive system. As an emergency maneuver she shut down every pain receptor she could consider along the fireball's projected path, until she was well enough to climb up from the ground and down an entire cup of water. Her face was as red as the peppers she had no idea she'd eaten.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Blink. Blink. Huh?

Tom stood dumbfounded for a moment at Yukari's reaction then looked at the pot of bisque. Then back to Yukari. She seemed ok... it wasn't as if he poisoned the food or anything.

His attention returned to the pot of doom. "Uh, I suppose it's a bit spicy? I only used a couple pinches of the stuff... sorry."

The Yamataian was curious now. He took a spoon of the bisque and sipped it. He thoughtfully rolled the liquid in his mouth, until the sharp sensation of spice nailed his tongue.

He swallowed. It burned all the way down to his stomach.

"Woah," Tom panted out. "That'll melt snow!"

A laugh overtook his reddened face as he reached for a glass of water.

"Hahaha! Ya'll gotta try this! If we had this on Ralt, we'd never freeze!"

He took a large gulp of his water and went to refill Yukari's glass.

"Sorry sweetie," he whispered to her. "Are you ok?"

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

The peaceful resolution of the matter was a relief to Nyton as he watched Kotori return. What he also appreciated was the slight smile he caught as she began to consume the salmon pieces. Apparently Kotori likes salmon very much. he noted before sitting back down. The commotion with the spicy food was witnessed by his secondary vision even as Miyoko attempted to speak with Sanjuro apart from the group.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Kai thanked Tom quietly as the Juni put the food on the table, and grabbed a couple pieces of french toast, which he began munching absentmindedly before Yukari 'exploded'. figuring he'd stick to the toast, Kai commented "The toast is great, Freeman-Juni."

After a few more thoughtful bites, Kai turned back toward Yuzuki, and answered her question of his thoughts on the matter of tracking enemy armors within the ship. "Good old fashioned micro cameras placed everywhere could work, in some cases. We could also measure the amount of energy in a room, unless an armor is using CFS inside a ship, it will give off a signature, stealth or no, I would think."

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

"I will be fine," Yukari replied to Tom hoarsely, the words not well enunciated. She laughed a little too after she carefully gulped down the next cup of water. "I believe — your statement about snow is not accurate. Khuueh! I — I think it could melt Yamataium."

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Yukari's rather explosive disagreement to the pot of bisque's content had Kotori jump in surprise, then give a quick yelp as she noticed that the piece of salmon she had in her chopstick slipped loose, indulging in a brief tumble in the air before it entered a state of freefall that would uneeringly have it meet with the wardroom's carpeted floor.

Amber eyes went wide. Chopsticks became a blur as Kotori darted her hand forward and snatched the piece of fish meat in midair. The neko froze, blinking at the success of her unlikely grab, before breathing out in relief and then quickly plopping the runaway morsel in her mouth.

Re: Mission 3: The sound of machina

Sanjuro's tired eyes widened a bit in surprise as Miyoko pushed her birthday gift back into Sanjuro's arms, stirring up some very unsavory memories from the night before. He returned Miyoko a weighted gaze.

"What are you talking about, Saito-Hei?" Sanjuro asked, apparently unaware of Miyoko's promotion. "You have many uses for this datapad. You are very unorganized, which is exactly why I specifically intended on giving you this, birthday or not. Even to a sensors specialist and medical assistant, a datapad is an essential tool, no matter how menial and simple-minded your work is."

Sanjuro held the datapad out, fully expecting her to take it back.
