Osaka's doodling

OsakanOne here. The better stuff of my journey to artistic enlightenment ends up here. At this point, it's mostly just experimentation...

Re: Osaka's nonsense: Now with 3D Sculpting!

Starting to really take shape now.

Wasn't happy with my sketches so I'm exploring lots of different options for doing this.

Feels less "direct" than modeling a blocky mecha. Subtlety is required and it's damn difficult. Might "elaborate" with plating over the top of the muscle and "paint" the muscle black, like Idolo. I love ZoE.

Looks kinda guppy.

Need to fix this.

Re: Osaka's nonsense: Now with 3D Sculpting!

Brushing up on "classic" polygonal modelling without sculpting aids.

It's actually a lot harder than I expected but gives me a basis for ongoing correction in existing projects and a feel for proportion should I decide to remodel a given object.

I paid a lot more attention to the side-view than I did the front view, hence it looks "kind of bulky but kind of not".

For those interested: this is not Ao/Aurora.

Re: Osaka's nonsense: Now with 3D Sculpting!

Some of you might recognize this as a looser version of that mockup I produced irl and took photos off. It's basic but from here, I'm going to start studying real mechanical joints in things like aircraft and vehicles and robots and build up a reppetoir of bits I can just dunk into if I need them...

...A bit like DOGA, really.

But I think I'm going as far as the basics will take me for mechanical detailing.

I'm going to start getting into patch modeling now, so I can start doing things like body-panels and dynamic distinct surfaces without the problems I keep running into that seem to get in the way.

Wish me luck. :)

Re: Osaka's nonsense: Now with 3D Sculpting!

Working out how this thing is going "fit together". The legs of the pilot need moving and the cockpit controls need adding, so I can add points of note (thrusters, etc) then I do the panel-work for the body and adjust it accordingly.

The result should look... Fairly Gundam-like, I'm thinking.

But I do want to experiment with the proportions for a bit, go for something like the chunky shooter I posted earlier.
