OOC YSS Sakishima Discussion

Hey, I think I asked this around page 39-40, but what date is it now, roughly? Yule Party in 12/35, so I assume the aliens attacked and held us through the end of that into 1/36. Then we went immediately back out to fight the pirates. So is this 1/36 or 2/36 or are we doing some of the 'hyperspace travel makes time wonky' stuff and we're now caught up in 8/36? Fits the summer vacation theme, I suppose. Asking since I was updating page for the audit.

I am just gonna say that most plots in Star Army run in what is called 'Comic Book Time'. For example, notice how Batman has been solving crimes since 1938, yet is still in his mid-thirties? At the same time, Gotham City has been dealing with topical issues all the while and having Christmas every year. Meanwhile, Batman remembers something Two-face said to him three years ago very well because it was only about thirty issues ago and he might've even still been dealing with the same missing little girl who given actual passage of time should now be missing teenager with an odd fascination for Justin Bieber.

Now, let's apply this to Star Army. For three days of real time, the Sakishima crew lived in a virtually constructed Old West. That took us about nine weeks to write and flesh out (Jan 22-Mar 26). We got into that trouble on the way back from our Christmas Party (two days of in-character time) which was shortly after a rather dramatic night-before-Halloween (one night of in-character time). The crew has probably lived a total of (including timeskips) three written months together TOPS, and at the same time we've been writing them for over a year-- a year in which we've encountered the changing seasons with them, dealt with the greater issues of the meta-plot, and made it home in time for Christmas Dinner.

Now, you have to ask yourself: "How does that even work?" What you don't have to do, though, is answer that question. In fact, trying to with anything other than the phrase, 'Comic Book Time' is only going to make your head hurt.

Another good handwave is 'It's always Summer on Hanako's World!' and you'll find it printed on some of your travel brochures, I'm sure.

I understand all of that. Really.

But the site still has a 1 to 1 setup for the SA calender and the real life year. While we can be doing anything at any time up to 8/36, we couldn't be in 1/36 and be using our pay from 7/36 or reacting to news from 6/36. If we have another Yule Party then Anzu will be a year older by then, even if that really has no bearing on the plot. I'm bringing this up because of the Plot Audit...when is exactly when I bought it up last time.

I always update my character's pay to real-time figures on the occasions I can be bothered to do it. When I first started on SARP, I put every single milkshake on my character's expenses. Now I mainly consider the large purchases. As for reacting to news, I'd say that it should be fine based on previous experience but Gunny has the final word on that and he is currently gone... Eh, I think the safe option is to just say "YE 36", update your pay to today's date based on the date of your first post and leave it at that.

Daisuke being with us is fine. Up to Lam on that one :p

Yes its most definatly comic book time :p best way to avoid confusion and insanity, as Lam explained.

Yes feel free to do stuff on your own Vsande :)

I may be able to do a post myself here today depending on how things go, otherwise will be bacfrom my trip on Wednesday or Thursday

Wes: bad, no poaching my players while I am on vacation

Its a bug in the forum code. I dont get notifications for half the plots I'm in all the time. Just check in on the boards and you'll be good :)

That might work too :p

Hello Lamzor. How's you?

P. S. Starting back for home tomorrow, be bsck to full posting capacity in about 2 days

Hello! Welcome! I really like the picture!

I noticed Suzue is four years old. You might want to lower that a bit. It would be odd for her to have served for 3+ years and never gotten a promotion. Also, it's YE 36 now, so that would (most likely) put her being created in YE 32. But, as the name gives away, the Type 33s weren't made until late in YE 33. Unless you were going to write up a whole backstory for that stuff, but it's usually easier to play a Neko with little history if you're just starting out. Just a suggestion, this is one of the things I always check and comment on.

Everyone is being dropped off by bus at a hotel. So you could easily have already been dropped off or be on the bus that just arrived, with Anzu and Yuu.

Ah okay did not know that about the year they were made, I wanted her to be highly trained, and the guide says 3 is the maximum age of fresh out of training, and the fourth year was spent on a ship where she saw maintenance experience but no combat, see also, uninteresting skill building. I have changed her to 2, around 2 and a half really, but that's a year and a half training in her field and a year of uneventful service. If that still would imply she should have advanced already then I'll make up some sort of story as to why she held back from advancement.
