Re: [restart point] Mission 2

Yukari looked at Tom, her lips hinting at a sad frown. She had confidence in Tom's abilities to fight; she had seen them in the first power armor simulation. But Kotori was being fair; she could not argue against that.

I should consider what to cook for dinner while there is time, she thought, ticking through recipes in her head.

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

As Serizawa's hands started to scrape at the bottom of Sora's luggage, he agreed, "So it would seem."

One of the last things he pulled out was what appeared to him to be a book. Without putting a second thought into it, he opened the book and began to flip through the pages but he frowned when he saw all the pages were blank. Just before he closed it, he noticed a small amount of writing on the very first page. It only took him a moment to read the note.

He looked over at Sora and asked, "What is this? Are you planning to write a novel?"

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

Sora watched Serizawa's frown and sat down on the floor beside him, placing her hands neatly into her lap.

"It was a present from Sumaru a couple days after being on the Elfin Princess. I said something in conversation to him while I was working on adapting a play before we lost.. the Plumeria that touched him in some way and he somehow made me a book to write in. I do keep a journal but I typically use a data pad, so I generally work through adaptations through a physical book to make it easier to reference ideas across. I haven't really gotten a chance to start but I think it'll be a long time before I can help put on a play again," she paused for a moment as her voice seemed to be full of regret at the last statement, "but I'm going to try to work towards getting those projects done for when I can do them."

She smiled softly with a wistful look in her eyes when she looked at Serizawa's eyes. "I'd like to create my own story some day, after all, I have my own Prince to inspire me. You've run out into the thick of battle on your shiny steed so many times and managed to save the damsel in distress. I heard you tried to do brain surgery on Kess despite the evac order before getting her into the escape pod and hopping into a Mindy." She beamed at him proudly, "For a scientist, I'd say you've had a very successful career as a medic and as a knight."

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

Seeing as everyone else went along merrily to frolic with one another, Sanjuro was, not surprisingly, the first one to reach the the recreation room. Finding himself precariously punctual yet again as he scanned the empty room, the tall Yamataian buried his poker-faced mug back into the comforting folds of his datapad as he slinked his way to one of the nearby seats.

When he finally finished one of his data articles about proper use of stealth systems, Sanjuro cast a wayward glance towards the direction of the simulation chamber. The longer his eyes lingered on the chamber, the more pronounced his grimace grew. Sanjuro could only hope that, somehow, by some miraculous divine intervention, he had become an expert in armored combat during his sleep...because if not, he certainly hadn't gotten any better from the last time he was in one of these simulations.

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

"Yu-re-il." Asher repeated, playing it slowly. "Hrm, Yuril, sorry about that, I'm pretty bad with names. I swear, I could never say Sazuka-... Erm..."

Asher coughed into his fist as he tensed and looked around for a moment.

"Suzuka, correctly." He finished, assuming his more relaxed posture again. "But I believe we were about to check you guys into your rooms, right?"

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

The neko smiled slightly, a little bit amused at Asher's inability to pronounce names correctly, but she wouldn't say that aloud. Not in his face at least.

"Pay it no mind, it doesn't bother me. But, ah, yes I was going to go to my room I suppose... Although I don't have anything to really unpack."

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

Tom nodded at the order.

"Very well then, ma'am. I shall begin preparations immediately."

He bowed deeply to Kotori, then bowed slightly less deeply to Yukari, before smirking.

"I wouldn't mind seeing the new crew in power armors myself, actually. I'd like to see how chemistry has improved among the older staff as well. I'm sure we've all learned something from our previous experiences."

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

"The same goes for me," Kotori agreed. "We're rehashing the battle with the Meng Po, but with us being the defenders and them being the attackers," she then confided to them both as well. "This simulation is not only for practicing combat and team tactics against Mindy-suited nekovalkyrja, but also to preparation for how to deal with invaders in our own ship. It might be harder than any situation we've confronted so far, but it could happen - hence why I feel we must train to be ready for it."

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

Yukari nodded, her thoughts hurled from good recipes to good armor tactics. Which she did not know, and would not be able to utilize anyway, as she was not in charge of armor tactics.

"Mindy 1Fs and 1Hs? Or 2As?" she asked Kotori.

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

"We use our current armor complement and resources," Kotori answered. "They use their Black Mindy power armors: their upgrade from the 1E variant with the extra spiked armor and the double-teleportation unit."

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

"Thank you, Taisa." LASRs are of no use then. We are limited to plasma weapons or aether weapons. Already the prospects of small corridors, rooms and having to fight in a power armor instead of behind a pilot console were setting off Yukari's unease.

... It is not my place to decide strategy. My place is to fight. Somehow. She did not look forward to it, but then, she reasoned she was not supposed to. She tried to calm her own head as her eyes went to Tom.

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

Miyoko reached the recreation room shortly after Sanjuro, having given up on eavesdropping rather quickly. Upon arriving, she gave the medical officer a listful nod and started halfheartedly leafing through one of the bookshelves outside of the simulator. Normally, having so many books at her disposal would have her leaping with joy, but she just couldn't ignore her impending simulated doom.

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

"I will get ready for the simulated scenario. Make sure that everyone assembles in the two virtual reality rooms in a few minutes - we dispose of 14 power armors, so everyone plus the some sprites will be able to participate." Kotori nodded to the couple and then walked out of the sensor dome.

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

Yukari bowed to Kotori as she walked off, then looked to Tom. "I should have asked her at the beginning. I am sorry if I gave you false hope, Juni."

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

"Good! Which room are we hitting up first?" Asher asked, intending to make it a group venture.

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

"The key word being 'tried'," responded Serizawa modestly. "That kind of trauma is still beyond my ability to treat, especially in that kind of scenario."

He looked Sora up and down, scratching the crown of his head thoughtfully before he added, "But I suppose I've come a long way since I've joined the military and, more importantly, since I've met you. If you could tell me two years ago that I'd be on a dying ship shoving wounded into escape pods and while improvising my own escape, I'd probably laugh the notion off. The only adventures I could foresee for myself were ones contained in a laboratory. Now, I'm on the front lines of a war while my peers are busy working on making breakthroughs."

Glancing about for a moment, Serizawa cleared his throat after he considered his last statement.

"Not that I'm bitter," he clarified after a brief pause. "Really, I'm disappointed in Yamataian society. Why it is needed for us to be engaged deadly war like this to create the push for scientific advancement is beyond me. I understand the need for new defenses to combat the enemy but if we were always seeking new technologies this diligently, we'd be adequately prepared for any enemy."

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

As Nyton and Masako walked together towards the simulation room they were discussing the division of the personnel into different squads. The discussion with Kotori and their slow pace had made them arrive after Sanjuro and Miyoko.

"With all the personnel available I'm thinking a four squad layout. Two fire teams, a tactical and support team, and one auxiliary team. The two attack squads would move out to seek and destroy while supporting each other. The auxiliaries will move to support a team in trouble if both teams are individually engaged. We could put most of our medical personnel in support and have one with the reserve team should they have to assist with casualty stabilization. Then they can clear casualties to the support team who secures them. What do you think?" Nyton put forth to Masako while they entered the simulation room.

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

Tom shook his head with a grin.

"Oh, don't worry about it, ma'am. At least I got the time necessary to get to work. Although, considering the situation of the simulation, given that I'm in a Daisy, and probably engaging a Mindy, I don't expect a high survival rate for the poor engineer."

He sighed.

"Worst case scenarios are good to prepare for, but they're unsettling to think about. Still, it gives me an opportunity to defend the ship and crew, which I'll do to my full capabilities. Although, if this is a simulation based on our previous encounter, we're going to be surprised and have very little time to react. I hope our tactical officers are up for it, because this is foreign territory for me!"

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

"I think it's more the fact that we are in this war as a result of trying to over stretch our scientific research in the field of genetic engineering. But with war there is an active need for stronger weapons in peace time, it just gives the enemy time to rise and counter. It's never-ending, but I can't complain too much, if it wasn't for war... I wouldn't exist nor would any nekovalkyrja." Sora replied thoughtfully, leaning over and kissing Serizawa gently on the lips before rising to her feet again. She adjusted her skirt back down over her hips again. "But, we'd better go to our scientific war study before we're late, Ichi-kun."

Re: [restart point] Mission 2

"Indeed we should," Serizawa agreed.

He followed Sora's lead and stood up. While she straightened out her skirt, he made his way to the door and waited for the shapely woman.

"After you," he spoke while making a gesturing motion at the door.
