RP: YSS Genesis [Episode 2] A Maiden's Voyage

The Genesis seemed to think for a while before responding. Although Miyoko had this odd sense that the AI had come up with the necessary information the moment it had been asked, it seemed to be taking on the human-like tendency to pause in thought before answering, likely picked up from observing the crew.

"I believe you are to be the main science officer on the bridge, and you are also tasked with helping the Princess in learning all the operations of the bridge, including yours. In addition, you may be called upon for other duties which I have not been informed of yet. If you would like, I may query Miss Merkur, or Mister Larai, for more positive information."

Soon Afterwards, Miyoko would her the noises of several persons entering the bridge- If she bothered to look, she would find Rikou, Masami, Seth, Sierra, and a couple of other bridge crew making their way to their stations. It seemed that the crew's free time would soon be up.

************

At the same time, the AI was answering Shinon's own Query.

It simply replied with a short text message, and a map.
Code:
Yoko is Located in the Machine shop, making her way into the Maintenance shafts. She is escorting The Head of Security and the Quartermaster on a tour of the facilities.

Evelyn had, somewhere, found a swivel chair. Boredly she spun in it, unsure of what more to do. There were new crew, sure, but someone needed to be ready in the medical bay in case of emergencies. With only her and the doctor aboard, she'd have to work with her new superior on some sort of schedule on who was on duty for the bay and when; Evelyn had nothing against sleeping in the bay, but it would be nice to retire sometimes to her own cabin, nearby...

Evelyn threw a hand out to stop her spinning and caught what she thought was a bed. Had she staked out a cabin? Realization struck her like a hammerblow: first, the swivel chair kept spinning under her despite her hand, and she hadn't picked a cabin close to the medical bay!
The chair swiveled out from under her, flipping her over so she could face-plant on the floor.

The groan wasn't only for the mild pain.

Leaving a note behind to show she'd be back in only a couple of minutes, grabbing a list from the AI, and gathering her things, Evelyn quickly bolted toward the only available cabin left -- unfortunately on the other side of the ship from where she wanted.

"Looks like I'm going right back to the shafts. What's the point of leavin' a mining ship and going back to work crawlin' in tunnels for the Yamataians?" Spencer thought, kneeling to examine the width of the tunnel.

"Maybe you oughta go first, Garlic," Spencer suggested, "I'll go in behind you backwards, so's I can lead us out if we have to get out before you get to a spot where you can turn around."

The aging Nepleslian turned to gauge his Abwheran compatriot's reaction while he dropped his duffel on the floor and removed his coat. Weathered fingers pulled the hat off by the brim and adjusted the waistcoat before Spencer pushed his Datapad into the front of the vest, where it would sit unmolested by loose wires and conduits worming their way through the corridor.

Shook his head. "Like I said: I'm not goin' in there." There was no need for him to go in there, let alone the right amount of space for a creature of Rüd's magnitude. He didn't want to toy with the idea of getting plugged up in those damned tunnels- just thinking about it was worrisome enough. "I've already seen what I need to see, but if you like I can wait for your return. Still need to sort out that armory requisition."

For a brief moment, silence came from the open access tunnel.

"What d'ya mean you'a not comin in?!" Came a questioning, shocked and overall incredulous voice. "Oua real work's done up ahead in a lil' compahtment," she explained to the Abwehran, calling out to him. By now, Yoko was more or less several meters in - though she could turn around within the 3x3 foot passage, the Nepleslian raised Geshrin merely looked over her shoulder, only to see their feet still lazing about by the entrance. "Thea's no real reason to get Spenca in hea - it's supposed to be a security toua foa you afta all, yaknow?"

A brief moment of silence came from Yoko's end before she spoke again, "Rüd? You'a not scared of the dark, are ya?" the Head Engineer questioned, with a hit of amusement.

They could practically see her grinning by the sound of her voice.

Rüd sat on his heels so he could see Yoko and have a more proper conversation. "I said I'm not coming through. I've seen what I need to see. Maintenance is your business. I just make sure everyone behaves safely, securely."

Spencer unfurled his jacket and slipped his arms back through.

"Hell, I'm with Garlic." He said, "Much as I would love to crawl around in a little hole with a pretty little girl, this ain't exactly what I had in mind when I decided to love that. Specially if there ain't nothin' t' see."

Next, he gathered his curly brown and grey hair into his hat again and started to arrange the bits that stuck out. Soon enough, he was orderly again, and pulling his datapad back out.

A grunt was their reply, as faint scuffling could be heard down where Yoko was at. The Geshrin managed to twist and then turn around in the small space to crawl back out without snagging on anything. "Well as much as I'd like to see yous all squirm in thea, I guess that's alright," the engineer sighed, making sure to brush herself off. "If we'a not gunna do that, then what's next?" she asked the two.

"I'm not shua I got anythin to do now that the toua's cut shoat, yaknow?" Yoko explained, placing a hand on her hip and relaxing.

Tani sat down thanking Amethyst for the cup of tea. She listened thoughtfully to her talk about the machines that she herself was to pilot. It was odd to think of them as more then pieces of gear. Tani was taken back when Amethyst asked what her life’s passion was. “I… uh… Don’t know I guess, never thought about it. I know I’m a solder, and a PA driver, a member of the SAoY, but past that I don’t know.” She sipped at the soup as she thought more on the thought.

"Beer." Spencer suggested as he pulled the datapad out of his vest and returned it to his duffel. "Show Spencer where he can get the beer on this heap."

Amethyst smiled warmly at Tani, her left arm laying on the edge of the table, leaning on her right eblow, slouching and hanging inbetween her shoulders a little bit as she pointed and waved at Tani with her chopsticks as she began to speak,
"That is true, you're very fresh to existance! But you are also filled with knowledge, training and ideas, more so then a Nepleslian could ever comprehend in his or her first few years of life. Who knows you might end up becoming the owner of a pudding shoppe! Or maybe you want to be the very best PA driver there is? Surely you have a goal or desire that drives you to keep you going, something that you wake up for in the morning?" She asked extenstively and exhaustively, taking a moment, giving her tea a sip and then followed by scooping up the bowl with her left hand, and leaning down to it, to gobble up some sticky chunks of rice with her sticks.

"A beah?" the engineer asked with surprise.

"Yaknow, I wouldn't have been askin about stills an shit if I wasn't worried booze wasn't allowed on this boat" Yoko pointed out, shrugging. "I mean, we all kinda know the cats can be real bitches on thea worst days and hawt lovahs on their good ones, so it's all up foa grabs when it comes to teh rules."

"If we do got anything to drink though, I'm guessin the mess?" the Geshrin suggested.

While Amethyst and Mako spoke, the cook from behind the counter approached them, carrying a teapot in his hands. He was an interesting contrast. His gruff face looked aged, but his eyes spoke of something more like a lust for adventure. His apron and shirt, while brand-new, sported the stains of someone who wasn't the most neat of cooks, though there weren't enough to make him look a slob, either. The man stopped next to the duo, and asked "You two new here?" before looking at them, and realizing he had come for another purpose as well. "Oh, wait, where's my manners? Would y'like some more tea? Name's Ben Counter, but people call me Geiger." He put the teapot down on the table and proffered a hand for a shake.

Shinon took a quick shower and proceeded to dress hersel in one of the working uniforms. She looked at the pistol on her desk for a while, but decided to keep where it is. There was really no need to be armed on this ship. She needed to talk with Rüd and wanted to see Yoko. Her stomach though let out a sound of protest. She did no eat for a while so might as well.

Shinon stepped out of her room and walked to mess. She noticed Amethyst and Tanka talking to ship's cook. She walked towards them with smile on her face.

"I see I am not only one who was hungry." She said when she got to their table. She already met the cook during the week they waited for others. "What's on menu today Ben?" She asked.

Tani Mako sat there thing over what Amethyst just said. It was a very good question, but the basic fact was she didn’t know. She was about to tell her that very fact when the Cook walked up, and introduced himself to them. Tani smiled and shook his hand, “More tea would be lovely, and the food is good, thank you.”

She noticed Shoi Maverick walk over. As Tani stood up to bow she knocked the tea pot and tray and sent it flying across the room. “Oh hell… I’m so sorry,” she said as she tried to bow and recover the tea pot at the same time, only succeed to slip on some of the tea and ram her head into a table, and fall flat to the ground groaning.

"Alright then, let's go sling around to that Mess and solicit some beer." Spencer suggested. Well, it seemed more like a demand than a suggestion, but everything else he said seemed so matter-of-fact it was hard to tell.

Shinon's smile kind of froze on her lips as she saw what transpired in front of her. She would never expect such a reaction. Apparently Tani forgot about the fact that ranks did not mean much on board of Genesis. She sighed and bent down to help the poor neko on her legs.

"Relax Tani." She said in nepleslian, because she was not sure if Amethyst speaks yamataian. "Are you okay?" She asked when she helped neko get back into her seat and then crouched to recover the tray and teapot from the ground.

Ben Counter said:
The man stopped next to the duo, and asked "You two new here?" before looking at them, and realizing he had come for another purpose as well. "Oh, wait, where's my manners? Would y'like some more tea? Name's Ben Counter, but people call me Geiger." He put the teapot down on the table and proffered a hand for a shake.

After Tani greeted the man Amethyst took to shake Ben's hand "Amethyst, nice meeting ya. Thanks for the hospitality. More tea would be lov-WOAW!" She yelped out as she suddenly saw Tani create a scene. Shinon's presence apparently called for a jumpy and much too elaborate greeting. She managed to dodge most of the tea by scooting out of the way on her seat and then stared in bewilderment as Shinon helped Tani back up. 'So she's supposedly qualified to operate a power armor... better make sure there's a 'clumsiness stabilisation unit' in Tani's PA' she thought to herself with a slight grin. Getting up out of politeness and helping a little by cleaning up some of the spilled tea with the napkins that came with her food.
Checking Tani and Ben if they were alright. "You guys ok? No burns?", she asked.

After which she nodded in greeting at Shinon "Good to see you here as well, hope the increased chance of 'death-by-tea' won't scare you off too much. Pick up some food and join us, if you dare!" She said before scooping up some more rice with her chopsticks and taking a sip from her miso.

Tani took Shinon’s hand and stood up. She muttered, “Sorry about that I forgot about not needing to bow here.” She was blush red, today was not going well at all. She sat there at the table trying to come with a way out of there. “Uh… Would you like to sit down with us? We were discussing life ambitions.” Tani quickly looked down at her food and tried to herself between her shoulders. 'Why the hell I’m so damn clumsy? I’m a built being; I ought to be more graceful.’ She thought as her expression continued to grow darker. Then, as quickly as her mood had turned grim, she lighted up in a smile “You guys want to hear a Crude joke?”

Shinon sat herself at the table after she picked up Tani'S tray that ended on the floor. She still had pleasant expression on her face. A smile. She looked at Tani who seemed rather displeased with what just happened. Not that Shinon could blamce her. It was rahter embarassing display after all.

"A crude joke eh?" Shinon said with a curiosity in her voice. "Well why not. I can always use a good laugh."
