Re: [restart point] Mission 2

"Testing?" Hinoto's ears perked up. "What if the Taisa never changed bodies?"

* * *

"I will be fine," Kotori gave Nyton a winsome smile. "I will send over the information about the Black Spiral's analysis of Melisson to you."

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

Yukari took the tea and gave Hinoto a small bow. "It is uncertain, how Sylvester-san is part of this. I was taught coincidence is rare in clandestine matters, and the nature of the Taisa's ability, no matter its nature, is not common knowledge."

She took a sip and smiled; the tea was a little black for her, but sweet. "The Taisa could, perhaps, still be in an NH-22M body that has been modified. But her physical strength is not as it was — if it were, the battle between the Mishhu and Yukisato-san would have been much different, and I would not have been required. Also, I know something of the Battle of PNUgen — the attackers, including the Taisa, were largely scathed."

Another sip. " ... The NH-22M was designed to take advantage of the three NH-17 models' strengths, including psionic warfare. It could be that, instead of wasting a body entirely, they could have cut out the Taisa's central processing core and put it in a NH-29S body. The core could have been modified from that point. Saito-Hei, do you believe I am thinking well?"

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

Nyton stood up and gave a slight bow. "Thank you. I will continue to analyze our enemy's intentions with all the new information we have acquired. I suppose I should be going now to get that ST done." he replied and began to step. As he walked he then had an afterthought. "Oh did you ever get your ST backup issue resolved?" he asked as though it were as trivial as a forgotten item during a grocery run.

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

Kotori shook her head no slowly. "I tried getting it done after my college studies. At least it confirms that the problem was not due to a malfunction or sabotage of the ST recorder unit aboard the Miharu."

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

Miyoko shrugged. "Possibly. It's usually easier to just make a completely new body from scratch than to do something like that, but there could be some experimental justification for it. If that were done, it might be evident under scanner inspection... but it would probably take one of the more experienced medics to tell. If the psionic abilities are derived from those of an NH-22, it might be something that we could disable long enough to get a backup done." The sensor specialist sighed, taking another sip of the tea. "... or, it might not."

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

Hinoto nodded slightly. "I was thinking that the test base of the NH-22M might have meant that it would be more easily reconfigurable. After all, the NH-27 had no problems replacing their SLICS connection with SPINE once the spinal interface became widely used. The Miharu is also a test ship, so, that's where I draw the parallel."

The white haired sprite leaned her head to the right side in thought. "Or maybe the original body could have been kept to leave the Taisa some way out? It's silly to build a fortress without an escape route, after all."

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

Nyton furrowed his brow. "Still unresolved? Most peculiar. If it was not our hardware then unfortunately that can only mean there is something in your body that is causing it." he said as he stopped in mid-journey towards the door. Turning around he then assumed his thinking position. "However given that nothing has been found to be wrong with you physically in any way perhaps this anomaly is not a malfunction but perhaps a side effect of your body." he theorized. After a second he could only shake his head. "Sorry but I can only speculate. I will inquire with Saito-Hei and see if she has made any progress on this subject. She was the last one who had been investigating into this phenomenon when it had originally occurred."

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

"Feel free," Kotori answered, nodding her approval. She did not seem too bothered with the difficulties she was apparently having in making her ST backup.

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

"Naturally," Serizawa replied coolly toward Asher, not particularly impressed by the soldier's bravado.

The scientist turned his light blue eyes back toward the control panel of the ST alcove and prepared it for the next backup.

When he finished with the machine, Serizawa turned toward the other members of the crew in the medbay and called out, "If you are not currently getting a physical, please come and get your mental backup done."

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

Nyton seemed slightly amused at the light tone Kotori was taking to this. However given the nature of the situation he supposed good humor would be preferrable over being overwhelmed by dread. "By your leave, Kotori-sama." he then said and exited the room.

Once on his way to the med lab Nyton stepped quickly since he figured everyone would be fairly close to completion. He then began to ponder on the possibilities for Kotori's ST situation. Realizing he would need more background information he decided to start with what he could. "MEGAMI, could you give me a file listing every single model of the NH series, starting from the very first one to the most current. Just float the data screen behind me, I'll read it as I walk."

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

Miharu made a textwindow appear listing the neko types and the variants of each.

"Careful not to stumble in the stairs," the computer warned.

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

Miyoko paused for a few moments before responding to Hinoto. "If her core really was transferred, leaving the old body alive would make sense. It would explain why there's no record of its destruction... but at the same time, I think we're getting a bit out on a limb here. We don't want to build too much on guesswork. However, if we can at least assume that this wasn't done to her with malevolent intent, if we can track down whomever is responsible, they'll likely undo it if possible. Making a Taisa inable to go through backups has to be some sort of thoroughly punishable offense."

She hesitated before adding, "... unless they had permission from the upper echelons, did it as an experiment, and are willing to endanger her life further just to collect more data. I'd like to think that we're better than that."

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

" ... We are an empire that manufactured, tortured and oppressed our own worst enemy. Anything is better than us, as a whole." Yukari took another sip of tea, but her eyes were far away. She lowered the cup from her lips, the chink! of the bottom touching the saucer enough to bring her back to the Miharu.

Her eyes found Hinoto. "The Taisa knows who our chief enemy is — Eve. We know Eve is a powerful and capable psion. And we know, from Saito-Hei's research, that the Taisa's mind is somehow able to redirect and repel psionic waves."

She turned to Miyoko. "We are mostly sure that this vessel contains no blackboxes of the kind SAINT alluded to ... except the Taisa. And we are mostly sure Karl Sylvester-Juni is involved. Somehow the Battle of PNUgen is also a part of the mystery, but how is unclear."

Yukari paused, then nodded. "Saito-Hei, you are wise. We have reached the point of estimation, and it will not further our investigation. For now, let us wait for the noble warrior to complete her communication with the man she spoke of. Perhaps then, we will know more."

Lowered the saucer and cup, Yukari looked to Hinoto. "Hinoto-san, please restrict this conversation from Miharu — hide it as best you can, as well as the communication with Kôsuka. We will return here as soon as possible after I hear from the noble warrior again. Agreed? Saito-Hei?"

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

Miyoko had to avert her eyes from Yukari at the mention of Yamatai's past offenses. It probably isn't good that the more I learn of my country, the more displeased I am with it. She lifted the cup and quickly tossed back the last of the tea to mask her expression from the Shosa.

She nodded at Yukari's question. "I think that we've done all that we can for the time being. Waiting a few days for facts will serve us better than spending weeks guessing."

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

Knowing Yuril was a Bit apprehensive about the ST Process, Kai stepped forward upon Serizawa's request "I'm ready for an ST, sir" he saidtrying to look unconcerned. Why Am I showing off in front of her? Do I really need to? he asked himself quietly as he stepped toward the alcove that held the ST machine.

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

"Understood. We are dismissed then." Yukari bowed slightly to Hinoto and Miyoko, then took leave toward the kitchen. She stored everything she had been thinking, guessing at, considering, all of it into a locked-up portion of her mind so she could think clearly about what to cook and how to cook it.

"Do you still want steak, Tom?"

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

Nyton opened the window and read it behind him as he walked. It was as though the window were chasing after him. Quickly, his 'eyes' scanned over it. "MEGAMI, this list is compiled of mass produced or specialized models. Can you bring up a list of all experimental, failed, or limited production models? The ones that would not normally be available to anyone that are not on this list."

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

"I don't have an especially good access to SARA information from here as long as I remain independent from PANTHEON," Miharu replied to Nyton. "Sorry."

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

Nyton could only mentally shrug. "I thought so. Just keep a mental note of that request. Next time you have access retrieve the data and let me know, thanks." he said as he arrived at the medbay.

Upon arrival Nyton then entered the bay and looked over at Sora. "Excuse me, Kohosei, I'm here for my ST update. Where do I stand in line?" he asked.

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

It took a long while for the Warrant Officer to calm down after her talk with Asher. The parting bit had really annoyed her greatly, but after a while of staring out of the Wardroom's Observation area, Masako couldn't help but wonder if she needed more work on talking to her subordinates. Sure, she had taken a class on public speaking...but classes and practical experience were two separate things entirely.

The young Neko couldn't help but sigh as she ran a four-fingered hand through her raven-black hair. "I guess I was just too disappointed in him," she mumbled quietly as she turned and began to head towards the Medical Bay. But maybe I expected too much from Westwood-Hei. He's still in the lower ranks of enlisted personnel, maybe he just isn't ready for the responsibility I'm looking from him. she thought as she soon entered the Medical Bay responsible for the Back-ups and Examinations, her face reflecting her deep thoughts.
