"I think that it would be prudent to scan for booby traps and such before we open the door." Yoshiro said before scanning the door control. He then started to put the wires together to power the door somehow and ready to open it when it was safe. "It wouldn't do to hotwire the door only to get killed by a booby trap that the enemy set up for us."

From beyond the door, the muffled sound of energy weapons could be heard. Along with the sound of something heavy walking. Every so often the weapon fire was punctuated by the sound of screaming.

"Oh, let me blow it up. No door, no booby trap and one entry way for us. Fast and simple. Anything inside gets stunned," Takamori said, reaching for a charge. In his mind, it was a lot faster and safer since they seemed to be concerned with the danger of traps.

An explosive breach would eliminate most simple traps. And people were dying beyond the door. Sometimes, swiftly administered blunt force was the order of the day. To Takamori, now was the time to administer it.

"Not anything, Takamori-Hei. But I don't care how this gets done, you bunch just need to get this door open... And if you blow it off its hinges, don't use too much of our explosives," Arkase said.

Whether they opened it or blew it up made no matter. Their enemy would know they had arrived.

Yoshiro finished hotwiring the door. "There, that should do it. I am going to hit the button and hopefully the door will open." He said and hit the button, hoping that the door would open. I just hope that we are ready for whatever is on the other side. Yoshiro thought to himself.

There was a moment after Yoshiro pushed the button where nothing happened. Then the iris value spun and opened silently. The atmospheric shields for the hatch were non-functional so some of the native atmosphere leeched into the room.

In front of the away team a Ripper stood before a scene of carnage. From its communications system a loud voice spoke, it was transmitted across the base comm channels. "Cease this senseless resistance. Surrender and swear allegiance to the NMX and you will be spared." it said its voice echoing in the large area.

A group of NMX neko's made their way into carnage and began dragging the bodies, some of which were still living away.

Forward, you dogs of war. Show them your steel-fanged bite! Show the foe your blood iron resolve! Let the sword-song ring and the axe-fall resound!

Takamori activated his right forearm aether blade. No, reality was not like the clean theatrics he had performed and studied. The two ought to have nothing to do with each other. But deeds of valour on the battlefield were celebrated, which in turn inspired more generations of young warriors. Such aspirations to equal the deeds of heroes long past, real and fictional, that was the junction at which reality and fiction met.

The NMX Ripper had not noticed the Yamataian squad yet, doubtless it would very soon. In his left arm, Takamori activated the shield. Playing the hero was never a role he liked. He considered himself a minor background character, both in life and on stage. But sometimes, a minor character needed to act boldly before the major characters took action. And sometimes, he made too many theatrical references to reality.

Takamori boosted towards the Ripper using his thrusters, stabbing the machine's abdomen once. He bashed it away with his shield before stabbing the Ripper again.

Kyoka braced herself for whatever lay beyond the door, but obviously wasn't prepared enough. Before she could even begin to react, Takamori had led the charge, going in with. . . melee?

"Wha-Takamori-Hei, what are you doing?!" She stammered, finally reacting after a moment had passed. "Melee is reserved for-"

The Neko cut herself off and took aim, firing straight at the Ripper's head.

"Arai-hei, cover Takamori so he doesn't get flanked!" She ordered as she continued to pour the energy into the Mishu PA.

"Dammit -- Takamori-hei!" Arkase jumped in to back Takamori up, activating his Aether Beam-Saber and unleashing a volley of fire at the Nekovalkyrja just beyond the Ripper. With the Hei in the way he couldn't get a shot at the Ripper, but the Nekovalkyrja were fair game. With AIES assisting, he'd bet his team had the drop on them.

He activated his loudspeakers: "I humbly request you surrender."

He fired a shot from his aerther rifle at a NMX Neko that was the closest to him as he followed Oshiro-juni. What the hell is Takamori thinking? He is gonna get himself hurt or worse! Yoshiro thought to himself as he watched Takamori for an instant and then targeted the other NMX Nekos near him with his aether beam rifle as he watched and covered Oshiro-Juni.

As for surrender, nuts to that! I would rather die a thousand times before that! He thought to himself. His nerves were wound tighter than a knot in a shoelace but he did not let that affect him. Yoshiro knew that if he got distracted, even for an instant he would be hurt or worse, let his team down. Remembering his graduation excercise and his utter and epic failure he steeled himself for the battle ahead.

As Saito streaked towards the Ripper, the enemy twisted at the last moment. It wasn't quick enough to completely avoid Takamori's blade, but instead of impaling the Ripper he aether blade cut a deep slash on its left side.

Kyoka's head shot was turned into a grazing hit by the same defensive movement. But the Ripper did feel it as one of its horn like antenna was destroyed.

The Ripper brought up its right arm in a defensive posture protecting its head from further shots. Meanwhile it swatted at Saito with its left sending him careening into a column.

Its shoulder cannon swiveled and returned fire at Kyoka, hitting her squarely, her shields stopped most of the first volley but some still scored her chest plate.

With the heavy gunfire the khaki clad Nekos dove for the ground. Arkase's AIES targeting a number of them were hit with his volley.

Yoshiro's shot dropped the NMX Neko as the aehter bolt burned right through the torso of the Neko.

On the bad side, Saito just took a beating and she wasn't doing so hot herself. On the bright side, her teammate was out of the way completely. Which meant-

No holding back! Kyoka noted gleefully, activating her Barrier module and resuming point position in the party. The Neko quickly launched a volley of five missiles at the Ripper, and if it wasn't enough, then another five was launched while attempting to sustain continual fire from her rifle at the mecha.

What low flying jet hit me? Takamori wondered groggily.

He realized he was on all fours, staring at the floor with his aether blade still active.

Takamori rose uncertainly, his limbs still numb from the impact. A myriad of warning messages on his HUD were ignored as he tried to get himself re-oriented.

The Ripper was still up. So he had failed. Takamori brought his right arm up, changing the blade to the aether pulse setting. His aim was off, shaking a little despite his efforts to keep it stable.

To compensate, Takamori leaned against the wall he had crashed into. When he was fairly sure he wasn't going to be blasting his own squad mates, Takamori let off a long burst of aether.

The Ripper returned fire at Kyoka as both Kyoka and Takamori hammered it with their weapons. The Ripper stubbornly refused to fall over and stomped its way towards Takamori. It brought its free arm down to aim at the soldier who was injuring it. Its forearm weapon began to glow with menace, when the Ripper proceeded to topple forward landing on top of Takamori.

Yoshiro saw what the ripper was about to do and formulated a plan. He had to do this quickly and cleanly or otherwise Takamori was in for a world of hurt. He activated his aether blade and ran toward the ripper. He jumped on top as it fell on Takamori. He fired two shots at its head to either kill it or get its attention. "Takamori-hei, if you are okay say something!" He shouted over the laser comms.

Saki was in the back. She could not fire because of risk of friendly fire so she held her beam rifle at the ready waiting for any opportunity. She moved to neares possible cover and started targeting ripper. She still had her rifle on beam setting and was ready to strike as soon as she get chance. She expected Ripper to charge them, it made sense in her head for him to do so. He was big and bulky and had that nasty blade. But Saki was ready for it.

The Ripper shuddered a few times, and then grew still. Smoke pouring out a several holes in the armor.

The surviving NMX Nekos furtively looked around. Waiting to see if they were going to be fired upon again. "Don't Shoot We Surrender" a purple haired neko screamed.

"Arkase-Juni, what do we do with them?" Kyoka asked, aiming at the Nekos. It looked like the Ripper was done for, and Yoshiro could help Takamori with his problem. "Are we on a prisoner taking basis?

Takamori groaned as he pushed the dead Ripper off him. "I'm never doing that again..." he muttered, wondering how many more seconds he would have to get a hold of himself before the Juni went at him.

"Arai-hei, can you help me to move this thing off of Takamori-hei?" He said as he started to move the Ripper power armor off of Takamori. He eyed the NMX Nekos warily. They suddenly surrendered so he suspected something. He was more worried about Arai's response to the NMX Nekos that were there. "Arai-hei, are you ok?" He said wondering what her response to the situation would be.
