Okay everyone. As an artist, I have to ask... Does anyone else just absolutely adore prismacolor?! :D They kick ass! I've been using them for about three years and I've never gone wrong with them! (They're just a tad bit expensive, meh...) (This thread is for general talking about art techniques!)
Okay. Now that I've set upon Deoradh ships, time for the people! I've been drawing tons of tech lately, but no (good looking) people. So I decided to alleviate that problem. If she seems a bit familiar, you may remember [her predecessor]. One of my first drawings when I was still just learning photoshop and how to work a stylus pad, so low quality compared to what I can do now. Requesting critique and advice. Not just on their appearance, but my drawing style. Anything out of proportion, or looks particularly bad? Yes, I know its a bit punkish and slightly Gothic. This 'badass' character was supposed to contrast a second more 'good' character I was drawing, but at my current CG rate I won't be finished the second any time soon. Hence...
So I borrowed a Tablet from a friend of mine and I’ve had quite a bit of fun messing around with it, here’s what I’ve got so far. I took a sketch of my character and cleaned up the lines, added colour and even messed around with some shading. I don’t really like how her hair turned out and at the moment I don’t know just how to fix it, it’s supposed to be more Black… Anyway, I’m already thinking of a full body image of her in a more “action pose” (probably with a ludicrously large rifle in hand)
Moi Freespacer; Old, (slightly) relevant stuff; "Modern" Mecha concept. Soldier in full body armour. Another Mecha concept. More direct results of my weebo-ish tendancies. More direct results of just not possessing a single brain cell. Hope you had a pleasant trip.

If you've seen a good commissions deal, or have an artist to recommend (including yourself) please post some information and a link in this thread. For starters, we have the List of Recommended Artists Here's an example of what types of stuff to post: - - - I found a skilled artist today with low prices: $10-$15 color for a character artwork: http://rosketch.deviantart.com/art/Rosk ... -363449502 Edit: Found another: $12 Full body http://szaris.deviantart.com/art/Commis ... -363133722 Edit2: $5 Chibis http://miacis83.deviantart.com/journal/ ... -333274242
hi hi It's been a little while, but I had an idea for another little vignette from the melancholy life of Komatsu Elena. This time in mini-comic format. Komatsu is a private investigator now, a step up from hard labor to be sure, but still not quite the same as piloting a starship. I'm still getting used to using Clipstudio instead of Photoshop. I'm starting to get the hang of brushes again, but getting a good variable line width continues to be difficult.
These have been approved by Zakalwe as accurate art that can be used with the Equine and Forin applications, so that's two less that have to be drawn. The grill is for easy access repair and maintenance, while the "headlights" are actually sensors and/or parts of the deflector array. The Equine has a slight 70s semi-truck feel to it, but not so much so to cease making it look like a spaceship. Equine: Forin
Once I watched the world, in stark contrast I saw it in Black and White, with no morass Pure, powerful, Eternal and separated Always, was I told, the two are never integrated Once I watched the world, alone on the hill Shadows to find, time to kill Something came, causing great vex I tried to ward it away, with a quick hex A little gremlin, rotten and old His eyes shimmered of fire and gold He sat down upon my knee And he sang to me of what I would see He sang me of the darkest black He sang me how he could not hold it back He sang me there, for me to find I took it all, left none behind I took my darkness, and more desired Soon into the darkness I retired The light, you see, it hurt my head To the living, I believe, I was dead I...
Here we go. This is the page in the wiki that lists both the people on the site who are (more or less) available to help out with any DOGA/other 3D rendering needed, and pages which have already requested art of some sort. You can contact any of the artists on the list specifically to inquire about getting something done for your submission, or you can add it to the list at the bottom of the page and wait and see if anyone volunteers. If you are a DOGA/3d modeling handy person, and are willing to help people out, feel free to add yourself to the list of artists. Edit: This is intended to be stickied in here, not actually up for approval.
Let's have a contest for drawing your characters in costume! Post here to enter, and then on October 28th, I'll create a poll and the site members will get to vote on the winner, which will be announced on October 31st (Halloween). I'll give the winner a special forum banner and choice of: 3-month CORE membership on DeviantArt or the equivalent in cash ($15) on PayPal, or Paid slot in Zairyo's commission list Edit: For contest purposes, the artwork submitted has to be your own work.
Hello SARP! As promised at the Star Army meeting on November 16, 2016, I'm opening a general character art request thread in which Star Army gifts character art to its members. The purpose of this thread is to handle non-Zairyo art requests for the 2016 Holiday season. In this thread, you can request artwork for your characters or for other people's characters. Eligibility: Art is available for characters who: Are currently in an active RP Have been in the RP for at least a month Plan to continue for a long time (not giving art to people about to leave, etc) Actually need artwork no artwork only have really old artwork only have low-quality artwork Preferably have art that can be used in some secondary purpose on other wiki pages...
I don't usually share the details, but I'm particularly proud of our group's recent release. If you like Undertale, it'll be up your alley. XD Best experienced with headphones and the volume CRANKED UP, especially starting at 1:02. I'm in the chorus (the high voice in your left headphone).
http://www.myspace.com/lyzation Should begin playing automatically - this is me and my partner-in-rhyme Lyzation together on a track produced by Pittsburgh producer INFO (produced tracks for Dipset, etc.). Just launched this as a radio single regionally and hopefully, if our connect comes through, it'll be getting play in all six national markets. If we're really lucky, the track'll blow up enough that we'll actually get a music video for it. But anyway, here's a chance to check out the not so nerdy things I do. Lyzation raps first, I rap second.
I had a gun concept a long while ago; this is the heavily revised version. http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/9876/minigausshf6.png The MiniGauss uses a variety of different ferrous slugs ranging from nickel to depleted uranium, and includes a spare magazine, lanyard for magazine, two spare batteries, and a double-slot charger. (STEALTH EDIT: I turned your image into a url, as Wes wants images that stretch the forum's width to be treated that way. Sorry 'bout that. -- Doshii)
Hi :) Well, I'm new to this place, but I was recommended by a friend who said I may be able to get a few commissions. I'm an artist experienced in realistic 3D and digitally painted images, and I have good prices for my work. I mostly work in fantasy or mediaeval styles, however I'm open to all styles of artwork, including more sci-fi looks. I can also do more cartoon/anime looking work. I also have a Christmas sale on, where you can get 50% off all commissions! So this is an excellent time to get in. Here's my commission page, where you can view samples of my work, prices, and how to order: Eternity Dreams Commisssions I also have a DeviantART page: Ilenora at DeviantART And you can also go straight to the Natures Wonderland shop to...
I've pretty much forgotten that I have a deviantArt profile until I decided to get some commissioned art from Zairyo. It was just sitting there, all barren and stuff, so I decided to start posting my DoGA images on my profile. And what do you know, one of my designs has already been placed as someone's favorite. I find it giving me a warm and fuzzy feeling inside, so I'm posting my deviantArt profile up here and joining the Member's Art thread of regular posters. http://lionheart86va.deviantart.com/ And what was the favored picture? My Battlecruiser design for the Abwehrans, apparently. Front View Rear View Side View Don't be afraid to comment.
.... Shouldn't we have a sticky page with details about active artists here, or something like that? I've been thinking of getting a commission just to piss of Fi - I mean, because I believe it would contribute to the site a bit, but I've had a hard time asking. Anybody?
Recently added a profile pic for my Nepleslian marine: https://wiki.stararmy.com/doku.php?id=ch ... dra_volkov Not that I claim to be an amazing artist in the slightest, but I do find an it enjoyable hobby and I'm constantly improving. I also have some photos I've taken and some stories I've written on it too. So feel free to check out my art site: http://cyborgakadjmoose.deviantart.com/
Sometime ago, I was putting some rather deep contemplation on overhauling the Miharu. When I went on hiatus from SARP, that's not something I stopped doing, though the impetus for it was lesser. Basically, I did not want my work to go to waste, but there was less drive to get it done. In a way, I'm much better at thinking this stuff up than actually making it, I guess! Well, I had a bit of a breakthrough with my modelling software more recently, and things finally came out the way I wanted. At first, I made sketches on paper and I was trying to draw out precise bezier curves in my 3d software so I could adhere to 'my plans' and try to have things as good as I wished them... but that never quite panned out: the transition from 2d to 3d...
Hi guys, This is Dak, aka Richard. I am working on building an app to render a photo into an artistically styled portrait. Basically you take a photo of a person, it uploads to our central server and then shoots back the finished image to you. I am asking here because I believe this community would actually have a use for my work and this project is important to me - I'd like to share it with you all. Example: Would any of you use this? If so, what for? Would you use it for forums? Avatars? Would you set it as your social media representative? What would you want to customize? Clothing? Colors? Would you want to make portraits of yourselves in your favorite manga artists style? Right now we are developing this...
A while back I posted the old Star Army forum headers and banners. Today I'm showing the old avatars. Back in the day, when we used phpBB2 (2004-2007), the board had an "Avatar gallery" with a list of avatars users could choose from. Most people just uploaded their own, but that didn't stop me from having some options available in the gallery. When the forum software was upgraded, the avatar gallery went away, but I still have the files (I'm kind of a Star Army packrat, and I try to save everything from the site's history). So here they are:
A Separa's various misadventures within their SAOY career. ovvo! They do like their warm places, don't they? Ft. Pancakei's Anastasia Barlow. Yikes... Ft. Jabonicus' Traumapatcher Care Seven Six ----- But yeah, i'll be making more of these little 4koma's from time to time, just for funsies. Hope y'all like it. ovvo/
Okay, I was eating dinner in the cafeteria, minding my own business, when DDR trance music just started pumping into my head. Either my muse is getting rather aggressive, or I need to see a psychiatrist. :( Anyway, I figured that jotting down the lyrics would make the noise go away. And it did. :) *reads lyrics* Hmm. If this whole computer science thing doesn't work out, I can always be a propagandist. :) Fight for Yamatai! (sang by a Nekovalkyrja to trance music) Look up to the sky, I will tell you why: Up there is the legendary Land of samurai! Dashing and daring, Strong and none-fearing, The immortal defenders, And crusaders of Yamatai! Our enemies are ever approaching, Their power is overwhelming, But we...
These are screenshots of a 3-D Yggdrasill made in GameStudio A5's WED. Not the newest program out there, as it can run on a P-II, but it's fun to play with. These are in PNG format, and combined the pictures are less than 500K. Note: SRSS-000 may not be the final designation number of the Yggdrasill.
http://chirb.it/Enn2zn Some of you might have heard snippets of it on IRC yesterday, but here's the full deal. Episode 1 of the Calgary Jones Show. There are still outtakes I haven't uploaded, as well as a cut commercial for 'Nepleslian Cheese'. Let me know if you like/dislike this or if you're interested in participating in future episodes of the show. I had a lot of fun making this, and I think you guys would really enjoy it, too!
On Friday Night, I rolled up my sleeves and made a pair of levels for Doom II. Download them here on this DropBox link. My next map, I'm thinking, will be a more city environment/urban, like Funky City as opposed to the little village I have going in MAP02. Technical Notes: These two maps will run on GZDoom only, because I made the map's metadata accept GZDoom only, so it uses features that vanilla Doom II will not have. Attempting to run this in vanilla Doom II will not work. Once you have GZDoom set up and the DOOM2 wad in the same directory, simply drag ChickenMapToGo.wad onto the GZDoom Icon and play! For more information on playing Doom, as well as some good community recommendations, consult this enormous image. DOUBLE...
Inspired by a separate discussion with @Ametheliana I have decided to create a thread for people to brainstorm, write, critique, and edit poems, short stories with the end-goal of injecting them into the setting as IC works. This setting has far too little literature and IC written works (read: None), and I think it would be cool to work together to create some stuff to flesh out the cultural side of SARP a bit more. The same goes for IC artwork, paintings, music, etc.
I am soldier of the Star Army, an expert in combat and exploration. I serve the people of Yamatai and will never betray the trust they have placed in me. I am a professional – I will maintain my mind, body, and equipment in constant readiness, and will follow my orders. I will take pride in my starship and work hard to it the Star Army's finest. No matter what, I will never give up, and I will always do the right thing.
As i am very much a Discord person, i don't frequent these places too often. So by Wes' recommendation i am posting this here as well now. Being a fan of the T33 NSP's design, and being the owner of a UP! 2Plus 3D printer, i set out to make a lifesize prop of the iconic SAoY sidearm! Step 1: 3D modeling. I have asked Wes before if he still had the 3D model available used in the NSP's concept render, but sadly this wasn't the case. So using the NSP's 3D art i completely modeled a new one. It took a fair bit of time, but it was worth it! Step 2: Printing. As anyone who has3D printed before can attest to, this part of the project was the most tedious. Long print times and little margin for error make it a pretty...
hi hi I got a random idea stuck in my head, and it wouldn't leave until I got it down on paper. As usual, this is just fan art. Members of the Tokyo Amateur Explorer's Club near an uninhabited planet. Foreground: A Midori EX-40 Custom Hime. Background: A civilian model Misha. I tried to blend the original ship model with the style of a sports car and a touch of the pontoon style that other ships have. It was a difficult but fun challenge to try to cram everything into the given space. Midori EX-40 Custom The Midori EX-40 is a custom modification of the Princess Class Yacht with a focus on exploration. Professional explorer Midori-sensei made a limited run of the customized ships, having chosen the ship for its low cost and...
Ahem... Bitter Seeds, by Some Random Emo (Me) All the divine essence of my life Has become bloodstained edges Tear-drenched pillows And withered petals Without you... Amazing incandescence... Perplexing shadiness... I fall victim to the curse and the plague that is you Incurable, unassailable, unquestionable passion Ignoble, inadmissible, uncomforting passion I fall victim to the curse and the plague that is love In you the aria of amity In you the dirge of discontent In you the glorious portrait of perfection In you the constraining delusion of delirium In you...the completion of this awkward chimera Every ounce of your spirit A rose blackened by the shadow of death I can feel your heart pounding within mine All the hatred, all...
I'm having some trouble cleaning up my sketches and I'd like to hear some of the techniques you guys like to use. Leutre says if I blur a sketch, I should see the line-art and how everything would come together but I'm just not seeing it. Leu, could you post an example of this? I'd also really like some tips for mixing realistic skin-colors and techniques for shading that create realistic looking materials (for example, latex, leather, wool and metal are four I'm having trouble with). I'd also really like to learn how I can achieve a really polished look to my work. Here's what my stuff's like at the moment (oldest to newest, top to bottom) NSFW - Not Safe For Work (or any environments like that, eg school) Miriaria...
