RP: 21st Fighter Sq [Mission 6.0] Mists and Mysteries

Silic looked from one end of hall to the other, contemplating his fate. He looked at the door deeper into the enemy stronghold and shook his head. He ran straight for the outside door and slammed himself against it uselessly.

“HALP!” he pleaded fruitlessly to the scratched metal and tangled wreckage. No answer.

He turned around and faced the hall, still pressing himself against the door in pants filling terror. Everything was on fire, expect for himself by now. Why were these people using such volatile fuels and mixtures, this wasn't how modern technology was supposed to work.

“This hero stuff has its limits!” Silic shouted at the room before slowly heading towards the open door to peek out.

Several curses flew from Elisto's mouth, many of which he had never used before in his life, and was glad he wasn't broadcasting. He had pulled a few more wires, then found himself looking at the last wire, he traced it to what he figured was a piece of technology that the Tachibana put inside the 'missile' though he couldn't be positive.

Next, he traced the wire and found that it lead to the sphere and some device behind it. "Ok... here goes," he said and pulled that wire out.

"Aww hell... we've got incoming!" Kenshin shouted sharply as he dove into cover and out of the line of fire of the approaching enemy tank. It's gunfire beat against the rocky protrusion behind which Kenshin hid for several long seconds, before the turret swivelled away from his direction and turned its attention to the rest of the 21st Squadron and easier targets.

The young Yamataian pilot rose back out from behind the smoking, crater-covered rock and unleashed a barrage of plasma fire at the tank's turrent with his plasma rifle -- hoping to at least reduce it's anti-infantry capabilities.

Damn, Damn, Damn, Damn, DAMN! Yaeko started mentally screaming to herself. Why can't they just hurry up and die!? Looking at the tank, her temper started to flare up. She got the sudden urge to sprint at the tank and start slicing at it, although she managed to swallow the urge down. But from that urge, she devised a plan.

"Assault and Support, get behind some good cover and then distract that tank. I'm going in."

She gave her squad a few moments to get behind cover and begin firing before she activate her stealth systems and began sprinting at the tank, making sure not to don anything that would increase her energy output too much.

Akemi, Kayo and Cutter all commenced firing at the tank from their various vantage points. They fired in succession so as to provide a minimal window of opportunity for the tank to shoot at them.

------------------------------------------

Kenshin's shot damaged the turret mechanism. The turret was not longer able to rotate so it could only fire in the direction the tank was facing.

------------------------------------------

As Elisto removed the final wire, the whining ceased, and the missile stopped bouncing. There was a clink, followed by a poing, and the sphere was launched ten meters into the air. A height that would ensure if it hit the ground or the missile would shatter the containment.

------------------------------------------

The flames in the corridor continued supplied by air from the ventilation system. But the flame were burning less vigorously as they were greedily consuming the fuel.

As Silic approached the door, it was not open. But some how miraculously it has survived his rampage. There was no sign of physical damage to the sliding doors. Each door was 2 meters tall and 1 meter wide. They appeared to be designed to move to the side, most likely simultaneously.

Eyeing the distracted tank carefully, Yaeko finalized her sprint towards the vehicle and pounced. Jumping on top of the tank, she readied her weapon and began firing at the entry hatch, attempting to blast her way into the cabin and take out the crew.

"CRAP!" shouted Elisto as he tossed a panel from the missile onto the ground, he looked up and began to calculate where it would fall but there was no way to tell so he had to take a gamble and hope he was correct.

He looked around for a rock, or anything, that he could use to propel himself into the air. The lacking of a thruster pack would make this all the more difficult, but all he had to do was make sure he did everything correctly. He sent a brief message, so breief in fact that all it contained was:

Code:
sphere! sky!

He then looked at a rock that was nearby, and ran over to it, jumped and made an attempt to grab the sphere and, hopefully, land on the ground without it shattering in his arms.

Silic made out the doors through the cloying smoke and frowned, he didn't see two doors, he saw some nasty slicing trap contraption of some sort. Silic was taking no chances, he looked around for something to work with and found it.

Silic picked a loose fuel barrel, or whatever was inside the things that exploded, a miraculous survivor in the widespread destruction and bowled it at the door. The barrel rolling in an ominous path towards the obstruction, as it neared Silic aimed one of the energy guns in his arms and tried to fire. There was a protesting whine, Silic whacked it with his other arm and then it fired.

The bolt of raw energy pierced the barrel clean through and the explosion blew the casually standing Silic off of his powered armored feet. As the smoke not so much settled as mixed with the rest of it in the room Silic sat up and looked at the door again.

Kenshin's gunfire ceased briefly due to Elisto's brief, alarmed message. The yamataian's gaze left the tank and turned back towards the position where the soldier was repositioning himself in the hopeful attempt to catch the plague-housing object that had been abruptly ejected by the missile.

The young pilot looked on in mute horror, teeth clenched, hoping that his squad-mate would successfully catch the orb before it shattered -- unforunately, Kenshin was in a position too far away to successfully make a grab for the sphere himself before it would hit the ground.

Anne frowned from behind big boulder as tank appeared. That was too much for her and it seemed it was too much for the rest of the Diamonds. She called out communication screen with her AIES and linked with her Teisatsu. It was not very far after all.

Once link was established she put started the engines and set AI to fly to her location. It won't be pretty, but it should get here safely. She also needed to get in fast so she will be able to deal with the tank. Relying on AI for firing was too much to ask for.

Soon everyone could hear a blast of the fighter engines as lonely Teisatsu came into view above the ridge that Support team was using as their sniping point. Anne quickly flew up and dropped on the fighter, ejecting booster module of her Daisy as he opened cockpit and climbed in.

"Everyone! Get away from the tank!" She called out as she took reigns of her fighter and aimed its nose at enemy armoured vehicle. She was already trying to get firing solutions, but young Helashio could not fire because of the friendlies in the tone. Especially Yaeko who ON the tank itself.

Tank

Yaeko's barrage of weapon fire quickly reduced the latch on the hatch to slag. The hatch itself was relatively undamaged, and appeared to slide to the side to grant access.

----------------

Sphere

Elisto's athletic grab of the sphere was successful. When he hit the ground, the impact caused the sphere to shift. However it did not slip from his hold even though it came perilously close.

----------------

Base

When the smoke and flames dissipated enough for Silic to survey the results of his destruction; he found that the remnants of his fire bomb had slammed the panels of the door. The door panels were bent so much by the passage of the barrel that they would not open normally. There was however a gap that was large enough for Silic to pass through if so inclined.

----------------

Elisto

While observing the trajectory of the sphere containing the manufactured plague. Elisto would notice a plume of dark smoke rising from the side of the hill. Its position was such that it was not near any of the weapon fire that had been exchanged.

-----------------

Teisatsu

The Tank detecting the Fighter quickly surmised it was the greater threat and fired a volley of missiles at the fighter. Peppering it with several hits as the craft approached. Anne only just barely got into the fighter and the shields back up when another barrage slammed into them.

Noticing that she had successfully blown the latch off, Yaeko forced the hatch to the tank open and peppered the inside of it with fire. When she was finished, she stood and looked around at the chaos ensuing. Her visor was starting to get dirty, so she removed her helmet and shouted to the rest of the Diamonds.

"All squad members, report!"

Yaeko would notice that when the smoke of her attack on the crew compartment did not result in blood or gore. In fact there was no sign of a crew in the compartment. The tank continued moving heading towards Elisto while launching another pair of missiles at Anne.

"Saaaaaaaafeee..." Elisto said, as his voice trailed off, though it sounded more child-like than adult. He stood there, waiting to see if anything would happen, when nothing did happen he let out a long sigh of relief.

Code:
Sphere safe...

He sent to the rest of the team, then looked the sphere over for any damages before turning his attention toward something odd that he noticed while trying to grab the sphere. The smoke in the distance appeared out of place to him, he used his helmets magnification system to see if he could see anything of interest.

Code:
Hunter, I'm noticing something out of place, black smoke near a hill not far from us. I'd like to-

His message was only half sent, then cut off when he heard something behind him and turned to see a tank heading right for him. "Oh shit.." he said and took off running for the nearest cover. He hated not having any heavy weapons on him right now, and headed for a group of rocks that he could use to shield himself.

"Yikes!" Anne shouted as missiles exploded against fighters shield. Not to mention she almost fell. Now she was safely in cockpit and took reigns of the fighter. She was fully in control. Anne wanted to start firing, but Yaeko was on the tank, no to mention another few missiles fired against the Teisatsu.

"Persistent bastard!" Yaeko said, grinding her teeth. She made evasive maneuver to the right side, while she activated the countermeasure module and let it fire plasma shots against the incoming missiles. She also aimed her wavefront module at the tank and started jamming its targeting systems.

"Hunter with all due respect, get off that bloody tank!" She shouted. Anne was quite irritated by this moment. This whole mission as a embodiment of chaos. "This is what you get when you send pilots to infantrywoman's job." She thought for herself and swore out loud.

Yaeko looked up when she heard her name being called. When the hell did Anne get a hold of a fighter?" It didn't matter, activating her thrusters, she put as much space between her in that tank as she could, and she did it as fast as possible. Mid-air, she got a better sense of what was going on. There was chaos, too much, and she needed to get control of her squadron.

"Elisto, grab someone nearby and go check it out. The rest of the Diamonds, once Anne has dealt with that tank I want you all to form up by me, we need to get this situation under control."

"Got it! Spinner! You ok with me putting this sphere in your fighter? Don't feel comfortable lugging it around everywhere..." asked Elisto as he got up from behind his cover and ran behind several large crates.

The wave front module seemed to have an effect on the tank, as it started moving in an erratic fashion.

Akemi and Kayo opened up on the tank aiming at its treads as those were the move vulnerable to their weaponry.

---------------

From Yaeko's aerial perspective, she spotted what looked like a ESTV parked beyond a couple of camouflage covered SSCC's.

"Can't talk!" Anne replied to Elisto as she banked right and let one of the missiles streak by. It seemed the Wavefront module had the right effect on the Tank. Anne smiled and both her forward cannon at armoured vehicle. She then fired twice and kept firing till that was remaining from the tank was smoldering piece of scrap.

Silic frowned, the barrel hadn't been as effective as he'd hoped. Obviously some of this stuff was more potent than others. The gap was good, but it was still not enough for Silic at this point. Surely he could do better.

Quickly, another barrel was found and lobbed through the gap unceremoniously, this time a round of buckshot from Silic's shotgun doing the igniting. There was another boom, and another section of the base was filled smoke as Silic quietly peeked his head through and looked around.
