RP: 21st Fighter Sq [Mission 6.0] Mists and Mysteries

The sudden shooting seemed to catch Silic by surprise, he heard someone screaming into the radio about assaulting and reacted. He jumped atop on of the rocks on the ridge and leapt. Just as he was about to come down his thruster pack kicked in and sped him off towards the base with a yell of exhilaration.

Three members of the Tachiban came to the entrance of the base. One was wearing an old black mindy. The other two where not wearing armor. They took positions by the entrance using the sides of the door to provide cover from which they could fire.

The Mindy surveyed the scene and noted Silic on his semi-controlled flight towards the three of them. She swung a rifle in is general direction and prepared to fire as it charged up.

Yaeko noticed the three Tachibana come out of the base, and noticed one of them take aim at Silic. Raising her rifle, she aimed for the arms of the old Mindy, attempting to disable it and not kill the user. After firing a few shots she turned her attention to the rest of the encampment which was only a few meters in front of her at this point. Slowing down, she made sure to keep her distance from the hostiles as she engaged anyone that she saw, attempting only to wound and disable.

Whilst Yaeko targeted the Mindy with her rifle, Kenshin activated his armors energy barrier and positioned his arm-mounted shield in front of his body to provide an additional measure of protection should the enemy manage to score any hits whilst he exposed and in the open. Using his armors optical enhancing capabilities, he magnified his vision to confirm that the two unarmored individuals accompanying the Mindy weren't on the list of VIP's that the squadron needed to capture.

With his other arm, Kenshin aimed the pulse energy forearm weapon of his Daisy towards one of the unarmored individuals firing from the base entrance -- unleashed a rapid volley of energy bolts at his target.

Anne observed what was happening and was always making sure of the target before pulling the trigger. She would hate to be cause of Friendly Fire. She could see IFF of Elisto and Hoshi, as they moved to disable the ships. She also saw a teammate sky-rocketing forward. Anne did not need IFF to know that it was Silic.

When three of the enemies ran out, she had view of them. Unlike Assault team she saw their flank. She used the AIES to aim at knee of the Mindy-clad person. She really hated killing after all.

Yaeko's shot at the enemy armor which appeared to be a Ke-M2-1E, did not disable the weapon system, the shot slammed into the armor and tore part way in, but it did deflect the shot. So the assailant instead of hitting Silic square in the chest, hit the arm shield of his Daisy. Which had the effect at least momentarily of adding a rotational component to his flight.

Kenshin's shot to the unarmored attacker knocked the individual back several feet with smoke coming from the still form.

Anne's shot at the Black Mindy's knee struck full on lancing the knee. The Black Mindy unleashed a volley of twenty mini-missiles from the two Offensive Augmentation Pods on its legs. Once launched the missiles quickly acquired the visible away team members and surged forward.

"Cover!" Yaeko yelled as she dove behind whatever she could find. Once she was covered, she popped up to fire rounds at the incoming missiles, making sure to duck before they would hit her. She also made sure to activate all of her shielding at full power.

"Come one guys, I need your help over here!" She called to the rest of Assault Team.

--------------------------------

The remainder of support team began picking off different targets, making sure to check identity against the VIP roster before firing. The three of them left the Mindy to Assault Team, since it looks like the others had that taken care of, and instead focused on any other targets that they saw.

"Done!" commented Elisto as he set the last charge and slaved it to a remote detonator and then moved over to Hoshi to check her work. "How it is coming along?" he asked and unshouldered a rifle while checking her progress to ensure she was attaching the explosives in the proper place.

"Finished!" Lynn called in answer to Elisto's question.

She leapt away from the ship, happier to be away from the armed explosives. She readied her weapon to fire, already looking for targets.

Silic's semi-controlled flight became an unmitigated tumble, he spun to the right and quickly had to flail to stabilize himself again. Then came the missile warning.

"Aw crap." Silic muttered to himself forcefully.

The jetpack thrusted to the side, jolting him sideways. He twisted in the middle and raised both arms, trying to get a bead on the mini-missiles before firing in their general direction in the hopes of hitting something as he fell through the air.

The missiles streaked past Silic as they were targeted against the other members. Silic's shot missed the entrance and any of the hostiles. It hit a collection of 55 gallon drums that were partially covered with a tarp. The drums exploded launching many of them flaming off in all directions.

The Black Mindy meanwhile took a position above the entrance behind a rock outcropping. This gave the traitor some extra cover from which to fire.

Silic impacted the side of the hill to the right of the entrance and landed on the ground dazed but unharmed.

From his close proximity he could hear something heavy coming out of the entrance.

The missile volley set off a series of explosions before and around the away team. Those not detonated by defensive measures detonated nearby but their destructive energies were absorbed by the Daisy's shields.

Elisto gave a nod of satisfaction before sending a message to Yaeko informing her that they were done and were awaiting new orders. "Come on, let's find some cover and wait for new orders," he said as he looked at the remote detonator in his hand and sought some cover behind some small crates, keeping his eyes out for any hostiles but also looking around for anything that might catch his interest as a SAINT.

As Kenshin touched down to earth, he sought some cover by a large chunk of granite not far from the enemy base entrance. The energy barrier projected by his Daisy flared to greater intensity as it absorbed some of the blast wave of the enemy missiles that exploded nearby -- though fortunately none hit him directly.

Poking his torso over the chunk of granite thrusting out of the dark earth, Kenshin once again aimed at an enemy target -- this time using his rifle and adding his own gunfire to that being directed at the Black Mindy and the outcropping of rock behind which it hid. His stream of weapons fire screamed through the incorporeal air as near-blinding flashes of light.

Silic watched in some surprise as the missiles totally ignored him in favor of his mates on the ground. This wasn't how it worked, how did he get so lucky? He was still pondering this when he noticed the hill approaching at an alarming rate.

Silic managed a short, cut-off yell before smacking into the side of the hill in a puff of dirt and a grunt. Then flaming barrels rained and laser weapons fire began peppering the dirt around him.

"Wait, guys! Wait!" he cried in panic as he tried to wave to his teammates before a flaming barrel full of fuel crashed into his back, spraying his suit with ignited fuel and sending him tumbling down the hill towards the enemy below.

Just beyond Kenshin's position there was large object under a tarp. When the missiles exploded the tarp was blown clear. A large object, perhaps some sort of missile. Although it was not of a configuration he'd ever seen before.

From the entrance a shadow emerged. It was over two meters tall and almost as wide. From it a female voice called out. "Throw down your weapons and we will be merciful."

Yaeko's head spun around as she tried to get a grasp of what was going on. Looking at the shadowy figure, she realized that it couldn't be any larger than their Daisies were, so it shouldn't be that big of a problem. However, the fact that it thought it could stand against the squad was enough to cause her to worry. Suddenly, she had an idea.

"Team, retreat to coordinates XX.XXX.XX. Scrapyard, here, now!" When she was done giving commands she took off. The coordinates would lead about half a kilometer away from the encampment, placing the ship in between them and the shadowy figure.

"Support Team, lay down suppressive fire while we move." She radioed over to their backup.

Once Elisto got near to her, she would say, "Scrapyard, when the heavy enemy passes by any explosives on the ship, blow them."

-----------------------------

Once they got the call Kayo, Akemi, and Cutter began laying down cover fire, focusing mostly upon the enemies near Silic to try and give him time to run.

As the tarp was blown away by the enemy missile explosions, which in turn lead to the exposure of the unfamiliar munition lying beneath it -- Kenshin's attention was momentarily drawn towards it. Considering the threat of the plague that the Tachibana had in their possession, Kenshin felt that the unknown devices presence warranted a mention to Yaeko.

After ducking out of the path of some returning enemy weapons-fire -- which shattered and melted large chunks of the rock that he was hiding behind, Kenshin then turned his gaze back towards the base entrance once given a moments respite from the enemy's attack. A massive shadowed figure loomed just beyond the threshold, too indistinct to properly make out at a glance. The yamataian's fixation upon the figure was interrupted by Yaeko, issuing new instructions to the squadron.

Munkata Yaeko said:
"Team, retreat to coordinates XX.XXX.XX. Scrapyard, here, now!"
As Kenshin fell back from his position and in the direction of the co-ordinates provided, the pilot fired several shots back towards the enemy. Simultaneously, he directed a message to Yaeko -- intent on informing her about the presence of the unfamiliar equipment he had discovered.

"Hunter -- this is Murasaki. I've got a fair-sized piece of unknown tech here that looks a lot like a missile or long-range projectile; though it's not one of any type I recognize. This is just a guess, but it might be intended as a kind of delivery system for the Tachibana bioweapon."

Anne could still see the Mindy taking cover on the ridge. Whatever was in the tunnel looked big, but it was still in the tunnel. That Mindy was outside and dangerous though so she took good aim at her. She started firing plasma bolts at it.

"Assault team, be advised, something big is coming out of the tunnel." She lasered to the Hunter and the rest of the team. Then she noticed Silic being on fire. Distance between her an the team was way too big. "SILIC IS ON FIRE!" She then shouted in the comms!

"Yea right.. and I'm the king of the Lorath..." commented Elisto when he heard the 'surrender now and you'll be spared' mantra, something he didn't believe one bit.

Elisto smiled though when he got Yaeko's message, and looked at Lynn. "Let's go," he said and crossed the area toward where Yaeko was, he then held the remote detonator in his hand and - using both his line of sight of the ships along with a drone that was now up in the air, he kept an eye out and waited for this new enemy to get close.

One of the launched burning barrels landed near the Black Mindy and exploded sending burning liquid everywhere on the side of the hill. Between the multiple attacks launched at her whittling down her barrier and collapsing her shields the burning barrel was enough to make her move to a new vantage point. She skimmed the surface of the hill and landing on the ground behind a pair of small SSCC's.

From the smoke a Ripper emerged. It was painted bright orange and the check area where typically an NMX brain would reside there was a translucent panel and a dark skinned Neko could be seen. The paint job was not professional, and the unit definitely looked cobbled together. It raised its arms and fired its Light Aether Cannons toward Yaeko, Elisto and its gauss cannon at Anne.
