RP: 21st Fighter Sq [Mission 6.0] Mists and Mysteries

Kenshin instinctively tightened his hold on the aircraft as it took off. Whilst resisting the urge to look over the side towards the ground which was retreating further and further away, the pilot swollowed and tried to think of anything other than the growing knot of dread in his stomach.

This is NOT how you're supposed to fly, the young yamataian thought to himself with mild panic. To busy trying to keep himself attached to the ship, Kenshin sparred only a passing glance back towards the Tachibana base which could explode at any moment.

Errowyn was next to useless in the power armor, just another target and how she survived, only the dieties would know for they must've loved idiots who went beyond their capibilities that gave them laughter at their misguided antics.

She had gotten lost and her orientation computer gotten rattled. Radio, might as well be dead, for it recieved in bursts. She looked over the display board and there was nothing but yellows and red from multiple hits.

Errowyn paniced, feeling alone and outgunned, fled the battle back to her ship were it was familiar and she could work with something way more familiar.

After getting back to her ship and scrambling out of the almost useless Daisy. She set it auto-destructive charged and shoved it into a depression that would direct the explosive forces harmlessy into the air when it would explode. She ran back to her ship, climbed into it and powering up.

Once in her ship, she smiled as the feeling of security replaced the raw panic she felt in the Daisy, was fully powered up and preflighted, she took off and screamed for altitude and then dove onto the base, selecting targets for her aether cannon, sending leathel burst into the fray.

Wondering why, as she switched freqs, seeing that only two remained behind. Should she join with the ships? Or go help the two.

Once again without thinking, she wrote another check with her life as payment to blindly land as close to Anne and Silac she could.

"Come on! Hop on!" She yelled over to them over her coms. "Yooz ride is here!"

Elisto cursed; he hated being given options when it wasn't just his life on the line, he slowed himself down a bit to take in both paths. The left one might be a good idea, if it continued to descend like he could see.

The right one might work, but then again, so could the left. He rustled in his mind to figure out which would be best until he decided to take his gamble at the left path in hopes that it continued to descend.

"Yeako and others are leaving Silic." Anne said looking at the hard-working man. "Now it is just you and me. Do your best, I will keep looking for those things you needed." She then moved and started looking harder for anything of the things Silic asked for. Or just simple fire hose they could use to bloody cool the reactor even a little bit.

Anne would find a locker in the next room, that had an assortment of cleaning supplies, and there were extinguishers in the reactor room. The nearest fire hose was ruined in the main hallway, but another could be found in the room beyond that lead to the cargo area.

Shaking her head, Yaeko took one last look at the compound before she throttled forward. Pointing the front of the fighter towards their previous landing spot, she accelerated in that direction.

I swear to the Empress, I'm going to kill him.

She didn't look back.

As Silic looked into the consoles further, he would find a number of control boards that had nothing to do with the reactor had been tossed in and their wires tangled among the actual ones. The extra boards were purely a diversion to throw a person off track.

Behind the these extra boards, he would find the aforementioned mission controller for the control rods. It would be a simple matter to reconnect the controller unit. However the shaft to actual motor that drove the control rods was starting to glow a dull red from the heat of the core.

Silic wasted no time, he simply began ripping out bits and pieces that didn't appear immediately useful. The floor behind him became littered with various torn wires and circuit boards when something caught his eye.

He found what he was looking for and quickly reconnected the controller, the heat from the nearby motor singeing the paint of his PA's fingers. He crawled back out and pressed the button to see what would happen.

The status board showed the controller circuit was operational. However, when Silic pushed the button to lower the control rods, the motor started pushing the control arm and stopped and a groaning sound could be heard. The status display showed that the pressure on the control arm was rising, it was possible that the excessive heat was causing the shaft to expand and bind.

Anne did not wait for anything. She quickly grabbed the extinguishers and hauled them of to Silic. "Here you go for now! I will be soon back with fire hose!" She added and ran outside, trying to get the hose back into reactor room as fast as possible. She still had to be careful as they did not enter cargo before and there could be enemies there.

The armored yamataian wobbled in his spot upon the aircraft even as he held on for dear life. When the landing site for their collective fighters came closer, Kenshin began to become more relaxed as the insane hitchhiking hell-ride was almost over.

His thoughts turned back to Silic and Anne, who were still inside the base with the reactor about to go critical. As there was no mushroom cloud on the horizon yet, Kenshin was still holding out hope that they had or would somehow prevent or escape the blast.

Errowyn waited in her ship, ready to flee as soon as Silac and Anne showed up to hitch a ride on her fighter with it's more powerful thrusters, whether it was safe or not. She was ready to help them escape.

The status on the console showed that the torque on the control shaft was rising towards failure level. It would drop when the shaft managed to slip a bit through the joint where it was binding.

From behind Silic a figure emerged from the shadows. It was the Black Mindy, the exterior of which pockmarked with a an array of weapon scoring. A number of the large holes leaked a combination of blood and system fluids.

"Why don't you die." came a raspy female voice as she raised a Ke-M2-W2913 Aether/Scalar Submachine Gun in Silic's direction. She pulled the trigger and nothing happened.

----------------------------------

The path that Elisto had chosen continued to look better as he continued. Ahead the trail lead towards a man made opening in the side of the cliff face.

-----------------------------------

"Heitan to Fighting Diamonds. What is your status? We are in the middle of evacuating the SSS personnel as a precaution to a release of the plague." came Atsui's voice.

Elisto slowed slightly as he moved through the valley, but kept his speed up there just in case he needed to push it. As he came upon the cave opening, he looked at it and thought, and glanced partly over his shoulder for a moment. "Watch the cave sides please Hoshi," asked Elisto as he eased the vehicle into the cave, turning it's lights on and following it.

He heard his helmet's speaker hiss for a few moments and placed his hand against his helmet. "What was that...?" he asked Hoshi.

Silic pressed the button a few more times, just in case. When that didn't work he stood back and wondered just what the hell he was going to now. That was when Anne arrived with the fire extinguishers, and promptly ran out again before he could say anything.

"Time to get to work." he said rolling a fire extinguisher near his feet. The extinguishers were the right type, CO2, that contained an acid compound that should absorb some of the radiation in the reactor and slow it down.

The problem was that there was only one way to get into the reactor. Silic gulped and steeled himself before working at the lock the internal hatch. He hoped his suit would protect him, that was when he heard a noise behind him.

He spun just in time to see the Black Mindy pull the trigger. Silic clutched his chest in anticipation of the pure energy that would cut him down. Only to realize that he was still alive somehow. The two stared at each for a moment, their eyes dropping down to the gun and back to each other in tandem.

That was when Silic picked up the extinguisher at his feet and swung it at the Mindy's head.

Atsui said:
"Heitan to Fighting Diamonds. What is your status? We are in the middle of evacuating the SSS personnel as a precaution to a release of the plague."
After waiting for several long seconds for Yaeko to respond to the query, Kenshin answered for her because it appeared that the officer was too distracted piloting the aircraft to immediately answer.

"Numa-Taii, this is Murasaki. It appeared that the reactor for the Tachibana base was going to go critical, so Hunter ordered the squadron to fall back outside of the potential blast radius. For the most part, the squadron is now on route back to the position that we left our Kawarime fighters. Tin Man and Spinner were both unable to evactuate, and I assume they are still alive and inside the Tachibana base -- attempting to prevent the reactor from detonating. I am unaware as to Scrapyards present position."

The Black Mindy brought up an arm to try and deflect Silic's rage inspired bludgeon. She was too slow, most likely caused by the damage her armor had already taken. Silic's extinguisher slammed into her helmet, she and her armor fell to the floor in a loud crash.

Behind him Silic heard a loud groan, and then a hiss as the core started venting some steam. The control rod mechanism with a clang slammed into place. The status display showed, control rods engaged. Reaction decreasing.

---------------------

The person ahead of Elisto shined a lamp in the direction of the vehicle. Seeing the vehicle, he dropped the lamp and turned to run back down tunnel. Elisto had a glimpse of the distinctive brown uniform of the SSS on the person as he ran from the vehicle.

"Not good Heitan," Yaeko replied to the radio call. Pointing the fighter towards their initial landing spot, she sped off towards the rest of the fighters.

"Elisto, report in. Tin Man, you dead yet?"

Anne was dragging the hose behind herself when she heard some loud noise. As if metal hit another metal and it was coming back from where she left Silic. It sounded like something was hit and then crashed, which meant a fight. Silic was fighting with something. Anne let go of the hose and started running back.

Elisto winced when he heard the static in his helmet, he sounded a bit familiar but he couldn't quite make out what it was except that it was a message from the squad leader. "Say again Hunter?!" he shouted into his headset.

When he saw the SSS he wondered why they were running; he was a friendly afterall, then he dawned on him. Oh... right... he briefly glanced back at the cages and sighed. Yea, doesn't help I'm on a vehicle with cages on it, perhaps it spooked htem.

He spun the vehicle for a moment and began to move after them and shouted. When he was close he popped open the door and leaned out slightly and shouted. "Hey! Friendly here why you running?!" it was a rehectorical question that could've made him look like quite the idiot, but then, he had to wonder if perhaps there was another reason the person was running. Were they truly SSS? Or was it the Tachibana in disguise? His hand, hidden by the doorway, was close to his rifle just in case.
