RP: NSS Inquiry [Mission Two] Zero Tolerance

Polup

"Hell, if we can harry that AA enough, maybe the Yams can drop down them while we surround them." Alec piped in, his voice slightly cracking from heavy breathing. This wasn't the first time he saw combat, or even came close to death, but having his partner just bail on him while under fire left him in a somewhat frantic state. But that was besides the current point.

"You know, hit from every angle and all." He tried to a sound a bit more confident this time.

Adam had stood off to the side anxiously tapping his foot, he could smell the blood in his future and these punks were making him wait. He had removed his helmet, and in hindsight wasn't probably a great idea, as he listened to the ideas put out and it was obvious they all seemed to like the idea of guerilla harassment tactics to thin the enemy ranks but he spoke up anyway, "Listen, attack them head on and you send me and like two others who know how to move to hit them from behind. I guarantee that I...we, will lay waste to those punks before they even know it." He spit off to the side with annoyed contempt.

Group Huddle

Cadence looked around the team while they each spoke and took everything said into account, coming to the conclusion that, "Nelson is right; guerilla warfare tactics are necessary. I want Nelson and Shields in on the Eastern angle to the turret first. After a good signal from them, Corbin and I are going to move in from the East."

"You two," Cadence said, turning to the two SAoY personnel behind her, "Will be last in. Make it count. Stein and Edison will be sniping once the action starts. Find positions now. Shields and Nelson, you're up!"

At that, Cadence Newborn brought her hand low and gestured with some sweeping motions of her fingers for Alec to follow behind her towards the East, out of sight of the Northern forest.

Quickly Glynn responded, "Understood Lieutenant!" and then proceeded the face Linda at attention. Taking a deep breath, Glynn produced a "yellow" grenade from his kit before her.

"Sergeant, if you do not mind, I have a plan of my own regarding this subspace particle grenade within my possession. Based on my current knowledge, although non lethal, these grenades can temporarily blind enemy power armor and vehicles and create a sensor ping that the Lieutenant and Private Corbin can identify to signal their advance. Once we are in position, I can fire this grenade near the enemy and we can proceed to overwhelm them while the rest of the force advances forward."

Taking another breath, Glynn waited for Linda's reaction, and hoped it was a good one.

East of Ati-Air Turret

Linda made her way to the east as instructed, with Glynn following. When he mentioned the grenade though, she smiled behind her helmet. "That is a good idea, we'll work with that, while they're confused we might be able to take them out while they're distracted."

After those words, she sent a message of the plans to use the subspace particle grenade as a signal. She then found a good position for herself with her rifle loaded and ready, she also had missiles ready but not locked, in case there was lock detection.

"Roger that Lt." Stein said, switching on his camouflage and taking off through the trees. He scanned the are to find a good sniper's position. He found a very large tree abd clombed about half the way up and sat on one of the large branches. He cycled the bolt on his weapon and loaded a fresh magazine, before looking down range.

"I'm in position. Will begin firing on your go." He said sighting on the first target.

Group Huddle

"Aye, LT." The medic said with a nod before nervously following after Cadence as they began their flank. His helmet darted from left to right, his nervousness from the last firefight still fresh in his system as eyes scanned for something, anything that looked like it was getting into a shooting position.

"Hey Boss," He said a after a few moments of shifting silence, "How many Yams you think are around here? You think they brought a platoon to asst with the assault or, or just one squad to dick around with us?"

Adam merely grunted, his helmet hid his eye rolling from those around him. He prefered to be in the thick of things but he wasn't exactly in charge. He watched Stein move off toward the trees. He looked around as the others moved off to their assignments and simply stodd there a moment. He thought of this team, each doing as ordered, each knowing their own cog in the wheel. He admired that a litle even beneath his gruff exterior.

With a deep breathe and a half hearted sigh of frustration he moved off in the general direction Stein had taken and merely his his thrusters to attain a decent height. He was no marksman so while he could provide some asistance from this distance he was more useful keeping an eye on Stein's back. So he crouched on a hefty tree limb and did just that, his keen eyes darting around looking for those little notes. His past had made him a preator of man on the streets and so he had that certain knack for seeing the details that tol that he too was being hunted.

Perimeter of Anti Air Turret

In a double take, Cadence addressed Alec, "I don't know, but we're not going to let them get in the way of the objective. For now, keep your curiosity inside that head of yours until we get the debrief."

Within moments, the team successfully positioned themselves around the Anti Air cannon. The cannon itself was working overclock, targeting the sudden flood Yamataian ships. On the ground however, fourpower armored Elefirn soldiers calmly scanned the perimeter, failing to notice the Inquiry's team in their stealth power armor. Then the comms became live.

"Attention Inquiry team," - said the voice a gruff man "Your esteemed captain has called for an immediate extraction of all Nepleslian forces from the planet. Clear the area of hostiles and prepare to evacuate upon our landing."

Suddenly, the team's sensors began to act erratically, and heavy fire fell upon the Anti Air cannon from the east. The Elefirn patrolling soon took cover on the eastern side of the cannon and began to wildly return fire. Their flanks were shamefully exposed, while the cannon kept firing mercilessly.

East of Anti-Air Turret

Linda was ready for the assault, her finger just above the trigger but her concentration was interrupted when they received orders on comm, and before she could question command, artillery fire rained down across the projected battlefield. It was an impressive display, but it wasn't accurate enough to deal a decisive blow it seemed. So, in line with her orders, Linda lined up her AS4GS and began to fire at the Elefirn, with each squeeze of the trigger a heavy tungsten slug was hurled towards the chest plate of the aliens.

Adam had heard the new incoming orders moments before the shelling began. The display impressed him and he was thankful that he was going to get off this mud rock.

His position unfortunately was not a great one for the ensuing Carnage and so he did what he could to provide covering fire for his squad. He was no sniper, so his long shots were mostly for distraction and not really for any conclusive kills.

"This is Edison, laying down cover fire from the north. I will keep them on their toes as best I can," he said gruffly into his mic.

Perimeter of Anti Air Turret

"Aye ma'am." The private replied sheepishly as he followed along with the flank. His foot steps stopped as soon as he heard the exaction announcement before he instinctively ducked down at the sound of very close and very loud explosions rocked the ground.

"Talk about danger close! Someone tell them to give us a heads up next time before walk into another one of those!" He yelled over the bombardment before moving into position with Cadence and opening fire on the shattered remaining enemies.

Anti-Air Cannon

Within a moment of engaging the enemy, a large smokescreen of dust and smoke had appeared on the Elefirn's location due to the sudden bombardment, and just as fast it formed, it vanished. A massive gust of wind had swooped in and shoved aside the war-torn clouds, allowing their assailants to clearly see how dire the Elefirn situation was. They had managed to hunker down on what could be considered partial cover, most of it had been destroyed within a few moment's of Inquiry's assault. Due to their shoddy positions, they couldn't spend the luxury to locate and fire at Inquiry accurately, instead they opted to fire at the general area where Linda and Glynn were positioned, and where they were first fired upon.

However, as soon as the Elefirn were fired from their northern side did they truly begin to waver. Noticing that Adam was positioned on the north did they finally realize that they were flanked. One Elefirn soldier deftly jumped out of cover and fired at Adam in vain, the closest one of their projectiles managed to reach him had strayed several meters away. The only real indicator that Adam was being shot at were the sounds of trees being split a distance away from him, and the direction that specific solider was facing. From Adam's position, all four Elefirn were exposed, and he was confidently able to fire into the small cluster of enemies. Though the Elefirn had already begun to withdraw erratically the moment Glynn's ammunition depleted in a desperate attempt to evade Adams's sights, as a result some shots failed to connect, yet a few met their mark on the right shoulder of the solider firing at him, knocking that specific soldier off their feet beside another downed Elefirn. With a quick glance, it was obvious that both suits were barely functioning judging from the amount of sparks that flew off their frames, and from the fact that the one Adam had just shot was still moving. The other suit however looked like it hadn't suffered any physical damage.

The other two soldiers where barely anymore fortunate. As Glynn's ammo quickly depleted, they returned fire at him whilst trying to retreat to the southern portion of the anti-air cannon and use that as makeshift cover. However Linda was already ready for them to appear from their unfortunate positions. Taking the easier chest shots, Linda fired into the enemy. The first slug crashed down forcefully into the center of one of their frames, leaving a huge gash of metal and components. The second tore deeper into the power armor revealing more fragile-looking components like wires, dangling outside before the open wind. With that last shot, the Elefirn crumpled with it's lower half completely non operational, needing it to be dragged by it's more fortunate compatriot who managed to make it to the southern wall unscathed.

Meanwhile, Cadence's commandeering voice rang through Alec's helmet as the dust from the bombardment blew past them, "I see you private! Whatever you do, just keep on pushing forward, and don't stand still! We're going to be changing our approach from the east, and we're going to give them a hell of a time and open fire do you understand?!" With those words out of the way, Cadence's pace began to pick up, and then the entire squad was able to hear her, "I want everyone to get ready to push the anti-air! Alec and I are going to be approaching the enemy from their southern flank and get the total party kill. This cannon has to be taken down by the time everyone gets here so we can hold this position. I want a quick and easy extraction, is that understood?"

East of Anti-Air Turret
Linda mentally wore a smile as she analyzed the battle unfold, things went well, and the tides were in their favor. However the IGP operative knew better than to relax, it was when everything was going well that there was the most danger for things to go wrong. She continued to provide heavy fire onto the Elefrin to make sure they were distracted.

As she did such she stood up and used her HUD to target the anti-air with a salvo of DART mini-missiles.She had no intention of hitting the target, not yet at least there was the possibility to take it by force and use it after all. "Shields, we're taking the AA guns!" After those words, she fired off a salvo that would encircle the gun and strike the ground around it with explosions. While the missiles flew, she ran from her cover and rushed the turret, using an occasional thruster boost. to close the distance more quickly

Anti-Air Cannon

"Aye, ma'am!" Alec yelled out as the sound of combat intensified around him. In all actuality, he really didn't want to push. It wasn't the enemy that made him reluctant, it was the friendly bombardment that came in dangerous close that threw some doubt into his mind. The last thing he wanted was get a cannon blast dropped on his head.

But wasn't in much of a position to debate the issue. He followed his orders and pushed forward, his LCA screaming death and hellfire toward the enemy and their cannon. He had orders to throw caution to wind right now in favor of killing, and by golly is he going to follow them as he marched forward into the jaws of death.

The first shot fired at him caused a bit of a flinch, despite the range, but once he saw the shot go wide and feeble Ada knew it was over. He grouped his shots and smiled visciously as he brought down several from the resisting Elefrin. His actions became more aggresive as he shot and hearing the order to push forward was like a gunshot at the beginning of a race.

As if he had heard it already Adam lit off the tree perch and flew in a bobbing line at the diminishing Elefrin group. "Edison copies orders, you all take that gun, I'll take the rest of these pellet shitters," Adam said as he let off another grouping of shots. He intended to close the distance and show these critters how a Nepleslian skins a buck.

Anti-Air Cannon

The perimeter of the Anti-Air cannon erupted in gouts of muddled earth, and was once again shrouded by dust as DART projectiles made contact with the soil. Though their detonations were a relatively safe distance away from Cadence and Alec, it did not help disspell the possibility of something going very wrong during their turbid advance as rubble and debris ricocheted off their armor. Yet the pair eventually bursted from the fog in once piece, and encountered the cowering Elefirn duo taking cover on the southern wall. Taken by surprise, they were eviscerated by Cadence and Alec's sudden barrage in mere seconds, sending fragments of enemy power armor flying about.

Advancing forward, Adam found himself keeping track of the two disabled Elefirn soldiers and inferred their location past the fog before firing. The first shot pierced it and a small portion of the fog cleared up in the projectile's wake, revealing the two Elefirn struggling to lift each other up. The next shot widened the clearing as the two Elefirn ducked in response. The next one pierced the side of the Elefirn that Adam had the misfortune of not shooting immediately, sending her flying in the opposite direction. The last shot met it's mark on the cranium of Adam's first victim. The dust clouds rolled past the projectile's path, and masked the aftermath of that collision. He made his way forward, and saw Linda and Glynn hurriedly make their way towards the compound near his prey.

With Glynn lagging behind her, Linda broke past the remnants of what used to be the enemy line first, and surveyed the area. Alec and Cadence where within the distance of a leap, and the anti air compound itself was left in ruins. Only the cannon itself seemed intact, and with no apparent entrance at that. "Sergeant, how should we go about destroying the Anti-Air? I only have a few explosives left." Glynn asked as he paused behind her. Suddenly Linda felt something grasp at her leg, and with a quick glance identified the last living Elefirn soldier. With the little strength she had remaining and her sundered armor, she gripped Linda's leg. The Elefirn leered at Linda as she weakly tried to lift a rifle to no avail with a shredded, and bloodied arm.

The radio chimed in, "Second Lieutenant, I am moments away from arriving at the extraction point. How is the landing zone?"
"Enemy forces are down, and we are securing our position. We're taking the AA down as we speak, you will touch down fine." Cadence assured the shuttle pilot. "Adam, Alec! Keep your eyes on the tree line, and get into cover. If you got none, then make your own, and double time it!"

Anti-Air Cannon

The while not in any danger, the closeness of the friendly ordinance exploding next to him didn't instill much confidence in Alec in his push. What did fortunately instill confidence in the marine was the weapon in hands and the efficiency it has at cutting down the enemy. Each burst from his LCA just long enough to get a hushed swear word in as he advanced.

With the new orders coming in, Alec ducked behind a piece of wreckage around the AA emplacement as he eyed the tree line. an idea popped into his mind as he popped and laid fire into the treeline, not aiming at any enemy in particular. He was just focused mulching the tress, denying the enemy any place to seek cover.

Anti AIt Cannon

Linda quickly surveyed the surroundings as she arrived at the canon, a look of frustration showing on her face when she could not find a way inside. That frustration was quickly redirected however when she felt something grab onto her leg. If the Elefirn was a Nepleslian, Linda would've complimented her on her determination, but right now it was just a nuisance to her.

Without a word, the IPG operator pulled out their VCBS knife and drove it into the back of the enemy soldier. They did not have a need for a prisoner at the moment, and they probably wouldn't have let themselves be captured anyway. After twisting the knife once just to make sure it had the full effect, Linda straightened up and looked the enplacement over once more.

"We do not have time to try to carefully break in...I almost wish I had one of those Yam energy blades right now.." She sighed and then looked up at the barrel. "We just need to get rid of that, get the explosives on it and detonate it, that'll take care of it."

Anti-Air Cannon

With the pull of his trigger, the tree line burst open with death from Alec's fire. The trees cracked under the force of his weapon and wood chips darted away at dangerously high speeds. Yet from that destruction, it was clear that a lone figure seemed to wisp it's way around the carnage, dashing across the landscape in an attempt to avoid the flurry of shots fired by Alec. Though whatever it was, it did not seem to take hostile actions, and fire back at all. Instead it was dedicated to it's retreat, diverting all of it's attention to maintain their shields strong as they proceeded to flee away from Alec's range. From the way it moved, Alec was certain it was a straggling Elefirn soldier.

Glynn hopped to work by producing his remaining explosives out from their proper containers before responding, "Roger that Sergeant!" and promptly put them to use by placing them against the Anti-Air gun. Within a few seconds, the explosives were ready for detonation, "Explosives set, counting down for detonation, 3... 2... 1...!" The tiny package of explosives erupted with a great concentrated force as it bored through a large section of the wall. Yet the gun itself succeeded in keeping it's structural integrity, and kept firing. In response Glynn quickly stored his equipment and brandished his weapon to finish the job.

Meanwhile Linda was the first to peer inside the Anti-Air enclosure. A singular Elefirn soldier sat upon a small, cheaply made stool. It's head was encased by a large round helmet which was wired to a decently sized mainframe. With the quick scan of the area, Linda's Power Armor was able to almost instantaneously notify Linda that a foreign chemical irradiated the room. The Elefirn soldier in question took no notice of the sudden explosion, nor did it make any effort to move from it's current location.

Cadence radioed Adam, "Alright, private, you're going to be the first on that shuttle, and I need you to provide covering fire for everyone until we're all secured, is that understood?" as she lifted a large sheet of rubble like one would lift an ancient shield.

"Copy that ma'am, no trouble at all." Adam responded, quickly double checking his gear in the event he would need to fight of a surprise wave of Elefirn troops.
