Re: YSS Moirai OOC channel
((On a whim, i made a version of last night's JP that has Akira's parts broken out at the end, as he was elsewhere (compared to the other three characters involved). If this looks good to you folks, we might replace the one we have up; i think it looks 'cleaner' ^_^;...))
Galar studied the sensor readout. Apparently, their escort had not yet arrived. They were early, so that may have made a difference. Since they had some free time before the escort arrived, Galar decided to ask the crew over telepathy, and to Strelgar over the EIES, "Everyone, have you heard about the newest shift in politics? It's something everyone should know about. The 5XF and the Moyotoshi family have split off from central Yamatai and have formed the UOC, the United Outer Colonies consisting of Jiyuu and nearby planets. My previous crewmates are now part of that new nation, and I think you should know about an event of this magnitude."
Renko stayed bowing at the captain’s right hand. "I was unaware of this development. I shall take this under consideration. Thank you, sir!"
Isuzu didn't respond to immediately Galar's telepathic message, as she was too busy devouring every news feed she could she could connect to. Several of the 'official' channels were blocked or bogged down with excess traffic, and those were the ones she had to see; she needed to know if Yamatai had started shooting yet. With an intense stare, the tiny Neko turned to her captain. "How many casualties?" she asked grimly; perhaps Galar would know.
Galar responded in the same fashion as before, "The government of central Yamatai has surprisingly forged a treaty of sorts with the newly formed UOC. The empress has decided that the wonton killing of whole factions is immoral and deeply regret the slaughter of the Freespacers. They do not wish to have a repeat incident." Cutting the link to Strelgar, Galar added over a purely telepathic stream, No doubt, the bonus is the UOC is very weak in comparison to Yamatai, so their public reasons could be completely a farce.
Renko quirked an eyebrow, still remaining bowing, still awaiting new orders.
*I see.* Isuzu responded guardedly. In reality, she didn't see at all. The Empress' 'regrets' aside, Yamatai had gone to war for far smaller things than this in the past, and the Empress did not command the military- or not all of it, anyway. *The 5th?* she queried directly to the captain. If the entire fleet didn't collectively decide to defect as one, there could be infighting.
Galar responded, including Strelgar in the conversation once more, "Nearly the entire fleet went. However, they had to return all property of the Empire. And I think I should tell you that the Empress is once again a Ketsurui. Luckily, there has been no wholesale slaughter, no infighting. Actually the whole thing came off rather cleanly. It is very interesting. The new UOC does not even have a military as we know it. It is a peacekeeping force dedicated to its title. The UOC seems like a very peaceful place to me."
Isuzu peered at Galar for a second longer, before finally allowing herself to relax- slightly. She'd seen in the records that Galar had just come to the Third XF from the Fifth XF, so he probably did indeed have comrades over there that had just defected. That made it less likely that he would sugar-coat the outcome for them.
Still, this 'shift' as he put it left her in a very unpleasant position. *Sir, permission to speak freely?* she asked privately.
Galar responded, Permission granted Isuzu-Hei.
*Jiyuu is my home, sir,* Isuzu stated simply. She didn't elaborate, but she did not believe she needed to; the hard, wary expression on her face said that she was still waiting for the other shoe to drop.
Galar knew there was more to Isuzu than she was telling, but he let it slide for the moment. He turned to Renko, who was simply standing next to him. "Ah, orders. I want you to relax until we are within striking distance of the first SS pod. Hopefully, I'll never need to order you around at all except for retrieval of the pods."
"Sir!" Renko stood up and fell into 'at ease' stance next to Galar, watching the view screens and awaiting a useful project.
Seeing as the Nepleslians still hadn't shown up (and might be quite late, if they decided to secure their borders to ride out the coming storm), Isuzu returned her attention to her news feeds. Thus far, it seemed to be just as Galar had said; there was some strife and many angry words, but it didn't appear that Yamatai had launched an all-out offensive on their break-away fleet... yet.
Gripping the head of her chair, Isuzu turned it so it was facing away from the bow, then slid down into the seat, out of view just in case Nepleslia hailed them. Opening the plastic bag that held her breakfast, the little Neko took a distracted bite of her steak as she played a video of the returning 5th XF ships crossing the border.

Over telepathy, Akira recieved a message from the captain. Everyone, have you heard about the newest shift in politics? It's something everyone should know about. The 5XF and the Moyotoshi family have split off from central Yamatai and have formed the UOC, the United Outer Colonies consisting of Jiyuu and nearby planets. My previous crewmates are now part of that new nation, and I think you should know about an event of this magnitude.
Akira paused momentarily on his holographic practice section, considering the news. Thank you for the heads up, sir. How is the government reacting? The telepathic response was a little off'; Akira was focused on what he was doing.
Galar responded in the same fashion as before, The government of central Yamatai has surprisingly forged a treaty of sorts with the newly formed UOC. The empress has decided that the wonton killing of whole factions is immoral and deeply regret the slaughter of the Freespacers. They do not wish to have a repeat incident. No doubt, the bonus is the UOC is very weak in comparison to Yamatai, so their public reasons could be completely a farce.
Akira started back in on his work. He kept an open mind as he looked at the hologram. Yamatai was easily the strongest nation in the galaxy. Why let an entire fleet go unharmed like that?
Nearly the entire fleet went, Galar continued. The UOC seems like a very peaceful place to me.
Akira continued his work. That would explain the lack of retaliation. However, as sometimes happens, he chose the wrong wire, and the hologram blew up in his face. "Damn it," Akira grumped, and restarted the scenario. "Damn old explosive devices..."
