RP: YSS Eucharis [Mission 14.3] Aftermath

Ramiro managed to ignore the cold as his head scanned for his position among the crew. He gave himself a confused look as he realized he was at the dead center of the crew formation. This expression disappeared the moment he snapped himself to attention, thumbs placed on the seams of his uniform.

How did I get this far down? When I left for UX I was second right behind Sune. Guess that's what a non-combat position does. It screws over your rank advancement.

Takeyu stared about the area, he was used to cold due to serving aboard ships for all of his life, ships that lacked climate controls and thus were always cold.

He looked around for his spot in the rankings, which wasn't that hard to do given his rank and position. As he got into position, he closed out the log he had been writing up in his digital brain and awaited for what would happen next.

Hanako waited for everyone to get themselves in the formation and then called everyone to attention before reading the orders aloud:

"Attention to orders:

1. On this day it brings me great pleasure to reward the continuing service of my dedicated crew through these dangerous and uncertain times. The trust the Star Army and I place in their valor, loyalty, and professional excellence continues to be proven and I hope that they continue their path of growth in skill and character. In view of these qualities and demonstrated, battle-tested leadership I am promoting them as follows...

Jalen Sune, you are hereby promoted from the rank of Taii to the rank of Shosa. Your leadership and assistance are invaluable.

Nayacesen Takeyu, you are hereby promoted from the rank of Itto Juni to the rank of Shoi. Your bravery is only matched by your skill.

Valencia Ramiro, you are hereby promoted from the rank of Joto Heisho to the rank of Nitô Juni. You are selfless and fearless and cool in any situation.

Kuroshi Victory, you are hereby promoted from the rank of Santo Hei to the rank of Nitô Hei. Since we rescued you, you have become an important part of the crew.

Koga Akemi, you are hereby promoted from the rank of Santo Hei to the rank of Ittô hei. Welcome again to the crew and I hope to have you with me for a long time.

Nathaniel Kygra, you are hereby promoted from the rank of Santo Hei to the rank of Nitô Hei. Stay active, Nathaniel.

Tachihara Reika, you are hereby promoted from the rank of Itto Hei to the rank of Jotô Hei. Let your expertise shine! As an intel specialist I expect a lot out of you so don't disappoint me!

Signed,

Ketsurui Hanako
Commander, YSS Eucharis."

The Shosho smiled. "At ease. Congratulations, everyone," Hanako told them, clapping her hands. "Sune, please come up here and announce the medals everyone has earned."

Ramiro waited patiently and smiled when his name was called. He took the compliment from Hanako as a great honor, and it was apparent by the grin on his face. Nito? Not bad, I only expected a Santo out of this. When given the proper command, Ramiro adjusted to the at ease position, with his legs at shoulder width and hands behind his back. He then proceeded to applaud along with Hanako in order to congratulate the other crew members on their promotions.

Ceremony served as a sufficient reason to break away from a task for Helen, and it resulted in her attendance at the promotion ceremony, where she observed and listened, since those which were promoted were likely useful individuals to keep track of for later use. Once the names were announced, she paid mind to the medal announcements. Her feelings about awarded medals were mixed, there was a commendation for just about anything a soldier could do, likely, there would be one for scrubbing toilets efficiently, given another few Empresses and a slump in war. None the less, she was attentive.

Sune moved up and stood next to Hanako,

Akemi's face remained solemn as each of the promotions were read aloud, including her own. While she listened to Hanako and Sune speak she adjusted her stance as directed. She was very pleased with what had been announced, but she did not dwell on it. Instead, she thought of Victory and Pineapple who she had just walked by a moment ago. She was eager to find out if after the ceremony she would be assigned a specific task or if she would be free to go and help them. She did not feel right enjoying herself while her seniors were hard at work.

"On the command of fall out," Hanako ordered, "return to the ship. Fall out!" With that, Hanako gave Sune an appreciative pat on the back and immediately walked over to the CRDM where the KFY repair effort was based.

"Shosho Ketsurui!" a middle-aged man in a jumpsuit said, standing up from his desk as she entered. On the table were datapads with blueprints and a cup of hot cocoa.

"Can the ship fly again yet?" Hanako asked.

The engineer scratched the back of of his head nervously. "Ah, you see, we are not nearly done yet..." he tried to explain.

"Is the armor replaced?" Hanako asked.

"Yes, Shosho."

"Is the anti-gravity functional?"

"It should be."

"Do we have full engine functionality?" Hanako inquired.

"We replaced all the engines," the man replied.

"Weapons?"

"All operational."

"Are the power systems operable?"

"Yes, but the pylon power conduits need replacement."

"Are they still usable and is it possible to replace them outside of a repair facility?"

"It could be done, yes," the engineer explained. "The damaged power conduits should be usable but dangerous."

"We will be departing soon then. Please recall your technicians," Hanako ordered the engineer.

Hanako then returned to the Eucharis.

On her way back to the ship, Akemi stopped for a moment near Takeyu and congratulated him, calling him sir as usual. She waited briefly in case he wished to return the gesture and then went up the ramp and headed to her room. There she changed out of her formal clothes and into her bodysuit. Afterwards, she returned to the cargo deck. "Excuse me," she said to get the attention of the sprites. "Good morning Nitô Heisho, Nitô Hei." She gave a shallow bow to the two of them. "May I be of any assistance?"

Takeyu gave a bow toward the Shosho as he fell out of line and then returned Akemi's gesture and thanked her. He started walking back toward the ship, his mind settled on assisting with repair work and doing what he could to get it ready.

Code:
Akemi-hei? I may have need of your services later on to assist in the repairs of the ship. So if you can standby please for repair tasks, I'd apprieciate it.

As she fell into formation with the others and throughout the whole ceremony Reika's expression was mostly passive, even up to the point when Hanako instructed them to return to the ship. Inwardly though, she was rather pleased about her promotion and glad that the achievements of her fellow crew members had been recognized.

On route back to the Eucharis' cargo hold, Reika recalled Hanako's instructions to Shosa Klein and herself back in the wardroom -- tasking the pair to sift through the Miharu's logs and look for pertinent or valuable information. In pursuit of this task, the young operative stepped in beside Helen and queried her politely.

"Klein-Shosa -- In regards to the job the Shosho assigned the both of us earlier, how were you thinking we should divide up the work-load?"

Sune followed Hanako into the CRDM, he listened quietly to her discussion with the repair team chief. Rush the ship back out? Without proper repairs being completed and a resupply? It makes no sense.

Halfway to the Eucharis he spoke up. "Ketsurui-Shôshô, permission to speak freely."

"Of course, Sune," Hanako said, looking up at the ship as the KFY technicians began to make their last-minute fixes.

KFY - Kyoto

Sune looked around to make sure that the crew had moved on. He took a moment to gather his thoughts. "Ketsu... " he started, then restarted. "Hanako-Chan, forgive me for saying so but this is a mistake. The Eucharis is in no shape to head out. Taking her out like this will seriously jeopardize whatever mission you have planned."

"The ship is usable," Hanako argued. "The electrical issues can be repaired in space or at our squadron starbase. I would love to stay and rest at Kyoto but we belong out there with the stars bringing this war closer to a close."

"Usable perhaps, but far from Serviceable. The last time the Eucharis had a proper repair was after the first battle of Nataria. Since then its been quick patch, remove damaged primary components and slap in new ones. The Eucharis is not anywhere near operating at her prime. Our combat effectiveness each time we have gone out has been less and less. And its not because of the primary systems. Its the secondary and tertiary ones that are crippling the ship. Because we can not depend on them when we need them. Capacitors blow out at critical time. She deserves better than to be rushed out. We have no supplies worth mentioning, so any away team we deploy is ill equipped for the most basic mission. And medical is only supplied from a few medical kits.

We have a good crew, and the Eucharis is a fine ship. She's been gravely wounded this last battle and like any other soldier in the service. She deserves to be put back to her best."

"Sune, the ship is a machine. She is not my first ship and she will not be my last. If being hard on the ship or destroying the ship is what is required, then I am willing to. A full refit or rebuild would take weeks and the resources of Yamatai are already under immense strain from the battle. Our ship can still fly and fight. If we aren't using the ship we are not doing our job. Our technicians should not have to lean on KFY to switch out wires or fine-tune the engines, and our supplies, while thin, have been adequate and there is nothing holding us back from ordering more through Star Army Logistics," Hanako defended.

"Technically, myself and every Nekovalkyrja are machines. But when I was the medic for the ship, I would have been remiss if I did not do my best to restore them to full combat status. There are parts of the ships, that a shipyard is better equipped to get to. We have gallons of sea water in the lower section causing who knows what kind of corrosion. I'm not talking about weeks. I'm just saying give the people with the tools and facilities, twenty-four hours to do their best. I know you have lost other ships, and if necessary the Eucharis will follow the same, but if we are to help bring this war to a close. We need to be able to rely on her to take the kind of pounding we can expect. The Eucharis gets hit harder than any ships in the fleet. Because she is recognized as a threat, because she is your ship, and between her and the crew. We do whatever it takes to win." he countered.

Hanako remained impatient. "If we run into issues we have our own shipyard in the Ikoi. All the major systems are ready to use save for issues with the CFS caused by the power conduits in the pylons, and that is something our technicians should be able to fix on their own."

"As your First Officer, it is my responsibility to share my concerns with you in private, and support you in front of the crew. I have voiced my concerns, thereby fulfilling my responsibilities."

Hanako frowned, her golden eyes looking into his. "I will give the KFY techncians six hours to replace the main power conduits. That should clear the last of the big issues and the techncians can handle the smaller ones on the move."

Sune smiled at Hanako's concession, "That will be fine then. The Main power is our weakest point. I will use a portion of that time to take care of some errands, including acquiring supplies for the medical lab. I will also see what logistics has in the way of power armor modules and munitions for them. Though given the current situation, I'm sure the pickings will be slim. But I do have some experience from the Bouken at trading, so I will probably use other sources."

"Thank you. Feel free to recruit some of the crew to assist you. I am also willing to help with finances," Hanako offered.

"That would be a big help, with the recent events I'm sure that the prices will be higher than usual."

"We should try to let Yamatai's civilians have the available food while we can use our stocks," Hanako suggested. "Command is already working on agriculture-based colonization missions."

"True, with Hoshi no Iori in ruins, food is going to be scarce. If we have to use rations, that's fine. The sources I will probably need to use for our medical are ones that normal civilian agencies would not use so we will not be impacting the civilian facilities. I will look for volunteers. I would like to upgrade to the new Minkan form, but I do not know if the facilities will be available after this event."
"Is the medical lab able to make the bodies?"

"The bodies yes, but Charisma would need to be updated with the accompanying new security system for any Minkan we make to have the new Security feature active. The procedure for updating her is not lengthy, the KFY techs can probably peform it while they are conducting the repairs. The bodies are serviceable without the Security feature but limited in accessing the new protocols. I can ask the technicians to take care of it while they take care of the other work if you wish."

"Very well," the Shosho nodded.

Sune gave a slight bow to Hanako and set off to the CRDM to talk to the technicians. He sent a message over the crew's communicators.

To: Eucharis Crew
From: Jalen-Shosa

I need a couple of volunteers to come with me to acquire supplies for the ship.

Akemi mentally accessed her communicator as it notified her of new messages. After reading them she spoke once more to the two sprites. "I have just received word that Shosa Sune is in need of volunteers elsewhere. I believe I will be of more use helping him so I will go to assist him. I apologize for retracting my offer right after making it."

Akemi left the ship and headed to Sune's location. While doing so she replied to her messages.
Takeyu:
Code:
Certainly sir. I would be delighted to assist you in any way I can, however, right now I plan on helping Shosa Sune acquire supplies.
Sune:
Code:
I will gladly assist you sir. I am heading your way now.

Another ceremony to recognize performance, another time of being looked over. Over the course of Helen's career, she had become used to the notion of her labors going without notice, and it left her to step away from the ceremony without much care as to the way it went. She was not there to earn fancy ribbons and glittering prizes, she was there to do a job.

Helen fell into stride with Reika, as she was approached by the freshly promoted SAINT. Since they shared the same branch of service, and she had good reason to approach the Shosa, Helen decided to ignore the matter of how casually she was approached. "Divide the workload? Mm... I intended to conduct an interview with one of the Miharu crew members, however, at this rate I am unsure that I will have the time, the Shosho seems to be chomping at the bit to get her ship back in space. For now, let us assume that I will not have the opportunity, in which case, I will handle the review of classified materials, while you handle general log entries and unrestricted data. I will also be handling the review of data from past encounters with the NMX, which will likely dominate the majority of my time outside of typical duties. Due to the extensive time which the Miharu was in service, I assume this process will take an extensive amount of time, even if we were to link directly through PANTHEON and conduct an in-OS review."

"However, even if it will take an extensive sum of time, we might as well lean into it. Report any findings of interest to me in person, at any hour. Then we shall integrate that information into the overall intel picture." Helen instructed, as they strode through the cargo hold, and into the rapidly mended ship.

Hakujou had left the commendation ceremony early, it was a pointless bravado and needless ego boost for fleeting lives that don't understand the extent of their own mortality. Instead she had returned to the ship, and her new laboratory. Evading some of the repair crew on her way back, she was surprised when she discovered the medical bay was in tatters and ruins.

Taking a moment to concentrate, she then responded to Sune's communication;

Code:
Sune-Shosa
Will those supplies include an entirely new Medical Bay? Because the one I'm looking at is a complete mess.

After sending it, she started to take inventory of the equipment that's still usable.

After talking to the technicians and given them the amended departure time and priority work items, Sune returned to the Eucharis, and to his cabin. While he changed into his a work uniform, he queued up three messages and sent them out via communicator.

Attention all hands:
We will be lifting ship in 5 hours 53 minutes. The KFY personnel are going to be working on priority items, namely the main power conduits, an upgrade to the MEGAMI, and our medical lab. Those staying behind to repair, coordinate your efforts through Nayacesen-Shoi.

Jalen-Shoi

Hakushi-Ittô Juni
The KFY technicians should be in to clean up the medical lab and replace the main equipment including the AMTC units. The shopping trip I am undertaking is to acquire armaments, and medical supplies for the lab. Medicines, drugs and supplies are at the top of the list.

Jalen-Shosa
Koga-Hei,
I appreciate your volunteering, meet me at the cargo ramp in 10 minutes in a work Uniform, and fully charged side arm.

Jalen-Shosa

Once he was changed, he picked up his Type 27 Nekovalkyrja Service Pistol he had acquired and added it to his belt as well as the standard Type 30. He then picked up his katana; strapped it on his side has he left the room. Then made his way to cargo ramp and the waiting Type 30 Cargo Truck

Hanako returned to the bridge and typed up a letter to the Chief Medical Officer:

Code:
To: Ittô Juni Hakujou Hakushi
From: Shôshô Ketsurui Hanako
Subject: Letter of Reprimand

Your recent behavior has been unacceptably deficient. You fell out of formation before being dismissed and you have failed to keep your medical lab in good condition. You have also been slow to act and essentially useless in the latest mission. I need to see some good behavior and work from you or you will be transferred off the ship.

For the above, I am withholding one month of pay (2657 KS) from you. A formal disciplinary hearing is available if you wish to challenge this, but be prepared to lose rank if you do,

Signed,
Hanako
After sending the letter, Hanako went down to the computer room to install the updated security features herself.

Upon receiving Sune's second message Akemi stopped in her tracks. She responded to it mimicking his format.
Code:
Jalen-Shosa,
Please think nothing of it sir. I am always eager to serve.

Koga-Ittô Hei
With her current attire acceptable and her gun at her side, the soldier continued down the ramp and waited at the bottom for Sune.
